SUNSMART - HATS We are encouraging all families to start the search to find school hats as the

weather (every-now and then) starts to warm up. It is extremely important to

have hats available at school before the end of term. The school needs to

support the use of sun protection measures when the UV index levels are 3 or

higher. In Term 4 the ‘No Hat No Play’ policy will be followed at all times. Hats

can be purchased from Bendigo Uniforms Plus or a Navy Blue Bucket/wide brim is fine.

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL We love the fact that kids like to be at CGPS each day although we do have some concerns

around what time some students are attending early in the morning. We remind parents

and carers that staff are not on duty until 8.30a.m. Classroom’s will open at 8.45a.m. and

children will then remain inside to start their day.

Please respect this request as it connects directly to the safety of all children.

TERM THREE CONCLUSION A friendly reminder that next week is the last week of Term 3. Don’t

forget that our school day will conclude at 2.15pm, on Friday 20th

September. Please note that After School Care will not operate on

the last day of term.

Arts and crafts were back in vogue this week as the children spent a lot of time building, creating and making different items. The children built tall towers with our construction toys, with Keira building a tower that was taller than she was. Holly and Noah used the various plastic containers, boxes and stationery that we have in the After School Care room to build items in-cluding a fake coke bottle and a model air plane. The children also used the PlayDoh to create different bowls and patterns. Outside of our room, the most popular activity was creating paint with the rocks in the bush area. The children learnt how to do this with Kath last week. After creating the paint, the children have been decorating rocks, and themselves, with in-teresting and complex patterns and designs. It has been great to see the children’s skills developing and even more so, that they are working with each other to help those who did not work with Kath last week.

A reminder to parents and guardians that there is NO After School Care on the last day of the term.

Have a great week,

Josh Jump Off Day - Friday September 13th 2019

Our Jump Off Day is tomorrow, Friday, September 13. We have all been practising our skipping skills at school and at the same time we are supporting the Heart Foundation to help fight heart disease. To help us raise funds, you can create your own secure webpage at jumprope.org.au and send the link to family and friends. There are prizes to be earned and you can check these out on the brochure that was sent home three weeks ago or online.

GREAT TIPS FOR HEALTHY KIDS TIP 12 WEIGHT CONTROL APPLIES TO KIDS TOO About one in every four Australian children is overweight. You might think it’s puppy fa, and that as kids grow they'll lose the extra weight. This may be true for some children, but research shows that overweight kids are more likely to become overweight adults. This can lead to a whole lot of health problems, some of them very serious. Being overweight can affect the way kids see themselves. Sometimes they are teased or bullied by other children, and they may be too self-conscious to take part in physical activity, which makes matters worse.

What you can do NOW Start being more active today - take your child for a walk to

the shops or around the block. Go through the cupboards and fridge, cleaning out any high-

energy foods, particularly those high in saturated fat and sugars.

If your child feels uncomfortable about their physical skills or appearance, be supportive and encouraging.

Good Idea!

Give kids gifts or toys that require physical activity, like skipping ropes, balls, bats, bikes or skates.

Top Tip

Excessive weight is caused by a combination of too little physi-cal activity and a diet high in energy (kilojoules). If you aren’t sure whether your child is overweight, ask your family doctor, the school nurse or an-other health professional to check it out m and ask them for advice.

EASY WEEKEND LUNCH IDEA ENGLISH MUFFIN PIZZAS!

Ingredients (per muffin):

1 English wholemeal muffin each,

cut in half

1 tablespoon of tomato paste

1/4 cup low-fat cheese

1/4 cup sliced pineapple (canned or fresh)

2 slices of shaved lean ham

Handful of each: mushrooms, spinach, tomato, olives, capsicum

Method:

Put pre-sliced English muffins face up on a baking tray.

Place the cookie sheet and bowls containing the other ingredients on the table where the

kids can easily reach them.

Show the kids how to spoon some tomato paste onto the muffin and

how to add the other ingredients. Then let them have fun making several mini pizzas. They might like

to make “funny faces” with the ingredients.

When they are done, put the baking tray in an oven

preheated to 180C degrees or under the grill under the

cheese turns golden brown.

WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS??? Do you have lots of plastic grocery bags taking up valuable storage space in your home? A member of our school community is collecting plastic grocery bags to make sleeping mats for the homeless. If you have excess plastic grocery bags (I’m sure many of us do) they can be brought to the school office for collection to make more sleeping mats. Not only are we providing a soft place for a homeless person to sleep—we are also recycling those unwanted plastic grocery bags!!
