HOMECOMING

Homecoming week is a time of the year most stu-dents look forward to. The excitement begins a week before when the cheerleaders put up posters in the hallways of the themes for spirit week.

On Monday, the halls filled with red, white, and blue. ‘Merica Monday was a new theme and seemed to be a popular one. “I really enjoyed the 'Merica day. Yes I was in a suit made of the flag, but it did not seem like a joke or just a laugh. To me it was a day to show appreciation to our country and our Veterans. I loved how every-one showed up in the right clothes to express that,” said sophomore Jeffrey Sokol. Walking into the school on Tuesday morning, the faces of people might have looked different. Grand-parents day brought gray hair, walking canes, and hunched over bodies. Different characters roamed the halls Wednesday. People dressed up as charac-ters from Disney princesses to Miley Cyrus to Forrest Gump. And it wouldn’t be spirit week without a “viking pride” theme. Students wore black and gold Thurs-day to show their school spirit. That night, students, coaches, athletes, and parents gathered in the bleachers of the football field for the homecoming pep rally. After the coaches and players of the fall sports spoke, it was time to announce the homecoming king and queen. But before the royalty

could be crowned, the 8 candidates participated in some fun ‘n games. They were challenged to run across the wet football field wearing a hat and mus-

tache, riding a foam horse, while trying to rope the hay bale. After the games, the people waited anxiously to hear the announcement of the king, Dakota Rader, and queen, Allison Beckmann. The faculty homecom-ing king was music director, David Shackewsky, and the queen was Spanish teacher Tara Martin. Homecoming night kicked off under the Friday night lights. The students filled the student section to cheer on their fellow football players. After a Viking victory, students migrated from the field to the old gymnasium for the homecoming dance. The theme for the dance was Wild, Wild North-west. Students arrived in their plaid, denim, and boots attire. There was a photographer there to take pictures of couples and to capture funny pictures in the photo booth. While singing along to the music, students danced the night away with their friends in hopes to make it a night to remember. “I had a great time at homecoming, there was some major dancing going on and the music was pretty good. I hung out with a fun group of people and it was a good night. Definitely made my senior year memo-rable,” said senior Sarah Topinka.

STAFF ROYALTYAt the homecom-ing pep rally Thursday night, the staff king and queen were announced; as it was vocal music teacher David Shackewsky as the king, and spanish teacher Tara Martin as the queen.

THE KING AND QUEENSenior Allison Beckmann was crowned as the queen along with senior Dakota Rader being an-nounced as the king of the homecoming court. They were crowned during the homecoming pep rally.

DANCING AND LAUGHINGDuring the home-coming dance Friday night, Freshman Kayla Ensz-Darrough laughs with freshman Emma Pearson while they dance along with their other friends.

SWING YOUR PARTNERSenior Hannah O’Malley shared a smile and laugh with her date as they dance to a country song. Hannah dressed for the occasion, wearing her boots and denim to go with the country theme of the dance.

JACKIE MOONBefore the football boys performed a dance during the pep rally, they were announced by their nick-names. As junior Jackson Evans was announced as “Jackie Moon,” his fellow team-mates broke into laughter.

AFTER THE CROWNINGAfter Allison Beckmann was announced as the homecom-ing queen and the other three queen candidates recieced their court medals and flowers, they gathered together for pictures after the pep rally.
