8. Additional thickness of 20mm of Lime plaster as per the original thickness of the plaster

9. Stitching of cracks using stone lintels (50x150x1000mm)

10. Recycling old wood dismantled from the building for restoration purposes

Wooden beams have been replaced with brick masonry inlime mortar to pack the vacant space.The wooden beam is carefully pulled down and the vacantspace is cleaned and washed.After cleaning, the consolidation of brick wall is carriedout with new brick masonry in lime mortar.This intervention would further prevent structural damageto the building due to wood decay.

Crack stitching with granite lintel (50mmx150mmx1000mm).The crack is opened up, the loose masonry is removed and thenthe void is washed properly with a jet sprayThe granite stone is then placed carefully in the void.After the insertion of granite block, the crack is tightly packed withbrick and lime. A nozzle is inserted for further grouting

Old decayed wooden lintels were carefully dismantled from the openingsafter propping them,and replaced withnew, chemicallytreated wood.

The picture shows the application of anti-termite paint onthe wooden lintel of size (6’’x4’’x7’).

Planks are screwed (8mm ø; 2’’ long screws) onto thewooden rafters.Wooden flooring after the completion of fixing floorplanks to the wooden rafter frame below.

After the restoration of damaged wooden rafters, woodenfloor planks are laid over the structural frame.

Planks are joined together with a tongue and groove jointat the ends.

Application of final finish of smooth lime plaster (niru maal) onthe dome.

1.5’’ thick rough lime plastering was applied as the firstlayer on the external surface of dome after carefulremoval of cement plaster.

The 2nd layer of lime plaster is ¼ ’’ thick.

A solution of slaked lime mixed with water, saras(animalfat), jaggery, surkhi(brick powder) and marble powder isprepared as a grouting solution, which is poured on theground so that it gets into each crack in the floor.

After 1st layer of grouting, a thin layer of waterproofingcloth material is laid on the ground, over which anotherlayer of viscous grouting mixture is laid uniformly.

The first layer of kappi is compacted well, using wooden batsto repeatedly strike the ground.

Mixture of lime and brick bats are laid evenly on ground andcompacted well. The first layer of kappi (lime concrete) is4’’ thick overall and 2.5’’ thick towards the drain.

After the completion of waterproofing, gunny bags are laid overit and water is sprinkled all over, to keep the waterproofing wetthroughout in order to prevent cracks.

2nd layer of lime concrete (3’’ thick) is laid over the 1st layer.Through repeated compaction, the surface is given an even surface, with a clear slope towards the drain.

MATERIAL MATERIAL PROCUREMENT/ PROCESSING

1. Lime Preparation of niru maal on siteThis is a type of fine plaster which is applied over mota maal (which is the rough first layer of lime plaster on any surface).Niru maal is applied for final smoother finish on surface.One truck load of lime ordered in March

2. Wire cut bricks

Bricks have been cut on site as per desired/required size for various on site construction/consolidation works

3. Beam The irregular edges of the beam were chiselled off and were given a sharpedge. The wood was treated and processed to give a finished look.

Preparation of beamfor oval room- The damagedbeam would beconsolidated usingwooden pieces ofrequired sizes andfurther joinedtogether usingSS clamps.- It would be furtherheld together with ametal capping.

3. Beam Fixing of all the partsof the beam togetherto complete thecomposite beam forthe western oval room

Anticorrosive paint is applied on thebeam and once it dries, SS clamps arefixed with screws at the consolidated end,to hold the joints together.
