THE DONKEY

When fishes flew and forests walked, and figs grew upon thorn,

Some moments when the moon was blood, then surely I was born; With monstrous head and sickening cry and ears like errant wings, The devil’s walking parody on all four-footed things.

The tattered outlaw of the earth, of ancient crooked will Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb, I keep my secret still.

Fools! For I also had my hour; one far fierce hour and sweet; There was a shout about my ears, and palms before my feet.

“I urge priests, religious and lay people to continue and redouble their

efforts to teach the younger generations the meaning and value of

Eucharistic adoration and devotion. How will young people be able to

know the Lord if they are not introduced to the mystery of His

presence? Like the young Samuel, by learning the words of the prayer

of the heart, they will be closer to the Lord, who will accompany them

in their spiritual and human growth. The Eucharistic mystery is in fact

the “summit of evangelization” (Lumen Gentium) for it is the most

eminent testimony to Christ’s resurrection.”—St. Pope John Paul II

We have one last block of hours which needs committed adorers in order to have our 24 hours of adoration completely filled for our First Friday/Saturday Adoration and Devotions, the overnight. I am happy to announce, we are now ready to begin filling those hours! While I’ll be taking sign-ups for the hours between 1:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. (the

Saturday morning early hours), we won’t be actually having adoration during those hours until they are

completely filled to avoid Father having to come in throughout the night to repose/expose the Blessed Sacrament during the vacant times. Until we have them completely filled, Benediction will remain at 11:30 p.m. Friday evening. The goal is to get the hours filled in time for our 40 hours devotion

scheduled for June1-3 leading up to, and in preparation for, the Feast of Corpus Christi and the Solemn Procession of the Body of Christ. The regular 24 hours of adoration will continue each and every first Friday and Saturday after that. There will be people available at the entrances of the church to take sign-ups during the weekends of April 6, April 20, and May 4. Toward the end of May (keep watching the bulletin and website for dates and details), we’ll have another sign-up period in conjunction with taking sign-ups to help fill the additional, one-time 16 hours we’ll need to cover for the Corpus Christi 40 hours weekend. Times in need of adorers at this time are: Fridays, 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturdays: 1:30-2:30 a.m., 2:30-3:30 a.m., 3:30-4:30 a.m., 4:30-5:30 a.m., 5:30-6:30 a.m., 6:30-7:30 a.m., and 7:30-8:30 a.m. I’m also taking sign-ups for substitutes to cover times when someone has a situation arise they can’t fulfill their hour that month. There are some hours which currently only have one adorer; two adorers per hour is preferable and, honestly, necessary to ensure the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone. Please

remember, being a committed adorer means that the hour you are signing up for will be your hour to sit

with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament each and every first Friday or Saturday. However, please don’t be afraid to commit due to the possibility of needing a month off now and again. Substitutes will be available to cover those times when necessary. Thank you everyone for prayerfully considering committing to this mission of having a full 24 hours of adoration each and every first weekend of the month! We’ve had a tremendous outpouring of support and we’re so close to having enough committed folks to make this stewardship through prayer opportunity a reality. Know that I’m praying for all of you as you discern this awesome opportunity to spend time with our Lord through adoration. For more information about adoration and/or First Friday/Saturday Devotions, or to sign up and commit to an hour of vigil each month with Christ Jesus, real presence exposed upon the altar, please contact me via email, phone, or text. Blessings to each of you in our continued Lenten journey. Denisea Kampe 828-508-1949 (cell), 828-477-4565 (home), [email protected]

HOW TO MAKE A PALM CROSS

To reduce congestion and noise at the rear of our worship space, we have added a new station in the vestibule area. Those of you who enter through the main entrance will find the Sunday bulletin and the 9am and 11am worship aids on the small table just before you pass through the swinging doors of the confessional hallway.

PLEASE KEEP IN YOUR PRAYERS:

John Knaff, recently hospitalized in Florida with heart problems, and Justin Basenese, Jacki Bautista, Susie Bryson, Sheila Coller, Will Crain, Rory Glover, Monica Glover, Barbara Jakiela, Skip Karby, Rita Lamanna, Paul Lormand, Daniella Machado, Karen Matulis, Christine Murzyn, Georgia Newsom, William Newsom, Jr., William Newsom, Sr., William Owen, Cathleen Pilch, Zig Pilch, Cynthia Pitts, Alicia Ramirez, Stuart and Janet Snyder, Jay Thorne, Allen Thurston, Joshua Turner, Lewis Turner, Pauline Watson, Bonnie Welch, Elaine Willkes; Those in Nursing Homes and the Homebound: Phyllis Brogan, Theresa Campbell, Il Whan and Moon Chung, Alicia Elias, Rosemary Finnegan, John Huffman, Anna Morrill, and Lorraine Sclafani; Family and Friends called to active duty: Christian Houston;

PRO-LIFE NEWS

The Church as the People of Life is born from the Cross. Jesus’ passion and death are his self-giving, and the power of that self-giving is given to us, that we might give ourselves to one another in serving, protecting, and celebrating the gift of life.
