Week 8 Term 3
Dear Parents/Carers,
With the onset of this beautiful weather lately, it is a nice reminder that we are into Spring! The next few
weeks of school will certainly keep us all busy.
This year, school staff been focussed on the delivery of strong literacy and numeracy programs designed to
build the skills and ability level of students, and ultimately improve student outcomes. This is a key direction
of our 2015-2017 School Plan.
These programs include:
L3 (Literacy, Language and Learning)
Focus on Reading - emphasis on strong literacy practices such as Reciprocal Reading, Literacy Circles
and Super Six Comprehension techniques.
TEN (Teaching Early Numeracy)
This term under the Department of Education’s Reform ‘Quality Teaching Successful Students’ (QTSS),
teachers have been receiving close support in the delivery of quality literacy practices. This support has
included team teaching, class observations and research readings and where staff meet regularly together to
discuss and reflect on the impact of these programs. All Ringrose Public School staff understand that we need
to be the leading learners as strong role models for students.
Next term, under the QTSS model, we will be looking closely at the Numeracy program Taking Off With
Numeracy (TOWN) and the implications on student learning. Whilst all English and Mathematics K-10 Syllabi
are taught intrinsically in the classrooms, these pedagogy approaches strengthen the delivery of quality
lessons further. With all new changes, it will take time to embed these programs across the school. However,
we are already seeing the impact they are making into the learning cycle for students.
I would also like to the opportunity to thank the many parents who come in and assist with the reading
program ‘MultiLit’. This program allows our older students to receive one to one time with our volunteers on
specific reading techniques. It is making a positive difference to student outcomes!
As you may be aware, Mrs Willis will be taking Maternity Leave from next week. Mrs Palise will be taking
over the role of class teacher of KW. We all wish Mrs Willis the best on the safe arrival of her baby!
Today was a very exciting day for one young man in 2/3S who was able to return to school for the first time
this year. Justin as you are aware has been through extensive medical treatment and it was fabulous to see
him back. I know we will all continue to support the family. Welcome back Justin!

Woolworths Earn and Learn Program 2015
Ringrose Public School is powering towards its goal of 60,000 points for this year’s Earn and
Learn Program! Students can return sticker sheets in the Woolworths box set up in our
office area. We also have a box set up at Woolworths Greystanes and Pemulwuy. I would
encourage everyone to help the school as valuable resources will be purchased for the
school at the end of this initiative. Sticker sheets can be collected from the School Office,
your local Woolworths or can be printed online.
Zone Athletics Carnival 2015
In the past fortnight, many students have had the opportunity to represent Ringrose Public at the Zone
Athletics Carnival. Each and every student did their best and did their school proud, amongst having to
battle the heat and then rain. We have a few students who have done so well that they will progress to the
next level, the Regional Carnival. We wish these students the best of luck.
Amongst these students, we are proud to say that we have a record breaker and a zone age champion.
Callum managed to jump over the Junior Boys High Jump record by 7cm, jumping a huge 1.32m. Max was
just named Senior Boys Age Champion, which means that he did really well in a variety of events. Every
student that represented Ringrose Public should be very proud of themselves - Well Done.

The S.R.C. Thoughts on the New Mural!
“It looks beautiful and I like the countryside because of all the
animals.” - Tayla 2/3S
“It’s nice, colourful, beautiful and I like it a lot!” - Baz 2/3S
“The Mural has so much detail, especially in all of the animals and
it really shows how beautiful Australia is.” - Elli 6M
“The Mural look pretty and it brings the Aboriginal culture to the
school and that’s what I like about the Mural.” - April 6M
The S.R.C. believes that the benefit of having the Mural, instead of
just plain old boring poles, is that there are a lot of Aboriginal
people in our school so it’s good that we have something that
reflects on them. Another reason is, not only is it good for the
Aboriginal people but its also good for all of us because we are all
Australian.
Ringrose Public School Gardening Club
Ringrose’s gardens are looking more lush and beautiful every day! I’m sure you have
seen all the new additions to our growing gardens. Thank you to Jennie, a friend of
Mrs Vucic who is a nurse at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, who donated all our
stunning Clivias. We would also like to thank the Cutajar family, who have generously
donated a Guava Tree.
Ringrose Public School
Debating Team - “Erudite” 2015
Last week, on Tuesday 25th of August, Ringrose “Erudite” debated against Newbridge
Heights Public School. The Debate Topic was “The Australian Flag should be changed.” As
we were the Affirmative team we unfortunately lost, but we were extremely proud of
ourselves for making it all the way to the Regional rounds!

CANTEEN INFORMATION
Thank you to all students who participated in Donut Day. It was a great success and I hope you all

I will be taking leave for the first two weeks of Term 4. Mr Fitzpatrick will be running the Canteen
as Relieving Canteen Manager, with the help of our dedicated parent volunteers, whilst I am on
leave. I ask that all Freshcard payments for Term 3 are finalised before the end of term. Please also

have any questions or concerns, please contact me as soon as possible on 0411 143 609.
The Canteen Lunch Order Box can be found on the Staffroom steps from 8:30am every morning.
Lunch orders are to be placed in the box or brought to the Canteen and pushed under the doors.
During wet weather, the Lunch Order Box will be moved to the School Office.
If your child is leaving school early and has placed a recess or lunch order, please notify the
