Caring for Your Device

The Device is well built and is a great tool for learning, but it is not a toy!Remember an iPad, like any other piece of electronic equipment, it needs to be treated with acertain level of care. There are several things you can do to ensure your device’s operation andoffer yourself a trouble-free and rewarding experience.

1) It is portable and you can take it everywhere. One of the best features of your Device is the fact that it is portable. It enables you to take yourhomework, reports, presentations, games and music wherever you go. When transporting yourdevice, there are a few simple things you can do to protect it.

•Set up your device on a stable work surface.•Keep your device away from sources of liquids, such as drinks, bathtubs, shower stalls, etc...•Protect your device from dampness or wet weather, such as rain, snow, and fog.•Never carry or leave your device in your backpack when you are not using it.•Keep sand and water away from the device. Please don’t take it to the beach.•Do not subject your device to extreme heat or cold.•Leaving it in an unventilated car or in the sun may damage the device.•If your device has been exposed to cold conditions for an extended period of time, let it warm upto room temperature before you use it.•Do not eat or drink while using your device.

2) Remember, it is fun to use, but it is an electronic device.•Do not insert things, especially metal, into any of the openings (ports) on your Device.•Be Patient! Sometimes devices need to take a few seconds to think - so don’t start pounding onit if response is not immediate.•Plug-in your MLTI device when you get home from school so that your battery is fully chargedfor the next day.•Remember, hard drives do not like to be bounced around and screens will break if enough

Page 16: RLRS MLTI DEVICE Rules and Procedures Grades 6 12 2013 2014 … · 2013-08-21 · Bring the device to the computer lab. The tech staff will determine what is wrong and whether the

pressure is applied to them.

3) Cleaning- Follow these general rules when cleaning your MLTI Device & Screen:1. Shut down your device, unplug the power adapter.2. Use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth with WATER ONLY to clean the device’s exterior & screen.Avoid getting moisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on the device. Don’t useaerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives on the exterior or the screen.

4) Cables•Cables should be lined up straight with the connector when inserting and removing. Be sure tograsp the plug, not the cord, and pull it straight out when disconnecting.•If your battery isn’t charging, do not wiggle the power cord back and forth. See the Tech Dept.

STUDENT USE OF CELLULAR TELEPHONES OR OTHERELECTRONIC DEVICES - SCHOOL RULES

NEPN/NSBA Code: JFCA-R RANGELEY SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

1. Students are prohibited from using privately-owned electronic devices, including but notlimited to cellular telephones, Blackberries, handheld computers, MP3 players, iPods andelectronic games during classes and school activities*, including study halls*, field trips*and extracurricular activities.*

2. During classes and school activities, all such devices must be turned off.

a. The only exception to this rule is when a teacher specifically authorizes studentsto use such a personal electronic device for a specific purpose or using iPods foreducational purposes.

b. The use of iPods is increasingly becoming more of an educational tool and notjust a form of entertainment. With the increasing demand of absences and earlydismissals due to extra-curricular activities students will miss important classtime. To allay any potential disadvantage this may cause students participating inenriching activities, podcasts are being utilized for the students to access onlinefor downloading onto hard drives and onto iPods. This affords the students theability to “sit in” on the class they missed, while at home, in study hall, ortransporting (on the bus) to an event. The student council recognizes the potentialof iPod abuse. Inappropriate use by students will leave them subject todisciplinary actions. These privileges may be revoked on the judgment of thesestaff members.

c. If this rule is violated, the teacher will immediately confiscate the device for theremainder of the school day, and discipline may be imposed as provided below.

3. Students may not use cellular phones at any time during the school day. Everyclassroom is equipped with telephone service, thus eliminating the need for students touse their own phones. Restricting cell phone use is further necessary for safety reasons, particularly in the case of any threat that arises. We recognize that students benefit fromcellphone use during after-school hours, field trips, and extracurricular activities. Therefore, students may bring cell phones to school with the understanding that thesephones will remain in their lockers or concealed in backpacks where they are not easily

5. Any use of other electronic devices that violates any Board policy, administrativeprocedures or school rule is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited toviolations of the student code of conduct, harassment and cheating.

6. Students violating these rules will be subject to discipline, which may include:

a. Exclusion of the device from school for an extended period;;b. Sanctions ranging from detention to expulsion from school depending upon the
