President’s Report

Firstly I would like to thank Albert & Jean, Pauline & Mark and all those that helped out to make the Junior Workshop an outstanding success. It looked and sounded great, especially the musical numbers with help from Karen Talbot. Well done to all concerned.

Last year we applied for a grant from the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants which is run by the Government. We have been in urgent need for an Overhead projector for the Theatre and we thought that if we could procure some funds, it would solve that problem. Out of the blue I received a phone call from Mr Don Randall (Federal Minister for Canning) that our application was successful and we should receive $ 2750.00 by mail. The projector will benefit the Theatre no-end.

Thank you to all the helpers that made the Minnawarra Festival a great event. The talent quest run admirably by Bree Hartley and her crew was a great effort & thanks to all the contestants. There is a lot of talent in our area and we must nurture this as much as possible.

The I.T.A has invited me to a Presidents meeting to be held in May. This has been arranged so we can all get together with all of the other presidents, to share idea’s and discuss any problems that may come up. We will also be able to discuss what plays & musicals are being proposed.

The installation of the new lighting bars is now complete, and if you are thinking of seeing The Club, which is our next production, you will see them in operation. Ashton’s were a dream to deal with & I thank them sincerely. We are having a huge busy-bee on the 29th April starting at 2.00pm. We are planning on revamping the foyer, tidying the garden, general clean up internally as well as getting rid of a lot of rubbish which has accumulated. We have ordered two Large Bins in anticipation. I would like to see many members attend to make this task easy.

Their aim is to provide opportunities for community theatre participants of all levels to learn from industry professionals and respected community theatre practitioners. They facilitate a range of master-classes and discussion panels on many topics including: • 3rd April – Panel discussion on

Direction. • 17th April – Masterclass on Direction• 12th June – Panel discussion on

Drama Festivals. • 19th June – Masterclass on Drama

Festivals

UpstageWA have the support of the ITA and can be contacted for further details on [email protected] or check the ITA website for further details.

At the last committee meeting I outlined plans on what I would like the theatre to achieve this year. This included building new flats, re-flooring the stage, progress on the new wiring as per our discussions with the council as well as a sell-out season for all of our shows. This can be achieved if we are all united & participate in all of our activities.

Kim Martin is going well with his rehearsals for the Club, and don’t forget to book your tickets. Once upon a mattress has also started there rehearsals, so busy times ahead. See you all at the busy bee. Regards Zyg.

Armadale Minnawarra Festival

The theatre was involved over both days of this annual festival and we were well represented by a stall, a Talent Quest and the Chamber Choir. The numbers were noticeably down this year, however we still gave out many flyers and did our bit to promote the arts in Armadale! THANKYOU to everyone who helped erect and take down the stall as well as the many volunteers who manned the stall. The amount of volunteers this year was fantastic and I thank you sincerely for giving up a small (or large!) part of your weekend. The talent quest had a really high level of talent and went very smoothly with a girl called Brooke Sellers taking first place with a lively rendition of the song ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’. She won $40 cash, donated by the theatre, and a microphone and stand donated by Classic sounds. There was also a second place and achievement award presented based on the judging by Zyg Woltersdorf and Councillor June MacDonald. The Roleystone Chamber Choir finished off the Sunday afternoon with yet another dazzling performance. Well done ladies☺

New Costume Mistresses!

As of the AGM Maureen Woltersdorf has handed over the running of Roleystone Theatre’s many and varied costumes to Bobbie Chapman, Malita Morrison and Jennifer Philips. Should you have any queries regarding costuming please contact Bobbie Chapman on 9397 5730.
