TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

WE ARE TO TAKE UP OUR CROSS EACH DAY AND

FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST

Today’s Gospel emphasizes what is required to follow Christ. We must set aside our selfish desires and take up our cross each day to help build up the kingdom of God. This involves sacrifice. Rather than conforming to what is popular in our present age, we must strive to do what is god and pleasing to the Lord each day.

"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there

be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life?" - Mt 16:24b-26

VOCATIONS

Every vocation involves some degree of suffering and sacrifice. However, in Christ, all suffering leads to glory. Let us not allow the thought of suffering or sacrifice to deter us from our vocations. Are you being called to be a priest, deacon, brother or sister? Humbly ask the Lord. . If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Father Andrew Lauricella at 847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories on our website– www.buffalovacations.org.

JUST A REMINDER

Please inform the rectory when you are moving. If the envelopes are sent to your old address and returned to us, the post office charges us return postage for each pack of envelopes returned. If there is an error in the name on your envelopes, please call the rectory at 892-1746 so we can make corrections

CARE FOR CREATION CORNER

As Pope Francis reminds us, “Nature cannot be regarded as something separate from ourselves or as a mere setting in which we live. We are part of nature, included in it thus in constant interaction with it.” The Earth is in crisis. We need to embrace behaviors that reflect our concern. The following is a suggestion to become more energy efficient: during the summer months, close your curtains to block heat from the sun. This simple step can significantly reduce the need for air conditioning.
