Two Wrongs Won't

Make Missouri A Right -

To-Work StateBy Abigail Adams

The Right-To-Work (aka RTW) debate in

Missouri has been raging on for over a

decade now, but is based, for all practi-

cal purposes, on purely emotional union

responses fed to the rank and file by the

fat-cat union bosses who never seem to

get voted out of their positions regard-

less of what they do or do not do.

It is time for a history lesson here. In the

1940's, twelve states felt it necessary to

to become RTW states, either by way of

their constitution or by passing legisla-

tion: Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georg-

ia, Iowa, Nebraska, North Carolina,

North and South Dakota, Tennessee,

Texas, and Virginia. In the 1950's, six

more states followed suit, bringing the

total to 18: Alabama, Kansas, Missis-

sippi, Nevada, South Carolina, and

Utah. In the 1960's, only Wyoming join-

ed the RTW crowd, although Mississippi

further entrenched itself with a Consti-

tutional amendment in that decade. In

1976, Louisiana turned RTW, Idaho in

1985, and just barely into the 21st cent-

ury, Oklahoma amended its Constitution

to bring the total number of states to 22.

That brings us to this current decade,

where in the first 5 years, 3 more states,

take a huge amount of money, blood,

sweat, and tears for MISSOURIANS to

get OUR state back to RTW when our

representatives and senators have for

once done what we wanted them to do

(well, again, sort of--at least it can be

built upon in the future).

Meanwhile, union dues would continue

to be used to elect the same living-in-

their-own-little-bubble politicians that

are union-friendly, support out-of-state

politicians, people, and organizations

you would NEVER give money to, bank-

rupt state and local governments with

overpriced contracts and failing pension

funds, and of course, only elect the same

old fat-cat bosses and benefit the long-

time, full-time employees over anyone

else in the union ranks. Do not let them

steal your decision, and do not let the

less than 9% of Missourians dictate to

the rest of us, by deception, how union

dues and union jobs get mandated! We

say, Vote Yes on Prop A.

Voting for the right person for the

state house or senate is not rocket

science --just find a candidate's Face -

book page and he or she will quickly

tell you what a left-wing or right-wing

nut they are, whether they are a social-

ist, communist, capitalist or fascist.

And, you will quickly know whether he

or she is Constitutionally sound or has

no clue what is in their party's plat -

form. So, we say, choose carefully. Your

kids and grandkids will have to live with

either the higher taxes your vote hangs

them with, or enjoy the restoration of

freedoms that got their party started...

Your choice.

came RTW. According to the U.S. Bureau

of Labor Statistics, RTW states added 2

times the number of new jobs as the

other 28 NON-RTW states from 2004 to

2013. As much as the unions would love

to deny it, there are so very many com-

panies (if not all of them) that will abso-

lutely NOT move any part of their opera-

tions into a state that is not Right-To-

Work. In 2014, Michigan and Indiana led

the nation in new manufacturing jobs

after passing RTW in 2012. In Missouri

alone, it is estimated we lost $18.3 bil-

lion in total wages since our legislature

has been attempting to pass RTW. After

the 2010 census, not only because new

companies were not locating here, but

because of an exodus of Missourians not

finding work, resulted in the loss of

Missouri's 9th Congressional District.

Since 2013, we have had one less U.S.

Congressman in Washington over this

lack of RTW legislation.

But finally, in 2017, Missouri joined Ken-

tucky to pass RTW (albeit a watered-

down version, as spineless supermajori-

ties tend to do). While it is a little early

to get good statistics, you might ask

around and see if things have been bet-

ter in Missouri in the last 16 months.

Union members might even slip up and

say it has been better over the past year

or so. On the other side of the coin, in

West Virginia in early 2016, the RTW

legislation that had been passed by the

WV statehouse was vetoed by term-

limited Governor Earl Ray Tomlin, giving

a double wammy to the "killed coal"

economy there. No wonder incoming

Governor Jim Justice went back to being

a Republican 7 months into his first

term. And as a side note, it has been

said that Missouri kept its Republican

majority in 2016 because most Missouri-

ans still wanted Missouri to be RTW.

