'What does it mean
to be British?'
In assembly last week, we shared our ideas on ‘identity’ and learned about the important British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
We also made connections between these five values and how they exist within our school. An example of such is our class elections for School Council. The representatives, chosen by us, are able to speak freely about things we would like to see changed and discuss ways forward.
In our PSHE books, we have a map, highlighting our British values and space to write down where we see more examples around us.
Without these values we would live in an unfair and horrible place.

Open Morning
We open our doors even wider than usual on Saturday 17th
November and welcome hundreds of visitors who wish to get a
flavour of our lovely school. Keep your eyes peeled for letters
asking for parent and student help - far better adverts for RGS
than us teachers! It’s a wonderful day to celebrate and reinforce
our ‘RGS Family’ - teachers, parents, students, office staff,
caretakers, cleaners, catering staff, governors, support staff and
more, all contributing to, and enhancing, the fabric and feel of
school. Everyone is welcome!
Half Term
How on earth is it the end of October already? The glorious
sound of leather on willow still echoes in my ears, yet the
autumnal leaves tumble to the floor (and mainly into Lambton
reception!)…and…its half term! It’s been a wonderful start to
the academic year in so
many ways and, of course
tricky in other ways – a
heartfelt thanks to parents,
children and staff for all the
help and support they have
given to school. So enjoy
yourselves over the break,
whatever adventures you
embark upon – I’m keen to
hear what you get up to!
Mr Miller
PS Thanks to Mukesh and
Priya (parents of Meghna and
Pranay M) for supplying the
photo!

BUSY TIMES!
I couldn't resist
snapping this shot last
week.
It's not even 8.00am
and Lambton Road is full of cars. Busy parents getting
their kids to Mr Miller and Mr Cragg's soccer club.
Whilst it would be wonderful if everyone could walk to
school, I'm so pleased that we have dozens of
youngsters getting their dose of exercise before
lessons. What a school! Mr Craig
BOTTLES NEEDED!
Art Club will be completing an exciting art project using plastic bottles next half term. If you have any empty plastic bottles big or small please leave in the art room on the first week back after half term. Many thanks Mrs McCulloch
LOST IN TRANSLATION?
Last week after Dr Spencer’s lunchtime Eco Club, one of the children kindly presented Miss A Noble with one of the enormous courgettes that had been picked. Miss Noble said, “Wow! That’s a corker!” The child (looking mystified) replied, “No. It’s a courgette!” Oh how we giggled! Miss Gravely

Answer to last
week’s puzzle: 11
Mathtastic at the Centre for Life
It has been great to see the children so enthused with their maths. The event provided a variety of puzzling challenges including the Tower of Hanoi and triangular solitaire. In addition, the robotics exhibition was a real eye opener and higlighted how far we have come in the field of robotics. Definitely worth a visit if you have the time. Mr Lloyd
LOST PROPERTY
Akshara Saranga (4W) has lost her named
blazer and Daniel Beale (6M) has lost a black StartRite
school shoe, size 1.
Please can we all keep a look-out for these missing items.
Thank you.
U11 HMC Hockey Champions 2018
It was a beautiful sunny day for the U11 HMC Hockey Tournament
this year and despite the late arrival due to some bus trouble the
girls got stuck in quickly into their games. Both teams had 6 matches
to play with the B team playing in the plate competition and the A
team in the Cup competition. The B’s fought hard in their matches
coming up against some
tough competition but
with some great
defence and goals
scored finished in 4th
place.
The A’s battled hard, particularly in defence and after drawing their
first two games started to play some excellent attacking hockey. They
won all their remaining games finishing the tournament without
conceding a single goal, and the team were crowned the winners of
this years competition!
A great effort by all the girls involved – well done!
Miss Sunderland
YEAR 6 FOOTBALL MATCH REPORTS
Y6 Football (Bob Maddison Cup) v Sacred Heart On 17th October, the Y6 ‘A’ team played Sacred Heart. It was a good, fair game and everyone played well. With the help of some great saves from Ben Ponton, we won 6:1! Well played, everyone!
Y6 Football v Ponteland Middle School On 18th October, the Y6 ‘A’ team played Ponteland Middle School. Ponteland played very well and we lost 6:2, despite playing well ourselves. Ben Ponton deserves a special mention because, after hurting himself, he got back up and made some amazing saves.

Friday Café
Friday 19th October saw us presenting the first Friday Café of the year. A musical presentation with 22 performers, all of whom were awarded a 'Highly Commended' in the recent heats for the House Music Soloist. A wide
variety of music, ranging from Diabelli to The White Stripes and a whole host of genres in between, was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole school, with many parents in the audience. We were also treated to a Hallowe’en performance of Time Warp by the Dance Club, led by Miss Richardson. What a wonderful way to end the week!
