History and Development

The founder of the company, John Rodgers, had a glittering football history and in the 1960s he played as right-back for

ShefeldUnited.FollowinghisfootballcareerJohnstartedJohnRodgersandAssociatesin1984andinthatsameyear

wasjoinedbyAndyLeask.In1989RodgersLeasksDerbyofcewasformed.

DuetotheamountofworkbeingundertakeninLondonRodgersLeaskopenedaLondonofceinJanuary2001and

throughfurtherexpansionmovedthisofcetoCroydonwhereithascontinuedtogofromstrengthtostrength.

Engineering Statement

Rodgers Leask aims to provide the highest possible

personal service, appropriate design and advice for

clients. It is important to the company that it works

closely with other design team members to ensure that

economic designs are achieved, which meet all the clients

requirements.

A strength of the company is its commitment to team

work both externally and internally. A Director will be

responsible for the project and will be directly involved with

the project throughout assisted by a Regional Director/

Team Leader, who will be responsible for the design team

working on the project.

Engineering Statement

Rodgers Leask has broad expertise covering the structural

design of buildings in the majority of the construction

industry. Their expertise extends to the following:

Full structural engineering services covering all types of

Detailed calculation and design of all types of

construction using industry standard software.

Production of project drawings and schedules using

AutoCAD and third party applications.

Design of large single and multi span structures.

Company Philosophy

Rodgers Leask places great emphasis on the importance of client focus. It is vitally important that Rodgers

Leask has a high awareness of its clients needs and look at the longer term when developing working

relationships. In addition, great emphasis is put on establishing the project team from the outset. It is always

the desire to be involved at the earliest possible stage of any project so that the company can provide the

necessary engineering advice to help the client and the other members of the team.

On all projects, both minor and major, it is vitally important that the scheme is approached with an open mindthus assuring that all alternatives are examined at the cost plan stage. Value engineering should be used at

every stage of the project. Throughout the company the attitude is one to provide a fast response with the

quality of service and awareness of the necessity to design with economy.

Through close relationships with specialist designers and trade contractors Rodgers Leask is able maintain its

Printing o the resulting inormation is all done in-house with networked printers, photocopiers and large

ormat - large volume multi-unction copiers, both monochrome and colour, available to all users. This

enables prompt issue o documents to our clients and scheme partners.

Rodgers Leask recognises the benets o a structured IT strategy and employs a ull-time IT Manager toensure the IT is maintained and upgraded, thus providing immediate support to all the sta in our our

oces. We have a ully maintained webpage, which we would invite all our clients to visit, and can provide

web authoring services i required. All oces are serviced by an Intranet utilising the latest equipment and

cabling standards throughout. These are linked via our servers to the Internet or necessary electronic

communications such as email, tp, http, IRC and communications such as email , tp, http, IRC and

VPN. A backup o all systems is carried out daily to ensure that loss o data due to accidental deletion or

hardware ailure is minimised.

The majority o our design and detailing is carried out with the help o computers although not at the

expense o traditional knowledge and skill. All our technical sta use AutoCAD based products supplemented

by Microsot Oce.

On the design ront we have numerous pieces o sotware available to our Engineers and Technicians toaid them in their design o both earthworks and structures. In particular we carry out designs utilisign the

The Organisation complies with all relevant statutory

members of staff.

Copies of the minutes of Management Reviews, or

1. Health & Safety

A series of in-house seminars delivered by an external

health and safety consultant, Wenlock Limited, arecompulsary for all technical staff. In this manner staff

are kept up to date with relevant changes to health

and safety legislation.

All Rodgers Leask technical staff are also required to

obtain relevant Construction Industry Training Board

qualications.Inparticularallengineersarerequired

toholdtheCITBmanagementqualication.

2. CPD - Continued

Professional Development

A series of in-house courses and seminars are

held throughout the year enabling the workforce to

develop and keep abreast of new technologies and

techniques.

3. Management & Business

Development Training

A number of in-house courses held to assist in the

development of the business, undertaken by external

consultants iems ltd. The sessions have looked at

company goals, processes, improvements, strategies,actionplans,potentialbenetsandpotentialpitfalls

which will help to drive Rodgers Leask forward

leading to further expansion.

4. IStructE / ICE

Rodgers Leask promote and support the Institution of

Structural Engineers and Institution of Civil Engineers.John Rodgers and Andrew Leask have both been

past Chairman of the Institution of Structural

Engineers, East Midlands Branch, and are both still

very active within the Branch in promoting structural

engineering within the region.

5. Academic / Professional Qualications

Rodgers Leask assists all employees in their

development within the company. For staff who wish

Company Health & Saety Policy

This Health and Safety Policy has been laid down

by the companies, Rodgers Leask Ltd and Rodgers

Leask Environmental Ltd (the Rodgers Leask Group),

in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act1974. The Policy is reviewed annually. Henceforth the

term Company will mean both Rodgers Leask Ltd and

Rodgers Leask Environmental Ltd, i.e. the Rodgers

Leask Group.

The Company willingly accepts its duty, so far as is

reasonably practicable, to safeguard the health, safety

and welfare of its employees and others who may be

affected by their actions.

It is Company Policy to provide safe and health

working conditions for all employees, and to make

available all necessary resources in terms of

manpower, plant and equipment training, information

and supervision for the safe execution of their work.

Due regard is given to the provisions of the Health

and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Construction

(Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996, The

Construction (Design & Management) Regulations

1994, the Management of Health and Safety at Work

Regulations 1999, the Work at Height Regulations

2005,theProvisionandUseofWorkEquipment

Regulations 1998, the COSHH Regulations 2002 (and

as amended 2004), the Personal Protective Equipment

at Work Regulations 1992, the Control of Noise at

Work Regulations 2005, Control of Vibration at Work

Regulations 2005, and all other relevant legislation,

approved codes of practice etc.

The implementation of this Health and Safety Policy is

the direct responsibility of the company director, Mr A

Leask (hereafter referred to as the Health and Safety

Director).

To assist in this undertaking, the responsibility for

the management of health and safety throughout the

company is delegated to the Health and Safety Co-

Ordinator, Mr I Bradley.

All other employees of the company have a duty under

the Policy and the Law to assist in this undertaking.

The content of the Policy is made known to all

employees through Company Induction as the start of

employment as made necessary by amendment.

ToassisttheHealthandSafetyManagerinfulllinghis

duties, the Company retains the services of Health andSafety Consultants, Wenlock Health and Safety Ltd

ofTelford(specically,MrsJ.M.Horsewood,MIIRSM,

MaPS, TechSP).

The company thus has access to external safety

services such as advice, training, accident

investigation, documentation etc. and is kept fully

abreast of changing legislation, developments and
