2020 I ISSUE 28 I TERM 3 I WEEK 10
Relieving Principal’s Message Hello RRHC Community,
As we come to the close of Term 3 2020 I wish to thank all students, staff, parents and carers, families and our community for their hard work, help and support in the time I have been Relieving Principal. I know that our new Principal Dot Panaretos is stepping into a very special school as she begins her journey at RRHC in Term 4.
In all my years in education, 2020 has undoubtedly been a year we all will never forget, as the world as
we know it turned completely upside down. As a country, a community and individuals we have battled
drought, fires, floods and a global pandemic.
Today we faced the sad farewell to one of our ex students, Eddy Allen, with many from our school
community attending Eddy’s funeral in person or watching it via live stream. Eddy was much loved by the
RRHC community. He was a larger than life character who will be greatly missed. Please be sure to seek
additional professional support for your children, or yourself, if they, or you, are finding this time
overwhelming.
I encourage all students, staff, parents and carers and families to take a well deserved break from their
regular routine in the holiday break. Rest, rejuvenate and be kind to yourselves and others as we prepare
for the final term of the year.
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the continued hard work by all staff at RRHC. We have a unique school
where many staff go above and beyond to support our students, as could be seen yesterday in the
innovative Year 12 Graduation Ceremony. There are too many extraordinary staff to mention individually,
however, a huge thank you needs to go to Stacy Clark and John Eakin who have both relieved in roles this
year to enable me to relieve as Principal.
Thank you and I look forward to continuing my RRHC journey when returning to my Deputy Principal role
next term.
Belinda Marr
Relieving Principal
I particularly want to acknowledge our HSC students as they have faced many challenges in their final
school year. I congratulate all of Year 12 for their tenacity, resilience and commitment to the completion
of their HSC studies. Their outstanding work, service to the school and community, excellent sporting,
music, drama performances and outstanding major works are to be commended. I was able to speak at
their graduation yesterday, and Year 12 should be rightfully proud of their achievements. As a cohort,
Year 12 are characterised by strength, uniqueness, compassion and friendship. We are indeed fortunate
to have many high quality, responsible and respectful citizens ready to enter our community as young
decision making adults.

This will be my last addition to our school newsletter. I am working towards my retirement and am finishing at Richmond River at the end of this term.
My message remains the same as it has for the last few years.
How you support your child's learning makes a difference to their learning outcomes. Your encouraging words of "Have a good day", "How was your day?" " When is that assignment due?" "How are you going with it?" make a difference to your young person's attitude to what they are doing.
Schools are places to be proud of. They are building our future. They are steering our young people's path ahead. Or as I sometimes think of it, these kids will be caring for me in my old age. We need good kids who will take the world we are giving them and make it better. Schools are working on it!
My time here at Richmond River has been a rewarding one. I see teachers and support staff working to bring out the best in students in as many ways as they can. I see school staff working feverishly to adapt to constantly changing circumstances in order to continue the process of educating their students. I see staff supporting students to cope with as wide a range of challenges as anyone could think of. I see teachers reflecting on their own practice to ensure that they are using the best possible strategies to educate their charges. In all these and many other challenges, it is the collegiality that has been a constant. Working together is what makes success as it always does.
I feel it has been my privilege to be a part of 2020 at Richmond River High Campus. I wish students, staff and parents and carers peace in these disturbed times, success and happiness for the future. I am grateful for my time here and will think of RR with great affection.

From the TAS Faculty CO2 cars Students in Year 8 have been learning about engineering principles and the design process in TAS lessons this term. In pairs students were tasked with making a CO2 powered dragster out of a piece of balsa wood. Students learnt about aerodynamics and weight reduction, and were then tasked to create the fastest car possible. All students really enjoyed this task especially racing the cars. Congratulations to Hannah, Ben, Austin and Ozzy for creating the fastest cars. Ben Miller, TAS Teacher
Sport When normal sport was occurring twenty two students chose mountain biking for school sport. These students got to explore the local community and visited the South Lismore BMX track along with the Lismore Skate Park. All students were using the GT mountain bikes purchased by school for sport and PDHPE.
From The PDHPE Faculty Dixon Cup The annual Staff v Students Dixon Cup was held in Week 9 with a twist. All activities had to be 'COVID compliant'. After three days of competition, Staff retained the cup with a tight 2-1 victory over the students.
On Monday in our first COVID safe Volleyball game Staff defeated the students in 2 sets to 1 after the match was locked at 1 set all. On Thursday Staff claimed the cup with a 4-3 victory in Kick Tennis. Staff raced out to a 3 nil lead before students hit back to make it 3 sets a piece and sending the game to a decider. Friday saw a consolation match of volleyball being held. Again, Staff raced out to a lead before students won the next two sets to take a little bit of pride with them. John Eakin PDHPE Teacher
