IMPORTANT NOTE: S10 and V10L platforms are not supported.

LOCALIZING NOTE: For those customers who are using a localization file, a new method has been introduced in ThinOS 8.0_037 to make this process easier. Now each message file will include the firmware build for which that file was created. This will make matching the versions much easier. In addition to this version information a new summary that provides the DIFF between the last release and the current release is provided on the Wyse Self-Service Center at http://support.wyse.com/selfservice.html. This allows customers who have already translated an older message file to simply view what has been added/removed and then make those changes. This process prevents the need to re-translate the entire new message file. For full translation details, see Wyse Knowledge Base Solution #23215 (go to the Wyse Knowledge Base athttp://www.wyse.com/kb and search for 23215).

Release 8.0 Build 037 3

• XenApp Features:· SpeedScreen Latency Reduction

Speed Screen Latency Reduction is a collective term used to describe two separate technologies, namely Local Text Echo and Mouse Click Feedback (which helps enhance the user experience over a high latency connection). Local text echo accelerates the display of the input text on the client device, effectively shielding the user from experiencing latency on the network. Mouse click feedback provides visual feedback for mouse-clicks. To use Speed Screen Latency Reduction, launch a seamless application in the XenApp server, do mouse-click, and notice the visual feedback; input any text, and notice the display of the text on the client device is accelerated.NOTE: You must enable it in both the XenApp server and the ThinOS client. To enable it on the ThinOS client use the SessionConfig=ICA options for ZLKeyboardMode and ZLMouseMode. To enable it on the XenApp server go to Start > Administrative Tools > Citrix > Administration Tools > SpeedScreen Latency Reduction Manager.

· Prelaunch/Lingering (XenApp v6.5 only)Prelaunch is a feature that helps to reduce the application starting time during peak-traffic. Lingering is a function that decides how to deal with disconnected sessions and existing sessions after a timer interval. You can set it in XenApp policies. To enable Prelaunch: A Pre-Launch Session is based on an existing published application on your XenApp farm. To create one, pick an app, right-click on it in the AppCenter console and select Other Tasks, and then select Create Session Pre-Launch Application. This will create a Pre-Launch MyAppName you can use.

Page 8: RN Wyse ThinOS 8 0 037 RevA GR - Northern Arizona University · PDF fileDell vWorkspace acts both as a File Server and as a Connection Broker, however both options need to be defined

4 Chapter 1

To use Prelaunch, launch a seamless application from the XenApp server for which a pre-launch application has been created. A window Starting PreLaunch-xxx will display on the ThinOS client. After the Prelaunch is finished, launch any seamless application and notice it will be launched quickly without the Citrix License Warning Notice dialog and application launching window.

RDP 8.0 Features:• Load Balance• Web Single Sign-On (SSO) and Web forms-based authentication• Access to personal virtual desktops by using RD Connection Broker• Access to virtual desktop pools by using RD Connection Broker• Bidirectional audio• Windows Media Player redirection• Multiple monitors support• Enhanced video playback• VOR (H.264)

A new technique of MMR that does not depend on DirectShow interface video renders application. The Server will adopt VOR for playback based on capacity or on absence of TSMM. The Client will show server VOR start/stop details in event logs (RDP 8 sessions only).NOTE: Not supported on C10LE and V10LE.

• Multi Codec (GFX)Multi Codec encoding is defined as different parts of the screen are encoded using different encoding codecs. That is, text will be encoded different than video or graphics. GFX is advertised in client capability. Server side decides which content use and which codec. Similar to the older RDP client receiving bitmap and drawline, and rectangle. Client will show the log as RDP: RDP8 Graphics Pipeline is enabled instead of indicating the specific codec in the event logs (RDP 8 sessions only).NOTE: Not supported on C10LE and V10LE. T10 is disabled by default.

• Multi-streamThis is a technique to support UDP connect and TCP connect at the same time, in order to improve the user experience in the cases of multimedia playback. Some data goes through TCP and some through UDP. This is decided by the server according to the media nature and other factors.

• TS gatewaySupport for RDP connections with TS Gateway. Users can specify the TS Gateway settings in the RDP connection configurations. If users sign on with the Microsoft broker, the applications can obtain the TS Gateway settings from the RDS server.

• Copy/paste files directly between active sessionsUsers can now copy and paste files directly between active sessions, and not just the content. Between RDP sessions there is no restriction. Note that It also works between ICA sessions but the files must sit within a shared folder accessible to both sessions. Copy/paste of files between RDP and ICA sessions is not supported.

• RemoteFX USB redirectionNOTE the following:· Users can exclude device redirection in Global Connection Settings > Session >

USB devices redirection.· Users must select the Play on remote computer option in RDP Properties > Options

to redirected audio devices.· USB DVD-ROM redirection is not supported in Windows 8/Windows 2012

RemoteFX sessions.

