Classes:Maximum 10 students per class, organised according to age and then language ability

English:You will receive 20 hours of English tuition per week. By the end of your stay at Rossall Summer School you will have: • Strengthened your grammar • Developed your confidence and accuracy in speaking• Improved your reading and writing ability• Increased your listening skills

Rossall Summer School is an intensive Englishlanguage programme combined with fun activitiesand cultural excursions. It runs for eight weeks inthe summer holidays on our stunning coastalcampus with plenty of space to explore. We recommend that each pupil stays for aminimum of two weeks. We teach in small classes(no more than 10 students per class) ensuringeach pupil receives individual attention.

Accommodation and Meals:Whilst at Rossall Summer School you will live in comfortablesingle or double rooms in our supervised boarding houses. There is a separate house for boys and a separate house forgirls. Each house contains a TV, DVD player, kitchenette formaking snacks and drinks, games facilities and computers withinternet access. You will eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in ourHarry Potter style dining hall each day. A sample of our menu isshown below:

Campus Facilities

Rossall Summer School is located on a 160 acre site,ideally situated on the picturesque coastland of NorthWest England. Beautiful evening sunsets are admired bypupils from all over the world who visit the SummerSchool on our very own beach.

The spacious campus has extensive sports and recreationfacilities which include a heated 25m indoor swimmingpool, squash courts, tennis courts, Fives courts, brand-new all-weather sports pitch, two indoor sports halls,extensive sports pitches for football, cricket and rounders,and a fitness room.

Pre-Sixth Form Intensive MathematicsCourse 2011Course ObjectivesThis Pre-Sixth Form Intensive MathematicsCourse has been specifically designed byRossall School for students who intend to studymathematics at Sixth Form level either within theInternational Baccalaureate Diploma or A Levelprogramme and need a little extra coaching toget them up to the required level for the course.

Our aim is to ensure that students have a solidfoundation in the key mathematical areas ofNumeracy, Algebra and Statistics. The intentionis not necessarily to introduce new material, butto enable students to consolidate and refreshtheir skills prior to starting their demanding Sixthform courses.

Course Details 2011 Students will be taught in small groups and the work will be delivered in two hour sessions. There is a planned and supervised excursion on Sunday 28th August.

Course Options and FeesThe Pre-intensive Maths course will start on Friday 26th August with boarders arriving on Thursday 25th to allow a prompt start on Friday morning. The course ends after lunch on Saturday 3rd September. You may want to attend parts of the course, or the complete course covering all three subjects.

Admission RequirementStudents must be accepted onto either the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme or the A-Level Mathematics course at Rossall's Sixth Form or at another British School in the UK. If you have not sat an entrance exam for Rossall a test paper will be supplied for you to check if you would benefit from the course.

Excursions

Travel, food and group activities areincluded in the course fees. Additionaldrinks, refreshments, souvenirs andpersonal shopping are extra and shouldbe paid for by the student. There will be an optional trip to London on Wednesday 3rdAugust. This is at an extra cost of £80. There are limited placesfor this trip which will be allocated to students who sign up first.

We will go on one excursion per week and destinations arelikely to be:

• The ancient city of York with its history and charm• The exciting city of Liverpool with its art galleries and

Beatles museums• The fashionable city of Manchester with its shops and

football clubs• The picturesque Lake District with its outstanding natural
