Welcome to the November edition of Re:Sourcing UK - the Resource Bulletin from Link2Energy Ltd.

The purpose of this document is to instigate opportunities for companies with industrial waste streams, puttinginnovation at the heart of finding solutions to industrial problems.

Note - if you have any waste resources that arecausing a headache for you, then please bringthem to our attention and we'll list them in thebulletin.

WRAP On-Farm AD FundThe On-Farm AD Fund has been developed to help farmers inEngland get financial support to build small-scale AD plants. - The 1st part is a grant up to £10,000 to investigate theenvironmental and economic potential of building an AD plant. - The 2nd part is a capital loan up to £400,000 (or a maximum of50% of the project cost). This is available for AD plants producingup to 250kW of power.

Cleaning Up Pulp PollutionThe issue of water pollution by waste from the wood, pulp andpaper industries is being addressed by the Institute of PhysicalChemistry in Warsaw. Removing cellulose & phenol derivativesmay be easier in future due to the use of low cost andeasy-to-produce photocatalysts. An amount of prepared powderis poured into water polluted with phenol & cellulose. Followingexposure to the sun, the pollutants disappear.

Fertiliser From Sewage StruviteA new technology that creates phosphorous-based fertiliser fromsewage could hold the key to securing future global foodsupplies. A £2m nutrient-recovery reactor, the first in Europe, isnow producing sanitised fertiliser from the waste water comingout of Slough. This sustainable source of phosphorous, the keyingredient in fertiliser, is a welcome alternative to miningphosphate rock from dwindling, non-renewable reserves.

That's Grit NewsThe new edition of the WRAP Protocol on the Recovery ofAggregates from Waste allows sand & grit from water treatmentworks to achieve End of Waste status for the first time. Thechange stems from the allowance of the mineral fractionrecovered by MBT (EWC 19-12-09) to be used as feedstock foraggregate recycling, provided it is substantially free from theorganics and other contaminants.

Collection Targets For WEEE Schemes

From January 14 WEEE compliance schemes will have to meetmandatory collection targets under new plans set out in thegovernment’s response to the consultation on bringing therequirements of the recast WEEE Directive into UK law.

We are gearing up for our November workshop inthe Humber region - as we enter our second year, the plan is to make the workshops bigger and better- with more varied content. More importantly, we arenow offering subscribing members more chances todo presentational slots at these events.

We are looking for an environmentally friendly way to dispose of unwantedfreezer cabinets. These particular cabinets are ones containing a specific foam insulation -Polyurethane which uses Cyclopenthane as the blowing agent. The foam insulation makes up circa 5% of the freezer cabinet weight.
