Even the brightest minds begin as young raw talent very similar to how even the

tallest trees start as young saplings.

What is important is the strength of roots, the foundation that continually nourishes

and helps touch the sky.

Resonance is that strong root for you, dear student. Resonance nurtures you, our

young sapling, through focused programs and dedicated as well as expert faculty so

that you too may stand tall and taste the ripened and sweet fruits of success.

Strong Roots, Ripe Fruits: About ResonanceIn Physics, resonance is the tendency of a system to oscillate with

larger amplitude at some frequencies than at others. These are

known as the system's resonant frequencies. At these frequencies,

even small periodic driving forces can produce large amplitude

oscillations, because the system stor es vibrational energy.

Resonance was recognized by Galileo Galilei with his investigations

of pendulums and musical strings beginning in 1602.

Mr R.K. Verma, a B.Tech. from IIT-Madras, 1994 Batch; being a

Physics Teacher himself chose to name his first edupreneaurial venture

as ‘Resonance’. Resonance came into being on 11th April, 2001 at

Kota as the preparatory institute for IIT-JEE; the toughest entrance

examination for admission in coveted engineering institutes i.e. IITs.

The institute was named as Resonance with the commitment to

enhance the benefits of teaching up to the greatest level of satisfaction

of students and to bring them in the frequency band of teacher so that

the scientific phenomenon of resonance becomes a reality.

The initial focus of the institute was to provide objective-centric

classroom contact coaching education in a systematic and conducive

learning environment for the challenging examination like IIT-JEE. In

the beginning; this coaching was aimed at students of Class-XI, XII &

XII+ but later on, the backward integration started from Class-X to

IX, VIII and then VII. The programmes for these classes were

primarily intended towards developing competitive quotient

amongst the students at early age. To enhance the reach of

Resonance’s well-researched Study Material, Distance Learning

Programmes were also started to cater to the need of students staying

in all parts of the country. In a major lateral diversification strategy,

the last academic session witnessed launching of Classroom Contact

Programmes for other popular entrance examinations like AIEEE &

AIPMT.

Going with the winds of change and understanding the importance

of technology in education, Resonance has also launched its e-

Learning Programmes Division (eLPD) in 2010. The e-lear ning

initiative shall further enhance the r each of Resonance’s educational

products & services from national to global students fraternity.

Like a strong root that supports and nourishes saplings, we nurture our

students, enabling them to touch the pinnacle of success. Resonance is

all about providing the right tools, environment and direction to a

student and facilitating him/her in achieving more than their dreams.

Delivering outstanding results consistently has become the

distinguishing factor for Resonance. Over the past 10 years, Resonance

has consistently lived up to its promise of facilitating students in

realizing a bright future. We have bettered our programs, deepened

our knowledge base, in line with the need of the time. But one thing

has remained an invariable at Resonance and that is ‘Success’.

Today, Resonance has its own Study Centres offering Classroom

Contact Programmes for IIT-JEE at Jaipur, Bhopal, Delhi, Lucknow,

Kolkata, Nagpur, Mumbai, Udaipur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar and

Ahmedabad under the mentorship of its head quarter at Kota

(Rajasthan). We have also established Information Centres in

Chandigarh, Indore, Patna and Ranchi and forging tie-up/entering

into association with leading schools & corporates. Our belief that

‘Learning that is redundant is no longer knowledge’ fuels us to

constantly update our databank of courses and also take initiatives in

starting new ones.

Inspiring Strong Growth : The Chief Mentor

06

My Dear Student,

Welcome to Resonance.

Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is, not a preparation

for life; education is life itself. Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), a great thinker

and reformer of our country, embraced education, which for him signified ‘man-

making’, as the very mission of his life. To quote him: ‘Education is not the

amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riot there undigested,

all your life.’ Education for him means that process by which character is formed,

strength of mind is increased, and intellect is sharpened, as a result of which one

can stand on one’s own feet.

Over the past 10 years (2001-2011), Resonance has served its students with its

core values as guiding principles. Our core values have been the key to our

success and are the basis for everything we do. These values foster an

environment that keeps our performance focused on the students. Serving our

students is our solitary priority.

Resonance has been known as the sincere institute amongst the students

fraternity because of our dedication & commitment. The successful methodology

of Kota system will be the key driving force in the future as well with our infallible

endeavor for success in IIT-JEE along with other engineering/medical entrance

examinations. To sustain this continuing success, a strong faculty team is always

maintained.

And now, on completion of 10 years of existence in the competitive education

segment; Resonance is going to be ‘reborn’ once again for aspiring students, with

more energy and enthusiasm to perform and make them successful in all walks of

life. This ‘’rebirth’ of Resonance shall reflect in improved academics, more

academic offerings, better academic management, consistent academic quality

control and accountable mentorship to turn out enhanced performance of

students in terms of superior success rates in competitive examinations. The new

philosophy of Resonance, ‘Educating for better tomorrow’ shall guide us to look

ahead and endeavor to create indeed a better tomorrow.

Change is inevitable, growth is intentional. Resonance has spread its wings across

the country through its ‘own’ Study/Information Centres Network to reach every

aspiring student who wants to be successful in various competitive examinations.

The next two-three years might bring in some radical changes in the primary &

secondary education space starting from common syllabus in all boards, board

examinations becoming optional, scrapping of the percentage system and

adopting grading systems, aptitude-based common entrance examinations for

admission into professional institutions and the tech-enabled testing systems

called online examinations. These changes will further enhance the level of

competitiveness for admissions in elite Engineering and Medical institutions in

the country. We have already taken up this challenge and are in the process of

building our system to adopt these changes faster than anybody else.

