Advanced Drawing & Design 10 or 11 Course #8438 Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks Students use a graphic language for product design and technical illustration. They increase their understanding of drawing techniques learned in the prerequisite courses. They research design-related fields while identifying the role of advanced drawing and design in manufacturing and construction industry processes. They apply the design process, analyze design solutions, reverse engineer products, create 3-D solid models using CADD, construct physical models, and create multimedia presentations of finished designs. They complete a work portfolio based on a chosen graphic project. Students may actively participate in a student leadership organization, TSA. Uniform, resources and fees may be required. Architectural Drawing & Design 10 or 11 Course #8437 Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks Students explore architectural design foundations and increase understanding of working drawings, construction techniques, and codes regulating building design. They learn the design process and apply the elements and principles of design to architectural projects through producing models and illustrations of all aspects of building, students create architectural design solution using CADD (Computer aided drafting and design. Automotive Body Technology I & II 11 &12 Course #7102/8676– I Course #7014/8677– II (Meets every day)

Total 6.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year transportation program, where students can develop the art of taping, sanding, priming, mixing, and applying paint to become an automobile body technician. All students will have an opportunity to participate in a work environment and seek national Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Students may also actively participate in a student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. Uniform, resources and fees are required.

Automotive Technology I & II 10 or 12 Course #8506 – I Course #8507 – II Total 6.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year program designed to offer students the fundamentals of automotive engines, engine repair, and electrical systems. Internship opportunities and preparing for the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification are provided. Students may actively participate in a student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. Barbering I, II & III 10 or 12 Course #8740 – I Course # 8741 – II Course #8742- III Total 6.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year program, designed for students to focus on the study of hair, scalp, and skin. Students develop skills in a clinical setting, using mannequins, and live models for manipulative practice. This program emphasizes safety, sanitation, communication, management skills, ethics and professional image. Students with required hours will also be able to prepare to take the Virginia Barbering State licensing exam. Students may actively participate in a student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. Beauty Salon Assistant 9 -12 Course #8546 Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks This is a one year exploratory course where students focus on skills necessary for cosmetology and barbering careers. All students are required to participate in career experience opportunities and seek a VDOE CTE credential. Students may actively participate in a student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. Building Management I & II 10 - 12 Course # –8590-I Course # –8591-II Total 4.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A one year program in which students can obtain advanced knowledge and skills to perform the upkeep of commercial and public buildings and grounds through hands-on-training in cleaning operations, building repairs , plumbing and grounds maintenance. Career experience opportunities and seeking an approved VDOE CTE credential are provided. Students may actively participate in a student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. Students develop basic skills needed to enter into the carpentry field. Students receive instruction in measurements, hand and portable power tools, and the essentials of light construction. Students will gain career experience and earn a CTE credential. Cosmetology I & II 10 or 12 Course #8527 – I Course #8528 – II Course #8529 -III Total 6.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year human service program, in which students build on their theoretical foundation of general sciences and practices in cosmetology to increase proficiency in hair cutting and styling on live models, with attention to professionalism, client consultation, safety, and infection control. Students are trained in safe chemical processes related to permanent waves, relaxers, soft-curl permanent waves, land coloring hair. In addition, students learn to care for skin, hands, and feet, developing experience in providing facials, manicures, pedicures, and nail enhancements. Students who successfully gain the adequate classroom instruction and on-the-job training hours will be eligible to take the Virginia State Licensing Exam. Students practice safety and sanitation, apply nutritional principles to food preparation and perform a wide range of more advanced food-preparation techniques. Students gain experiences related to computer animation by solving problems involving 3-D object manipulation, story boarding, texture mapping, lighting concepts and environmental geometry. Technical Drawing is a semester course were students learn the basic language of technical design, while they design, sketch, and make technical drawings, illustrations, models, or prototypes of real design problems. Students develop spatial ability as they apply mathematical concepts to visual representations. The course is especially recommended for future engineering and architecture students. residential, commercial, and industrial electrical and cabling systems. All students can participate in various career construction environments and seek approved VDOE CTE credentials. After completing this program: Entrepreneurship and Advance Entrepreneurship or Technology Robotics Design Emergency Medical Technician I& II 11 Course #7166/8333– I (CC) Course #7167/8334– II (CC) Total 4.00 RPS credits 36 weeks 12 JSRCC College Credits A two year health science program where students age 16 and older can explore and apply the fundamentals of emergency medical services, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology while demonstrating skills in assessing and managing patient care, including assessing the scene and understanding shock, resuscitation, and trauma. Supervised field experience outside of school hours is required. Successful completion of first year course and instructor endorsement qualifies students to enroll in EMT II. Students will concurrently be enrolled in the Emergency Medical Responder program and will be