Release 8.0 Build 037 5

• Connectivity improvements (bandwidth estimation)RDP 8 has made significant modifications to the code base to enhance the end user experience. Some of these features come into play at initial connection, while others are in flight during a session. The protocol senses the available connection speed through timing code inserted in the standard communications within the packet data. As result a new option Auto detect network was added to the build and enabled by default in the RDP connection properties/options/INI parameters (which also disables the Optimize for low speed link option and the Desktop Experience option by default).

Dell vWorkspace Integration Features:• Dell vWorkspace is integrated by Dell Wyse Thin Clients with ThinOS™ as an

individual broker type. Application Publishing in Seamless Window Mode is supported on Dell Wyse Thin Clients with ThinOS and Dell vWorkspace 8.0. This functionality will allow organizations to achieve seamless window application publishing hosted in RDS Hosts managed in a vWorkspace 8.0 Farm without the need of a Windows Embedded operating system. After you connect to Dell vWorkspace Connection Broker on Dell Wyse Thin clients with ThinOS, and once the user is authenticated by the Connection Broker, the list of published Virtual Desktops is displayed.

If you click on the Connect Manager, you will see the list of published Virtual Desktops.

Part 1 - Thin Client Configuration: · You can configure using DHCP:

Create options 161 and 188 (both with string values). 161 is the File Server and 188 is the Connection Broker. Dell vWorkspace acts both as a File Server and as a Connection Broker, however both options need to be defined. DHCP Scope Option 161 File Server: http://broker_name:/8080/wyse (it is

Page 10: RN Wyse ThinOS 8 0 037 RevA GR - Northern Arizona University · PDF fileDell vWorkspace acts both as a File Server and as a Connection Broker, however both options need to be defined

important that you type the directory /wyse as stated) DHCP Scope Option 188 Connection Broker: http://broker_name:8080NOTE: Replace broker_name with your broker name or IP addresses; if you use a name ensure you have DNS resolution (you can use; for multiple addresses).

· You can configure manually:If you do not have access to a DHCP Server or if you do not want to make changes to your DHCP Servers, you can use the Manual Configuration Method by powering on your Thin Client and manually entering the changes required (it is recommended that you to upgrade your Thin Client device firmware to the latest production version prior to manual configuration). Step 1 - Configuring the File Server Setting:The Dell vWorkspace Connection Broker natively provides File Server support for your ThinOS Thin Clients, so there is no need to setup an additional FTP or HTTP Server in your environment. Later in this section the vWorkspace Connection Broker Server configuration is discussed and you will see how this configuration ties in together.Click on the desktop area, select the Administration option from the menu, click Central Configuration, type your connection broker server name or address in the format http://broker_name:8080/wyse, leave the Username and Password with the default values (the vWorkspace Connection Broker Server will accept anonymous requests), click OK (after you click OK you may be asked to reboot the device, if so, reboot your device)

Step 2 - Configuring the Connection Broker Server Setting:Click on the desktop area, select the Administration option from the menu, click on Remote Connections, select Dell vWorkspace for the broker, type your connection broker server name or address in the format http://broker_name:8080, click OK (after you click OK you may be asked to reboot the device, if so, reboot your device).

Release 8.0 Build 037 7

Part 2 - Dell vWorkspace Broker Server Configuration: NOTE: In order to allow Dell vWorkspace to service Dell Wyse ThinOS™ devices the following steps must be performed at all your vWorkspace Connection Broker Servers.Step 1 - Enabling Compatibility Mode:Dell vWorkspace version 6.x introduced enhanced security to allow connections from only version 6.x connectors. In some cases, it is required to turn off this option. For example, if you wanted to connect to the Farm using a Dell Wyse ThinOS™ Thin Client. Enabling Compatibility Mode will still encrypt sensitive data such as user passwords. To enable Compatibility Mode you are required to add the following registry key on each server running the Quest Connection Broker service (Note that after completing the registry changes you must restart the Quest Connection Broker service on all of the vWorkspace Connection Broker Servers):

For 64-bit Operating Systems:HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Provision Networks\Common\Load And License Manager CompatibilityMode = 1 REG_DWORD

For 32-bit Operating Systems:HKLM\Software\Provision Networks\Common\Load And License Manager CompatibilityMode = 1 REG_DWORD

Step 2 - Creating the Required Files and Directories:Copy the required Files and Directories on each of your vWorkspace Connection Broker Servers WYSE folder which under the vWorkspace base installation folder (normally C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\vWorkspace). Be sure to include all required files including INI files and bitmaps used for desktop backgrounds and login window logos and so on.
