Definition of MorbidityDefinition of Morbidity A disease condition and the occurrence of a
disease in a population.
Measured using the morbidity rate.
Morbidity rate – the occurrence of a disease over period of time.
M.R. = No. of people who are ill / total population.
Causes of Morbidity Causes of Morbidity
Seems to be a correlation between high M.R. and economic development.
Inadequate capital (money) Poor infrastructure, like sewage removal systems.
Poor education level Unaware of personal hygiene.
Malnutrition Aggravates the severity of the disease.
Causes of Morbidity (2)Causes of Morbidity (2) Overcrowding Creates stress on water
supplies.
Natural disasters Sewage pipes can burst, thus contaminates water supplies.
Climate (probably the main factor) Diseases thrive in tropical countries, which are generally under-developed Poor medical facilities.

Is the major killer of our century
Malaria is most common is equatorial regions.
Malaria is spread through mosquitoes.
Has been responsible for killing millions of people.
Morbidity- MEDC’sMorbidity- MEDC’s SARS New super virus These sorts of super viruses are becoming
common in MEDC’s Virus stared in China, but was responsible
for infecting many countries in Asia and North America including MEDC’s (Hong Kong, Signore, Canada).
Killed over 1000 people Proved that no mater how good a medical
system is it can still be beaten.