eligible for additional national certification. Students may actively participate in student leadership organization, HOSA. Entrepreneurship Education & 11 or 12 Entrepreneurship Education, Advanced Course #9093 – (1st Semester) Course #9094 – (2nd Semester) Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A one year work based learning program designed for highly competitive students to develop and implement a business. Preferred for students who have completed a CTE specialty program. All students are required to gain entrepreneurship experience through school or business community settings. Fire Fighter I & II 11 or 12 Course #8705 – I (CC) Course #8706 – II (CC) Total 2.0 RPS credits 36 weeks 6.00 JSRCC College Credit (CC) Fire Fighting I is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world and, therefore, requires complete discipline and attention to achieving the academic and professional standards necessary to successfully fight live fires, address hazardous-materials incidents, and conduct search-and-rescue operations. Students will become familiar with eh procedures, equipment and technologies used by current fire departments. This course challenges students academically, mentally, and physically and meets the standards of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) leading to fire certification. Students must be at least 16 years old by the first day of the course offering. Enrollment requires parental consent. Additional requirements include CPR, HAZMAT operations and Mayday Awareness are stipulated for those students seeking Fire Fighter I certification. Students may actively participate in student leadership organization, Skills USA. Uniform, resources and fees are required. Fire Fighter II - This course builds upon the professional knowledge gained and skills taught in Firefighting I. Students respond to simulated hazardous-materials incidents and conduct rescue operations, including vehicle extrication. Students react to multi-faceted situations (e.g., caused by simulated terrorism, accidents, and natural disasters) by managing resources such as medivac helicopters, emergency medical personnel, technical rescue teams, and community-based organizations. Students will become familiar with the procedures, equipment, and technologies used by current fire departments. This course challenges students academically, mentally, and physically and meets the standards of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) leading to Firefighting II certification. Prerequisite: Firefighting I Graphic Imaging 10 or 11 Technology I & II Course #8660 – I Course #8661 – II Total 4.00 RPS credits 36 weeks

A two year completer program that introduces students to digital file preparation, image capture, color theory, digital file output, press operations and bindery operations. Students practice workplace safety and develop skills in measurement, mathematical problem solving and interpersonal communication. College credits are only earned by pursuing a degree at ECPI. All students are required to participate in career experience opportunities and seek an approved VDOE CTE credential. Students may actively participate in student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. Landscaping I & II and /or Entrepreneurship and Advance Entrepreneurship Human Anatomy & 10 - 11 Physiology Course #4330 Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks This college course gives an explanation of the chemical and physical phenomena underlying the structure and function of systems of the human body. In addition, this course provides detailed explanations of the functions of the human body not covered in biology and develops basic knowledge of physiology as represented by the latest advances. Scientific research is required. HOSA membership, career experiences and seeking an approved VDOE CTE credential are required. Introduction to Animal System 9 - 11 Course #8008 Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks Students develop competencies in each of the major areas of the Animal Systems career pathway including animal nutrition, reproduction, breeding, care, and management. Students learn agricultural mechanics applicable to animal systems. As with all agriculture courses, students will be exposed to principles of leadership and opportunities within student organizations along with Supervised Agricultural Experience opportunities. Introduction to Engineering Design PLTW 10 - 11 Course #8439 Total 1.00 RPS credits 36 weeks Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Using computer-modeling software, students learn the design process. They solve design problems as they develop, create, and analyze product models. A major emphasis is placed on the production of a portfolio that showcases examples of student's original work. Students will design landscapes and install components, including lighting, hardscapes, and water features within an environment of the landscaping business enterprise. Students explore various areas of law (e.g., civil, criminal, family, real estate, estate, and probate) while preparing for employment in the legal field. Students gain knowledge and skills in legal document preparation, office communications, legal terminology, client services, records management, financial records, and business ethics. Successful completion of this course may lead to an entry-level position in a law office, court office, law enforcement agency, corporate legal department, or to postsecondary education. This is a non-clinical Business sequence course with emphasis on various work environments and