As usual, a lot of out-of-state money and

personnel has poured into our state to

attempt to CHANGE OUR STATE CON-

STITUTION with Proposition A that they

have succeeded in getting on the August

ballot. If it passes, Missouri may FOREV-

ER be a unionized state because it will

Primary CandidatesBy Debra Sprenger

The 11 REPUBLICANS are: Brian Hagg,

Josh Hawley, Bradley Krembs, Tony

Monetti, Kristi Nichols, Ken Patterson,

Austin Petersen, Peter Pfeifer, Fred Ry-

man, Christina Smith, and Cortland

Sykes. If you would like your vote to ac-

tually count, the viable candidates, in

order, would be: Josh Hawley, Austin

Petersen, and most likely a toss-up be-

tween Tony Monetti, Kristi Nichols, and

Courtland Sykes. Many are still upset

with Josh Hawley over his move to climb

the ladder when he swore up and down

he would not, but he is likely the best

bet to beat out tired old has-been and

rich Obama-clone McCaskill who has

never done much of anything for Mis-

souri or Missourians. Petersen, on the

other hand, pays for his own polls show-

ing him ahead, and if you believe open

borders would be the ruination of our

country, he is NOT your man for senate.

That leaves Nichols or Sykes for your

contemplation. Both are quite know-

ledgeable and "correctly Republican" on

the grave matters of the country, but of

these, Kristi Nichols may be more likely

to keep to the Republican platform and

resist the temptations of the DC swamp.

The 7 DEMOCRATS are: Angelica Earl,

David Faust, John Hogan, Travis Gonza-

les, Claire McCaskill, Leonard Steinman

II, and Carla Wright. Other than the out-

of-touch Claire McCaskill, the only two

of note are Leonard Steinman, who has

run for everything from a city mayor to

governor--and just about all other of-

fices in between; and Carla Wright, who

seems smart, caring, and has had real

jobs, but still thinks we can afford way

more free things in life . The others are

seemingly not ready for primetime. Earl

is young and believes we need Medicare

for ALL, and "compassion training" for

law enforcement. Faust is ill-tempered,

wheelchair-bound and on oxygen, while

Hogan is St. Louis area's version of Stein-

man, having won just one of the past 11

races he entered, with about half being

for U.S. Congressional District 2. Gonza-

les, a securty guard, may also be follow-

ing in Steinman's footsteps, this being

his third run for a third unrelated office.

That this bill was enforced by the pre-

vious administration, and the Democrats

said nothing at the time (and only care

about it now), reveals some real truths

about the Democrat Party. Democrats

cry and protest about the ICE enforcing

the very law they overwhelmingly help-

ed pass, and made not a peep over dur-

ing the PREVIOUS administration (you

know, the DEMOCRAT administration!),

but now, under a different administra-

tion...OH, the wailing and gnashing of

teeth! When in control, they ignore and

sweep any obvious abuse under the rug

like it never happened--instead of cor-

recting it! This, my friends, is...

TEXTBOOK HYPOCRISY.

“Freedom is never more than one gen -

eration away from extinction. We did

not pass it on to our children in their

bloodstream. It must be fought for,

protected, and handed on to them to

do the same.”

Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of

the United States of America

The Missouri Supreme Court has sent

Grain Belt Express back to the Public

Service Commission for a re-hearing,

who will likely grant the multi-million

dollar private corporation authority to

use eminent domain to take a 200 foot

strip of land across the entire width of

north Missouri to build a high voltage

direct current transmission line.

County landowners and local property

rights advocates are up against well-

funded Texas-based millionaires and

(Continued, Page 4)

all voting in favor of it - Public Law

107-296 (In their reply to MadCanuk,

Snopes--I can not confirm this but have

little reason to, as the vaunted Snopes

deemed it fit to include in the article).

That being the case, of the 48 Demo-

crats in the Senate, the minimum num-

ber would be 38 of 48 in favor--and

higher if any other members of any oth-

er party voted against. This means over

79% of Democrats supported this bill.

The Democrats supported this legisla-

tion, and while they did not pass it, they

did nothing to stop it.

