Raw denim serves as a tabula rasa for everyday life. Over process of work and wear, the fade becomes akin to the host and serves as a fingerprint of individuality, time and progression. Balt.co is a menswear retailer

and bespoke service that aims to rekindle the relationship between denim and working man.

Before the widespread acceptance of jeans as a medium for fashion, denim was popular amongst factory workers as durable trousers. Originally named Serge de Nimes, (in French, meaning, Serge from Nimes, France), this cotton twill textile poses a distinct diagonal pattern that will serve as a common design element throughout Balt.co. Now situated in Hazelton Lanes, an upscale shopping center in Yorkville, Balt.co will meet

the standards of it’s affluent market by esteeming both quality, service and design in all its aspects.

Tailored to the modern Renaissance man, Balt.co aims to reintroduce the art of raw denim into the wardrobe of young, professional working men. This individual prizes the pursuit of climbing the corporate ladder without the expense of poise, character and integrity. His fervent personality compliments his eloquence in speech and just one conversation with him can promise an introduction of something new. He is never found without a book and his mind is an archive of passions he frequents, all the more ready with a pen in hand to ask, “what’s next?”. Balt.co believes the blood, sweat and tears put into hard work should be rewarded with something that is a testament of dedication and individuality. As the process wears on, the fade that develops become an

imprint of his body through his aspirations and achievements.

Drawing inspiration from the process of fading and molding denim through wear, Balt.co’s interior is designed in the same fashion. We know shopping isn’t always a man’s forte, so it is important to us that we provide a space that facilitates a comfortable, immersive and enjoyable retail experience. Glimpses of classic luxury menswear design features like fine millwork is juxtaposed by more contemporary themes such as large glazing. The directionality of the dropped slat ceiling is taken from denims characteristic twill weave – one that runs diagonal to the horizontal and vertical threads that are essential to denim’s longevity. As your raw denim develops with every visit, so will our space. The materials and textures present are meant to take abuse – not

to be concealed, but to illustrate the beauty of wear and tear.
