Survey Report of Cancellation regarding the Pneumonia Associated with the Novel Coronavirus

１． PURPOSE After the first report from Wuhan, China, on December 31st, 2019, there are a coronavirus outbreak in

China. The first case in Japan has been confirmed on January 16th. On January 23rd, the airport in Wuhan has been virtually closed, and public transportation systems have been halted. And more, China announced a ban on outbound group travel and that caused cancellation in Japan.

Kutchan Tourism Association (KTA) conducted the survey to accommodation companies in town to know the number of cancellation.

２． SURVEY RESULT KTA conducted the survey to all 525 accommodations in Kutchan town, which registered in Kutchan

Public Health Center. Till February 16th, we received answers for 345 accommodations. (65.71%)

※ The number of cancellation might be not only the reason of coronavirus. Some accommodations cannot figure out and

report the number of all cancellation.

※ The number by rooms is converted by 2~4 ppl depending on the room size.

※”The number of guests last year” includes all guests, not only foreigners but also Japanese.

Compared with 1st report by January 31st, the number of cancellation is gradually increasing. The influence to Niseko area still seems restrictive on this report. However, some experts insisted that Coronavirus will be prevalent more on March and the influence to Niseko’s tourism might continue.

Because the outbreak of Coronavirus happened the season for Chinese new year holiday, there are a lot of
