Results of Survey Regarding Future ASCTS Meetings

A t a Council meeting of the Society held by telephone hook-up in April 1991, it was decided to conduct a postal survey of all members to determine their views about future meetings of the Society. A questionnaire was circulated to all members seeking their views about the scope, location and timing of meetings of the Society over the next two years.
4. Should the ASCTS hold a scientific meeting in late 1993 involving Asian cardiothoracic surgeons?

Of 41 members, 29 (71%) responded. The results are given below:

In 1992 there will only be a thoracic surgery component to the RACS-GSM in Canberra. There will be a major meeting with the Cardiac Society in Melbourne in August 1992.
3. A scientific meeting should be held in 1993 in conjunction with Asian cardiothoracic surgeons.
This survey strongly supports the concept that the Society should have a broader scope of activities rather than just negotiations about fees. It is more compatible with the idea of the Society as a group with activities catering for all the needs of cardiothoracic surgeons, and membership extending beyond Australia and New Zealand.
