  • PREFACE

    This book presents a

    compilation of Corporate

    Social Responsibility (CSR)

    projects that were

    undertaken by CSR force

    teams of architecture

    students and lecturers of

    Politeknik Port Dickson,

    headed by the author since

    2018 until .

    The projects for various

    parties were part of

    students’ experiential

    learning activities to satisfy

    learning outcomes specified

    in curriculum as well as

    fulfilling the institution’s

    vision and mission.

    By engaging students with

    community service work as

    charity DEEDS, the

    Teaching and Learning

    process that took place in

    real context become more

    meaningful and effective

    in inculcating moral values

    among them besides

    enhancing their self-

    esteem in showcasing their

    skills.

    DEEDS 1

  • The author wish to

    express heartfelt

    appreciation and thank

    you to everybody who

    involved directly and

    indirectly in the projects,

    especially to the CSR

    force teams – the

    students and lecturers

    for their enthusiasm

    and hard work.

    Without cooperation,

    support, dedication and

    commitment from all of

    them, these projects

    would not successfully

    meet the targets and

    would not be realized

    into reality.

  • This artwork aims to highlight the

    “beautiful but forgotten” cultural

heritage as a catalyst towards raising

awareness and patriotic spirit among the

    community to appreciate and further

work together to save so many forgotten

    or abandoned heritage architecture

across the country. In addition, in line

with the development of new millennium

    technology, the theme "The Miracle

Touch" is grasped by integrating the

"magical touch" of science and art into

this work. The use of art paper made

from recycled tea waste as the main

medium of the work, proves that

    technological advances help produce a

more sustainable media for artists to

    experiment with. Today’s artwork should

    contribute to environmental

sustainability by leveraging the use of

    recycled materials as green media.

    Wooden frames that highlights the

natural grain of wood were chosen to

match the artistic value of this local

wood heritage architecture as well as

recalling the past memories of its fame

once upon a time. In addition, yellow

    and blue background lighting technology

as a day and night lighting effect as

well as the sounds of birds chirping and

crickets are also applied to enliven the

natural atmosphere of the context of this

subject matter while evoking a more

dramatic effect so that the message of

this artwork can touch both emotions

and memories of the audience more

    effectively.

Collage technique is applied to display

the image of this dilapidated and isolated

    heritage building, covered by plants

    after being abandoned. Mixed media

    that combines various domestic wastes

such as tea and coffee waste, eggshells,

coconut skewers and used spices are

applied to produce drawing motifs on art

    paper (paper produced through the

process of recycling tea waste). The

unique features of this paper are in

terms of tea fibre texture and

    monochromatic colour tone variations

that are suitable for featuring classic

    and nostalgic images.
