Domesticated cats in Egypt4000 years ago the Egyptians owned and cherished felines. They are the most beautiful creatures on earth and are truly man's best friend. I love my cats more than I
love people.
RowingThough I am not currently a member of the Asheville Youth Rowing Association, I was part of it for over half of my high school career and was committed to it year long. Unlike most sports, there are seasons in the spring and the fall and the off seasons are still full of practices. I made extremely close friends and learned a lot of valuable life lessons from rowing.
The founding of New YorkBoth of my parents were born in New York, and 3 of their parents were born in New York. My great grandfather Donahue helped in the construction of the Empire State Building. My great grandfather Dreisen was in the mafia and during the 1920s, he would transport liquor from Florida to Brooklyn. Many of my ancestors came in through Ellis Island from different
parts of Europe.

The birth of Alexei Nikolaevich- 1904My great great Grandmother Rose Weiss was exiled to Siberia in the early twentieth century because she fire bombed a theatre where a policital leader was. She was a socialist. While in exile, the czar of Russia had a son and in celebration of his son's birth, he freed all exiles under the age of 21. Rose then immigrated to New York City. I get part of my name from her!

The founding of Cape Breton, Nova ScotiaMy great great grandfather was born here and his grandson (my grandpa) inherited land from him. My mom and her sisters now own the land and we have lots of extended family living in Cape Breton. I'll be visiting there this summer with all of my cousins!
Immigration from Europe in the early twentieth centuryMuch of my family immigrated in the early 1900s from Poland and Ireland. I am proud of this diverse heritage and would like to learn more about
it.

My great great Grandmother Patrick died, and so did her infant daughter. Her mother also died this year and her husband (my great great Grandfather Patrick) killed himself, as did his brother. This series of deaths left my great grandmother an infant along with her three siblings. Luckily, my great grandmother was too young to remember much about it, but all of her siblings were
severely traumatized.
The Holocaust- 1930s through the 1940s The Koenigs, Dreisens, and Weisses came from Poland and Russia, so they were greatly affected by the Holocaust. This side of my family is Jewish and was persecuted and oppressed.
My Grandpa Jack was a teacher in Harlem during this time and had majored in black history. I think his love for black history, civil rights, and current world events helped to make me interested in these things also.
