Sacrament of Reconciliation Confessions are heard the first Saturday at 4:00 PM at St. Ambrose and the first Sunday at 8:15 AM at St. Michael, or anytime by appointment. Communal Recon-ciliation services are celebrated during Advent/Lent. Sacrament of Baptism Please call the rectory to make arrangements for the celebration of Baptism. Sacrament of Marriage Engaged couples must contact the parish priest at least six months in advance of the intended wedding date. Marriage preparation includes sessions with the Priest and with a Sponsor Couple. Sacrament of Confirmation Confirmation is celebrated every two years in the fall. Preparation sessions for candidates and sponsors are mandatory. Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick Anointing of the Sick is available upon request. Please notify the rectory when parishioners are hospitalized. Communal Anointing is held each Spring and Fall. The Eucharist is distributed regularly to the homebound by the Priest and Eucharistic Ministers.
Sacrament of Holy Orders Men who are discerning a vocation to the priesthood or permanent diaconate are invited to call the rectory or the Diocesan Vocation Office (330-744-8451). Women discerning a call to religious life are invited to call the rectory or the Diocesan Vocation Office. Religious Education Classes PSR and Youth Ministry (September through April) Sundays 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the J. A. Garfield Elem. School (CCD) and St. Ambrose church hall (Youth Ministry). Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Adults desiring to become Catholic are invited to participate in the R.C.I.A. The “R.C.I.A. Adapted for Children” is for children in the third grade or older who have not been baptized or celebrated their first Eucha-rist. For more information, please contact the rectory. Parish Registration New parishioners are asked to please call or stop by the rectory to register. If you are changing your address or moving out of the parish, please notify us. Bulletin Deadline Please submit all articles for the bulletin no later than Monday of each week.

Prepare the Way Saint John the Baptist appears on the scene today as Advent enters its second week. The mysterious consumer of locusts and wild honey, John echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah as he calls for repentance in the face of the nearness of the kingdom of heaven. The rhythms of the Christian life are often confounding. Each year we meet the Baptist and hear his calls for repentance. Each year we see him pointing to the one who is coming after him, the Lord Jesus. Yet each year the words and actions of John the Baptist echo anew in our hearts, because we have fallen into old sinful traps again and again. Advent gives us the opportunity once again to turn away from our sinful ways and embrace the gospel way of life. Advent Communal Penance Serv ces The Portage County Deanery will be holding two Advent Communal Penance Services: St. Ambrose (Garrettsville) this Monday, Dec. 5 St. Patrick (Kent) this Tuesday, Dec. 6 Each service will begin at 7:00 p.m. All parishioners are invited to attend any of the services. Priests from all ten parishes of the county will be present to celebrate the sacrament.
Holy Day - Immaculate Conception This Thursday, Dec. 8, is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Masses for this holy day of obligation will be on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 9:00 a.m. (SM) and 7:00 p.m. (SA).

PSR and Youth Ministry Classes resume today, Sunday, Dec. 4 at 10.00 a.m.
“Friends Of Melana” The Social Action Committee and our PSR program are again sponsoring a collection of new, small stuffed animals to be distributed to nearby children’s hospitals this Christmas. Please leave original tag on animal. Animals can be brought to PSR from Nov. 6 through Dec. 11 or placed under the “Giving Tree” in the church vestibule. This project is in memory of Melana Matson.
Pennies From Heaven This year, as in the past, we will be collecting “pennies” to purchase gift baskets for our St. Ambrose homebound parishioners. We will be collecting money at PSR from Nov. 6 through Dec. 11. We are requesting that each child donate one dollar. This will total over $100.00 and we can purchase some very nice gifts. Please be generous!

Looking for a New Year’s Eve Party! The Women’s Auxiliary of the Mantua Knights of Columbus Council #3766 is planning to have a New Year’s Eve/Reverse Raffle party on Saturday, December 31. Live Nat vity The Women’s Auxiliary of the Mantua Knights of Columbus #3766 is presenting a drive-through Live Nativity on St. Joseph Church grounds Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, Dec. 16, 17 and 18, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Participants include Scouts, 4H members, PSR students, members of the Women’s Auxiliary, Mantua Knights of Columbus, as well as members of St. Joseph Parish. Come join us in caroling, celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, and have a cup of hot chocolate to keep warm. Admission is a donation of $5.00 per car load and non-perishable food items are also appreciated. Proceeds from this event will help with church repairs.