Going further into the legislation, we

get these definitions, from the law itself:

(1) The term “placement” means the

placement of an unaccompanied alien

child in either a detention facility or an

alternative to such a facility;

(2) The term “unaccompanied alien

child” means a child who –

(a) has no lawful immigration status in

the United States;

(b) has not achieved 18 years of age; and

(c) with respect to whom,

(i) there is no legal parent or guardian

in the United States; or

(ii) no parent or legal guardian in the

United States is available to provide

care and physical custody.

If the parents are being detained for

illegal entry, they are as "available to

care" for their children as any convicted

felon serving time is "available to care"

for their children. Where is the cry over

the separation of children from their

parent(s) there?

But, truth is not the friend of liars (aka,

hypocrites).

Snopes lied when it said that the Demo-

crats did not pass a law they definitely

did help pass with their support of 79%.

(that is hypocrisy on Snopes' part)

(Continued, next column)

“Hypocrisy is the contrivance of a false

appearance of virtue or goodness, while

concealing real character or inclina-

tions, especially with respect to religious

and moral beliefs; hence in a general

sense, hypocrisy may involve dissimula-

tion, pretense, or a sham. Hypocrisy is

the practice of engaging in the same

behavior or activity for which one criti-

cizes another. In moral psychology, it is

the failure to follow one's own express-

ed moral rules and principles. American

political journalist Michael Gerson says

that political hypocrisy is 'the conscious

use of a mask to fool the public and gain

political benefit.'[3]” Wikipedia

Current examples are rife today, especi-

ally with the party that follows the Saul

Alinsky method of “accuse your oppo-

nent of what it is that you actually do."

Today, Democrats decry the “plight of

immigrant children,” deliberately leav-

ing out the term “illegal" – to obfuscate

the real issue, of course.

When questioned, Snopes says that the

Democrats did not pass this law. The

following is from their website: “ Public

Law 107-296, “H.R.5005 — Homeland

Security Act of 2002.” A primary claim of

the meme was that the legislation in

question was passed “by the Democrats.”

But, in fact, the bill was passed by the

107th Congress in November 2002. The

107th Congress met from 3 January 2001

until 2 January 2003, during which time

the September 11th attacks occurred in

the latter part of their first year. On the

date of Public Law 107- 296’s passage

(25 November 2002), Senate.gov provid-

ed its majority as Republican, not Demo-

crat: Majority Party (November 12, 2002

– January 3, 2003) - Republican, 50 seats;

Minority Party - Democrat, 48 seats;

Other Parties - 2; Total Seats = 100.

Replying to @MadCanuk and 3 others:

"MadCanuk, this is only happening to

illegal immigrants. And for those out-

raged, this law was passed in 2002 in the

Senate by a vote of 90-9. The likes of

Clinton, Feinstein, Schumer, Biden, Reid(Continued, next column)

Greetings, sons and daughters of the

American Revolution—of all stripes

—across this fruited plain. Whether you

are "Feeling the Bern" or want to "Make

America Great Again," or have some-

thing else in mind, there’s a whole lot of

nastiness going on and we have to figure

out how we’re going to all live together

after we throw the bums out. Let's talk.

We really do have a whole lot in com-

mon. This great experiment we call

America belongs to all of us—and we’re

not happy with what has been done with

it. We see the powerful, rich and well-

connected in BOTH parties taking real

good care of themselves, but failing US

at every turn. They lie to us, take our

stuff, sink us in debt, tell us what to do,

spy on us, try to shut us up and get rich

while they are doing it. Then they tell us

it’s all for our benefit! We are ready to

overturn the apple cart, and we have

every right to do so. After all, it's OUR

apple cart to begin with, not theirs! We

are finding out the enemy is not each

other – but rather a rigged government

that controls the whole game for their

benefit, and uses power that is rightfully

ours to control the hell out of us all.

But let's think long and hard about what

comes after the fog of revolution clears.

History teaches us that, not only can na-

tions go from bad to much worse, they

usually do. The day after, you'd better

have a plan everyone can live with—one

that actually works. Anger is a good mo-

tivator but a lousy destination. So how

do crazy-different folks not tear each

other apart, but live together in peace?