Medical Billing and Coding I & II 11 – 12 Course #8388 I (1st semester) NEW Course #8389 II (2nd semester) Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks Students will become familiar with the health insurance industry and legal and regulatory issues. Students will learn the principles of medical coding and billing related to reimbursement, claim submission, and payment regarding ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding systems. Students will consider the impact of fraud and importance of biomedical ethics. Students will be introduced to healthcare systems, how to manage an office, and the electronic medical record as it pertains to the field of medical coding and billing. Students will be exposed to the medical terminology used to describe human anatomy and physiology. Students will also, be introduced to the field of health informatics. Nurse Assistant I & II 11 or 12 Course #8360 – I Course #8362 – II Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks 8 JSRCC College Credit A one year completer program where students develop the knowledge and skills needed to become a nurse aide. Students are required to prepare for the nurse aide state board exam. Students who successfully gain the adequate classroom instruction and clinical hours will be eligible to take the Virginia Nurse Aide Certification Exam. Pharmacy Technician I/ II 11 or 12 Course #8035 - I (CC) Course #8306 – II (CC) Total 4.00 credits 36 weeks 12 JSRCC College Credit A two year completer program where students will explore the basics of general pharmacy, reading prescriptions, symbols, packages, and pharmacy calculations as well as learn measuring compounds of drugs, dosage forms, drug laws, and drug

classifications. All students are required to gain career experience and seek the required Pharmacy Technician Certification State Board exam. Precision Machining Technology I & II 10 - 11 Course #8426 – I Course #8427 – II Total 4.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year completer program where students have the opportunity to increase their skills in applying precise measurements, using engineering drawings and sketches, and applying metalworking theory in order to safely and efficiently plan, manage, and perform general machine maintenance and machining jobs. Principles of Engineering PLTW 10 Course #8441 Total 1.00 RPS credit 36 weeks Students study the historical and current impacts of engineering on society as well as ethical implications. Mathematical and scientific concepts will be applied to fundamental engineering topics including mechanics and electrical circuit theory. Additionally students will develop an understanding of engineering problem solving. A major emphasis is placed on the production of a portfolio that showcases examples of student's original work. After completing this course: Introduction to Engineering Design Public Safety I & II 10-12 Course #8700 – I Course #8701 – II Total 2.00 credits 36 weeks One year completer program designed to expose students to procedures related to law enforcement and firefighting occupations, including learning the history of the criminal justice system; policing skills; the rule of law; crime scene investigation; the role of the courts; communications systems; first aid and CPR techniques; protective devices (e.g. sprinklers); the history and fundamentals of the fire service; rescue procedures; and procedures for using personal protective equipment (PPE), the self-contained

