Volume 58, No. 26 12 January 2017 Meets Thursdays 6pm for 6.30pm at the Foundry Hotel
High St, Golden Square.
“Rotary Serving Humanity”
President’s Report.
Once again we commenced our year with a social gathering held at our home at 121 Allies Road.
We had 37 in attendance consisting of members and many partners. Also we welcomed John and
Debbie Bergbauer along as our special guests. John is a former Bendigonian who will soon move
back to Bendigo from Melbourne and has been a member of the rotary club of Keilor East for about
25 years. We hope to see both John and Debbie at a regular club meeting in the near future and
perhaps becoming new members of our club.
This Thursday we return to the Foundry complex for the first time in 2017 to resume our regular
activities. There will be several barbecues leading into the new- year starting with the Australia Day
event. We will be welcoming our Phillipino visitors at the end of February and we look forward to
this interaction. Also the Rotary Club of Bendigo has secured a Royce Abbey Scholarship for a
lady from Samoa. It is possible we may provide some assistance in a small way helping to find the
study areas Norma needs to pursue. Sustainable organic farming and free range poultry
management seems to be the two main areas of focus. If anyone has any contacts in these areas
please let me know.
At some stage we will present some money to the Orthopaedics Auxiliary, hopefully to coincide
soon after with the fanfare that will take place with the opening of the new hospital. Also I do hope
to follow up soon with Annie North to see where the building project is at and perhaps as to how we
can renew our active involvement.
On the youth side of things we say welcome home to our outgoing student in Emmaby Barton Grace
from her recent exchange in Denmark. At some stage we will have Emmaby along to tell us about
her exciting year. Toshi has moved to Geoff and Irene Mc Kinna’s so if you need to seek him out
this is where to look. Also during May we will hear from all our scholarship recipients and this is
always a great night. Also I hope to introduce a new youth/International project to the club where
we will support the educational pursuits for a young person from Timor Leste. I did hear a rumour
(via Ken Hubbard) that Jim Rinaldi has put his hand up again and is off to Maubisse to in-service
teachers in how to conduct Art lessons. Personally I am pleased to see that our involvement with
the local Bendigo Maubisse Group has been renewed and that members are taking an interest in the
ways they can get actively involved.
This week I will be front and centre for our meeting and am looking forward to welcoming Jamie
Roberts as our guest presenter. Then I will be off to Christchurch for the following week for The

Rotary World Festival of Cricket. Also there is the possibility of another Ashes Tour to Scotland
and England from June 22 so plans for the changeover are now under consideration with Thursday
June 15 being a real possibility. As we all know it will not take long for the time to fly by.
