An estimated 35,000attended last years RiverDaysThe wall overlooking the

Ohio River in New Richmondwas filled with onlookers dur-ing the 17th AnnualCardboard Boat Regatta at the2009 RiverDays.There were 51 entries last

year according to organizer ofthe event, Ray Perszyk. Threeboats were registered to racein two separate events.“I guesstimate that we had

around 3,000 race fans andgroupies for the race thisyear,” said race organizer RayPerszyk. “Based on the wall,steps and beach count, wehave estimates of 30 - 35,000over the three day weekend.”Bwanna Johnny, aka Craig

Troescher, was on the beach tocall the boaters to the startingline and he also called theraces, encouraging boaterswho were lagging behind ortipping.The top awards in each cat-

egory include, ChastityLemon and Tom Lemon inSlime Time for the multi-crewboat; Zack McGee in Nemofor the single crew boat andthe fastest boat of the day;Mac Bloom in Ghost BustersIII Jr for the youth category;Sam Richard in Elemonatorwinner of the cardboard cup;Jon and Dave Janszen in SOSCobra received the TitanicAward for the most dramaticsinking; Leslie Schuller andRandy Kerns in JumbiJammer received the most cre-ative award; Jane Loomis andNathon Steel in Taco Shellreceived the Bwanna JohnnyAward; Sarah Hartman andLaura Wilson in CornellaMarie received the People’sChoiceAward and Elie Kidderin Kidder Transport won theSmall Stacks Award.“This was our 17th annual

race and it is growing largereach year as the word getsaround,” said Perszyk. “Theproceeds from the race goes tothe world’s only CardboardBoat Museum.”The museum located 120

Front Street opened after the2006 race. According toPerszyk, the museum is man-aged by Team Lemon andkept alive by volunteers,sponsors and donations.

“We have fund-raisers peri-odically, including a raffleboat, T-shirt sales and tours,”said Perszyk.Other events throughout the

weekend included musicalentertainment by the CheapThrill Band, Shane Danielsand Unbridled, the FreedomBand, Midnight Special Bandand Dr. Dan and the StrayDogs. The Loveland PropBusters Radio ControlAirplane Flying Club per-formed on Sunday and the UCNational Championship Water

Ski Team entertained festivalgoers with a demonstration.There were fireworks on the

river Saturday night whichdrew a large crowd and theNew Richmond Fire and EMSAuxiliary Car Show was alsoa highlight.Veterans were recognized

during a special ceremony onSaturday.RiverDays offered some-

thing for kids of every agewith rides, a gambling tentand craft and food vendors.

Racers participated in the 17th Annual Cardboard BoatRegatta. A total of 48 boats took part in the races.