Course content also includes instruction in the tools, equipment, and facilities for small animal care, and provides activities to foster leadership development activities are encouraged. Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSE) is a computer science course for high schools students. Students work in teams to develop computational thinking and problem solving skills. Structured activities progress to open-ended projects and problems that build project management, documentation, and communication skills. Students in the course use several programming languages to foster computational thinking and creativity and to build excitement about computing. Students also learn about the impact of computing across all career paths and consider societal issues raised by computing. TSA membership, career experiences and seeking an approved VDOE CTE credential are required. first aid/CPR/AED, exercise physiology, and biomechanics. Students study basic human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, legal and ethical issues in sports medicine, and career preparation. Uniform, resources and fees may required Television Production I & II 10-12 Course #8688 – I Course #8689 – II Total 4.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year completer program where students learn the operation of television production and skills related to producing, directing and scripting programs. After completing this program: Entrepreneurship and Advance Entrepreneurship Veterinary Science 12 Course #8088 VS (2nd semester) Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks Veterinary Science enables students to acquire the employability and technical knowledge and skills needed to succeed in postsecondary education as well as in a career in veterinary medicine or a related occupation. Course content integrates application of academics, development of career competencies, and instruction in course-specific knowledge and skills, such as the use of tools, equipment, and facilities related to veterinary medicine. Business management, leadership, and FFA activities are included in the course. Students enrolled in the course should have a strong background in math and science and should be familiar with small animal care. This welding capstone course teaches the industry’s emerging technologies and how to demonstrate Gas Tugsten Arc Welding (STAW) and Shilded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) pipe tests. Students are prepared to earn relevant industry credentials toward employment in production or manufacturing facilities. After completing this program: Entrepreneurship and Advance Entrepreneurship

This systematic approach to word building and term comprehension is based on the concept of word roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Human Anatomy & Physiology Grade 10 Course #4330 Total 2.00 RPS credits 36 weeks This college course gives an explanation of the chemical and physical phenomena underlying the structure and function of systems of the human body. In addition, this course provides detailed explanations of the functions of the human body not covered in biology and develops basic knowledge of physiology as represented by the latest advances. The course is taught by a Virginia Union University professor on VUU campus. Dental Assistant I & II 10 - 12 Course #8328 – I Course #8329– II Total 4.00 RPS credits 36 weeks A two year health science program that prepares students for dental careers and/or postsecondary settings. Students will be able to gain laboratory experiences, safety instruction, and realistic career experience opportunities. Supervised field experience outside of school hours is required. Successful completion of first year course and instructor endorsement qualifies students to enroll in EMT II. *Architectural Drawing & Design Grade 10 Course # 8437 Total 1.00 RPS credit 36 weeks A two-year program where students in grades 11-12 gain knowledge and skills needed to become a draftsperson. Knowledge of Windows based environment in helpful. Students must have strong math and reading skills. A major emphasis is placed on the production of a portfolio that showcases examples of student's original work such as community-based building and design projects. TSA membership, career experiences and seeking an approved VDOE CTE credential are required. Prerequisite: “C’ or better in Algebra I to be considered for this program.

*Principles of Engineering (PLTW/STEM) Grade 10 Course #8441 Total 1.00 RPS credit 36 weeks Students study the historical and current impacts of engineering on society as well as ethical implications. Mathematical and scientific concepts will be applied to fundamental engineering topics including mechanics and electrical circuit theory. Additionally students will develop an understanding of engineering problem solving. A major emphasis is placed on the production of a portfolio that showcases examples of student's original work. TSA membership, career experiences and seeking an approved VDOE CTE credential are required. (Pre-Calculus is a prerequisite for Digital Electronics)

*Advanced Architectural Drawing & Design (PLTW/STEM) Grade 11 Course #8438 Total 1.00 RPS credit 36 weeks Students research design-related fields while identifying the role of advanced drawing and design in manufacturing and construction industry processes. They apply the design process, analyze design solutions, reverse engineer products, create 3-D solid models using CADD, and create multimedia presentations of finished designs. Throughout the course, they hold seminars, meet engineers, and tour technical design firms in order to learn about the benefits of the course on their future study and career. Completion of this course may contribute to the student’s preparation for the AutoCAD 2000 certification examination.