There can be no taking America back for

“our side” or making “the other side pay”

for the wrongs we think they have done.

Nobody gets to run re-education camps.

Domination and retribution, then re-

verse domination and reverse retribu-

tion, will never end. It just gets more

and more repressive and ugly as teams

change. "My government bully can beat

up your government bully" is no way to

live. Let's agree to stop pushing each

other around. It's quite possible for us

all to get along just fine—as long as we

can agree on a couple of basic things:

(Continued, next column)

1. We let each other be who we are-gun

nuts and tree huggers, Bible thumpers

and pot heads, macho men and flaming

queens, granola and Twinkie eaters

alike. Tolerance may be an overused,

misused word, but true tolerance is ex-

actly what we need. Tolerance is not

being forced to act as if you like people

or ideas that make you want to barf. It's

really an agreement—a 2-party contract

that says I may think you’re nuts, and

maybe I can't stand you, but you have a

right to live your life as you choose:

think and speak your mind and worship

God in your own way. I will defend your

right, even though I don't agree with

you. IN RETURN, you have to defend MY

right to be a pain in YOUR rear as well.

It's a creed that really works in the long

haul and beats the hell out of pushing

each other around from here to etern-

ity. Not only does it work, but it makes

life a lot more interesting. We should

work on being able to agree to disagree

and not get bent out of shape if some-

one has wildly different ideas than we

do, or wants to live life in a way we nev-

er would—as long as we leave each oth-

er alone to live that kind of life. Hey, we

might even learn a thing or two from

each other. The folks that started this

crazy thing called America pretty much

had this plan, and despite some unfortu-

nate detours, it has worked really well.

2. When we had finally had enough of

the King George abusing us, we had a

few radical universal truths to lay on the

whole world. And they NEED to be re-

membered by everyone at all times!

Each person is supposed to be EQUAL

and have the SAME value and rights be-

fore the law. We ALL have a birthright,

just because we exist, to our own LIFE,

our own LIBERTY (aka freedom) and our

own PROPERTY; as well as the right to

go about finding happiness and mean-

ing on our own terms in our own life.

The government is us – it is not OVER us.

It is of the people, by the people and for

the people, only suppose to do the mini-

mum required to protect our ability to

do our own thing in our own lives and in

peace. That’s really about it. So what

do you think? Sound like a good place

to start after we throw the bums out?

high dollar lawyers, so looks like the

deck is stacked against local interests.

Obviously our state thinks less of our

property rights than Iowa, who declared

GBE's sister company a merchant trans-

mission company that is not entitled to

utility status or eminent domain author-

ity. Likewise, the Illinois Supreme Court

ruled that GBE's sister company there,

"Rock Island Clean Line," is not a public

utility, and thus not entitled to public

utility status either.

GBE lured towns and cities looking for

cheap wholesale energy with a paltry

500Mw estimated to serve an approxi-

mate 200,000 homes and save $10M in

energy costs annually, a savings of a

little over $4 a month per household for

less than 10% of Missouri's households.

Would anyone besides GBE call that

enough of a benefit to Missourians to

warrant awarding power of eminent

domain to a private company poised to

make billions annually?

PSC's technical staff is charged with in-

vestigating the claims GBE presented to

them. Apparently, GBE's claims have

not proven to be factual and or of suff-

icient benefit to warrant utility status,

and PSC staff has never recommended

approval to the Commissioners in all

previous GBE applications. Unfortu-

nately, PSC Commissioners are not

bound by the recommendation of the

staff. Three Commissioners who are

confirmed to favor approval to GBE

against recommendations are appoint-

ees of former governor Jay Nixon--the

same Jay Nixon who served as legal

counsel for GBE in the appeal process. It

does not look good for the land owners

of northern Missouri: after the state of

Kansas stupidly gave GBE utility status,

they changed their route across Kansas.

So much for property rights standing up

against eminent domain.

A Cole County judge has ruled that it

was okay for new Governor Parson to

appoint former Senator Mike Kehoe as

Lieutenant Governor to fill Parson's

vacated former position.
