Over 200 students participated along with 70 volunteer professionals and some 80 Everett Rotarians worked to put on the event. Student’s comments were uniformly positive.

Interact Vice President Amelia Kent, advisor Erin Sebby, Jeff Moore and Interact President Sunny Sidhu

The Youth Foundation Services Committee chaired by Jeff Moore and vice-chaired by Eric Anderson. In Rotary year 06-07, we participated in starting an Interact Club at Everett High. During 07-08, the Interact Club increased participation to 20 active members. Erin Sebby, a teacher at EHS, was again the Interact advisor. The students participated in a number of activities under the leadership of President Sunny Sidhu; Vice President Amelia Kent; Treasurer Magdalia Suarez; Secretary Alex Nielson. They cleaned up the EHS campus, participated in the Thanksgiving Food Drive, had a car wash fundraiser and worked at Christmas House. They helped with the Rotary Park clean-up and at year end they sponsored a fund raising dinner which resulted in $1,550 being donated to World Concerns. The check was presented at the Rotary District Conference held in Everett. A second initiative by this committee was laying the groundwork for a pilot program for Challenge Day to be held in the fall at Everett and Sequoia High Schools. Our Rotary Club will provide funding and member participation.

World Community Service

The World Community Service Committee was chaired by Ed Petersen and vice chaired by Kim Buike. Rotary International and our Everett Rotary Club, have as a major initiative, improving conditions worldwide particularly in third world countries. In 2007-2008 our club increased their committee budget by 50% to $15,000. The following highlights the work of this committee: $4,500 – International Children Outreach Network (ICON) Within the ICON framework, the Children Burn Foundation operated a burn clinic in

Ethiopia, under the direction of Norwegian Doctor Einar Erickson. This contribution funded indigenous nurse training to assist Dr. Erickson’s important work. Dr. Erickson visited Everett and provided this committee a personal update on his work.

$6,500 – AGROS International AGROS is based in Seattle. Their mission includes improving conditions in Central

America. Our funds were used in Nicaragua. We helped develop a water project and bought plants and seeds for agricultural purposes. This 10 year project is designed to help local Nicaraguans become self sustaining farmers.

$2,500 - Ankara Gulhane Hospital medical equipment. This matching grant was a collaboration with the Ankara Kavaklidene Rotary Club and leveraged a total of $13,800.

$1,000 – Koutiala Hospital Breast Pump Project

This health ministry in Mali, West Africa provides pre and post natal services to local families. Our donation helped acquire a high quality breast pump. In June we enjoyed a program wherein representatives provided us a first hand look at their work and how Everett

Everett Rotary assisted. $1,000 – Polio Eradication Program This contribution to the Rotary Foundation was a match toward the Gates Foundation $100 million polio eradication grant. $1,000 – Shelter Box Program

Funded one box shelter to house and equip up to 10 people made homeless by natural disaster or war.

$2,100 - KIVA Micro Loan program

In Rotary year 06-07 our club budgeted $2,100 for KIVA Micro Loan program. The purpose of this program is to make small loans around the world that assist entrepreneurs to start businesses that enable them to raise their standard of living.

This and similar programs have been very successful in meeting this goal. During 07-08 our club members, Interact members and others made loans via an online program through KIVA. This proved to be a very successful effort that allowed local individuals to directly assist people all over the Third World.

2007-08 was very busy for this committee as they facilitated the sharing of local resources in needy areas.

PP Lyle Ryan and President Roy Yates helping clean up Rotary Park Although The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is not financed by the Everett Rotary Youth Foundation, it is supported by members of Everett Rotary. Under the leadership of Foundation Chairs PPs Tom Rainville and Ed Rubatino, the Club gave $40,600 to the Rotary Foundation.

Everett Rotary Youth Foundation - Investment Policy

It is Foundation policy to allocate 5% of the December 31 balance toward scholarships for the following year.
