Pink Finns Fundraiser Thank you to all the parents/carers who donated cakes and sweets to our Pink Finss Day which was held on Thursday, 31 May. It was wonderful to see all the students buying their recess and dessert for lunch in support of Pink Finss. Pink Finss is a Hawkesbury grown charity, who support Women and their families within our local community with their financial needs, the organisation also raise awareness about Cancer. Each year, at our Carols on the Green, Pink Finss supports Richmond Public School by donating the BBQ free of charge. It is great that we recognise Pink Finns within our community and return this support. On Thursday 31 May, we raised $806.80 for Pink Finns. The cheque was presented to the Pink Finns Organisation on Thursday, 7 June by our School Captains. Great work Richmond Public School! Richmond Public School – Nut Free With the prevalence of anaphylaxis within schools, I would like to remind families that Richmond Public School makes every attempt to be a nut free school. I kindly request that parents/carers do not send their children to school with peanut butter sandwiches, with peanuts or with any nut related item. Our school canteen is very careful with this policy and makes every attempt to purchase items that were not processed on a machine that was used to make a peanut product. I thank you in advance for you co-operation with this very important policy.

Kiss and Drop Zone and Bus Zone – Please be careful. Our ‘Kiss and Drop Off Zone’ appears to work well for most families. However, there are some drivers who are still parking between the ‘No Parking’ times. A traffic ranger has been walking around the perimeter of the school fining people for traffic infringements. Parking in a ‘No Parking’ zone can result in a fine of more than $300. As a reminder, the 8.30 – 9.30am NO PARKING zone means that you can stop, but cannot be more than 10 metres away from your car for a maximum time of 3 minutes.

In addition, we have had some families parking across driveways of our neighbors or across the crossing on Francis Street to allow for their children to get out of their car and cross at the crossing. While it is great practice for the students to cross at the crossing, parking over the crossing and stopping is illegal and with Parking Officials monitoring the school lately, it would be a shame if our families received infringement notices. Congratulations to our Hunger Buster Canteen! (Reminder) On Tuesday 29 May, Hawkesbury Council completed their annual hygiene/cleanliness inspection of Richmond Public School’s Hunger Buster Canteen. The inspector was very impressed with all aspects of the canteen and stated that he wished all school canteens were like our Hunger Buster Canteen. He rated the canteen 5 stars under his inspection guidelines. Well done to Heidi Johnson, our Canteen Convenor, and her wonderful team in the canteen!!

2018 – 2020 Strategic Directions (Reminder)

Richmond Public School’s Strategic Directions for 2018-2020 are now finalised, endorsed by the Director, NSW Public Schools and are now up on the school’s website. The Strategic Directions set productive targets, titled Processes, which are to be implemented at Richmond Public School within three years (2018-2020). Some Processes may only take a year to implement but the consolidation of these processes will take three years. Below are the productive targets (Processes) for Richmond Public School: Quality Teaching and Learning • All learning environments clearly define visible

learning and display expected learning intentions/goals in classrooms.

• Student data reflects all students achieving the expected one year's growth in literacy and numeracy, per year, regardless of their starting points, across all learning areas.

• NAPLAN and school based data reflect > 50% of Year 3 and 5 students in the top 2 bands.

• All staff use data of student movement through learning progressions, to inform their teaching practice and differentiate learning with evidence of effective use of assessment tools.

Student and Staff Welfare • Individual Learning / Behaviour Plans for

students with identified needs are implemented and written in consultation with students and parents/carers.

• Professional Learning (PL) Teacher Identified hours for Accreditation Maintenance is evident across all teaching staff.

• Leadership opportunities are provided for staff seeking to build their capacity.

• Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Data < 4% of student population in the intensive prevention target group.

Community Participation and Engagement • Quality communication with families. • Evaluation of 'Tell Them From Me' surveys. • Orientation satisfaction and feedback. • Increased parental/carer attendance at school

based information sessions, forums, student celebration days and community events.

Evacuation Drill (Reminder) On Wednesday 30 May, Richmond Public School’s staff and students participated in an Evacuation Drill. Drills such as Evacuation and Lockdown are carried out each year for the safety of all concerned. The process for all staff and students is that they are to evacuate their classroom and assemble at the Emergency Assembly Point located alongside Windsor Street. Attendance is checked of all students, staff and visitors to ensure the school buildings are clear. Our drill on Wednesday, 30 May was very successful with all buildings cleared in 3minutes 42seconds. In Term 3 the school will be participating in a Lockdown Drill. Report Cards (Reminder)

Presently, teachers are working on the end of Semester One Report Cards. The Report Cards reflect the work that has been treated thus far into 2018 and is stated in terms of outcomes. The Report Cards will also indicate your child’s level of achievement from ‘Experiencing Difficulties’ to ‘Working Beyond’. In Literacy and Numeracy, your child will receive an overall grade from A – E. A student achieving all outcomes will receive a ‘C’ grade and this should be celebrated within your homes. Report Cards are to go home on Wednesday 4 July, 2018. There are no Parent / Teacher Interviews in Term 2. However, if you have concerns regarding your child’s progress, please make an appointment with the classroom teacher through the office.

Helpful Hints for Home Facts about Fractions If you’ve forgotten 3/5 of primary school maths and 7/8 of high school maths, what’s left? Ah ha! Kids need help learning how to add fractions too. The only thing left is to print these fact sheets. Find out more: https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/eppcontent/glossary/app/resource/factsheet/4013.pdf