To develop the technology edge in education space, Resonance is entering into

an academic association with one of the leading IT companies in India, HCL

Technologies to run Live-video Learning Programmes (LLPs) in schools/HCL

Career Development Centres (CDCs) across the country from its state-of-the-art

studios established at Kota.

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength,

not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will, guidance and mentoring. At

Resonance, we are focused on your success. Though change and uncertainty may

be ever present, Resonance remains firmly committed to helping students by

providing academic services to enable them to meet their career goals and

objectives.

We have many trustworthy and supportive students & parents in all parts of the

country and wish to express our appreciation for their continued support and

endorsement of our academic services. In the last 10 years, we have achieved

unprecedented success. I must appreciate, congratulate and thank all our

students & their parents for their belief & patronage to Resonance.

I look forward to serve your highest order of scholastic expectations at Resonance.

Best Wishes,

R.K. Verma

A Brief HistoryMr. Ram Kishan Verma, an edupreneur synonymous with success in cracking IIT-JEE, was born in a small village in the Kota district in

the state of Rajasthan. He excelled throughout his schooling, in himself clearing the IIT-JEE and as an Electrical & Electronics

Engineering student at IIT-Madras. After completing his B.Tech. in 1994, he joined BHEL as a Trainee Engineer.

Following a brief stint at BHEL, destiny brought him into coaching education which at that time was emerging in Kota and he joined a

reputed coaching institute in Kota as part of the Physics Faculty in 1995 and continued there till 2001. Through his sincerity,

dedication and hard work, he earned respect from his students and became very popular amongst the student fraternity, as RKV Sir,

for his in-depth subject knowledge, unmatched teaching skills and passionate aptitude for the coaching profession.

The dream of becoming an edupreneur resulted in the genesis of Resonance, founded by Mr. R.K. Verma in 2001 at Kota itself. Since

then, Resonance has taken leaps and bounds forward under his leadership and his persistent quest to take it to the pinnacle of success

& excellence.

1 Academic Team (Faculty)

Faculty constitutes the most innate and intricate part of any

educational institute and Resonance has one of the best faculty

team who themselves have gone under the rigours of the

toughest Engineering & Medical entrance exams and have

passed out of the portals of different Indian Institutes of

Technology (IITs) and top Engineering & Medical colleges. The

faculty is self- driven and motivated to the commitment of

making aspirant realise his/ her dreams. Faculty Training

Programme (FTP) is a ground-breaking initiative in the field of

training for competitive exams. The programme aspires to create

and train as per Resonance teaching methodology and make a

proficient faculty team that will meet the existing and future

requirements of intellectual faculty that are needed in the

Institute in line with the increasing professional challenges and

the contemporary needs of the students. Further to groom and

redefine the coaching skills of the faculty team, Resonance has

evolved a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) under which

continuous enrichment and value addition is done to keep the

faculty members abreast with the changing trends of various

competitive exams and the world beyond.

2 Regular Classes

Resonance conducts daily classroom teaching with a systematised

course plan for timely completion of the syllabus of competitive

exams and keeps the students in touch with the rigorous

curriculum. The planned session of 90 minute lecture comprises

theory, solved-unsolved examples, illustrations, discussion of

daily practice problems and sheets. The class notes taken in the

Regular Classes is the best guiding tool to the students.

3 Daily Practice Problems (DPPs)

It is a set of 8-10 problems regularly given to the students to

practice and concretise the concepts taught in daily classes. The

DPPs are just like practice papers with time and score mentioned

on them to help a student inculcate the ability and temperament

of facing the real competitive exam through practice & revision

of ongoing topics as well as problems in completed topics.

4 Sheet

The package is a typical topic-wise collection of each subject in a

sequential order which are provided to all the students as

printed study material. It comprises condensed theory of the

respective topic followed by assorted problems arranged from

fundamental to advanced level. It aids students for guided and

referential studies at home and to solve problems by themselves.

Teaching Methodology: Ten Vital Nutrients

5 Doubt Discussion Classes

Doubt Discussion Classes empower the student to clarify his/ her

doubts and queries through the mode of discussion with faculty

members at micro-level in one-to-one interaction. These initiatives

help the students to improve their academic performance.

6 Periodic Assessment Tests (PATs)

The Periodic Assessment Test acts as a yardstick to gauge the

level of preparedness of the students and how committed and

willing they are towards their studies. It is an alternate cycle of

Part and Cumulative tests (PTs and CTs) conducted once in a

month. Other tests like JEE Preparatory Tests (JPTs), Major Test

(MT), Full Syllabus Tests (FSTs), All India Open Test (AIOT), AIEEE

Preparatory Tests (APTs) & Medical Entrance Exams (MEEs)

Preparatory Tests (MPTs) are also conducted at the end of the

academic session to give him/ her enough poise and confidence

to face competitive exams.

7 Academic Research & Development (R&D)

Research and Development (R&D) team regularly updates and

enriches the work of Question Bank Development (original/

assorted). On a regular basis, the R&D team analyses the

performance of students through periodic tests and accordingly

develops the academic curriculum for the students to enhance

their performance. The R&D team keeps in mind the needs of

the students and develops new academic products according to

the changing times.

8 Academic Administration and Management

The entire academic year is systematically segmented into different

parts so as to map the planned progress of the student. Proper

planning, execution and supervision of the syllabus coverage,

course planner and test and academic schedule is rightly directed

and channelised by Academic Administration and Management.

9 Academic Performance Analysis

The academic performance of the students is compiled, analysed

and reviewed to help the students know their strengths and

weaknesses. Periodic reshuffling of batches augment the

competitive spirit. Comparative micro and macro analysis of the

performance of the individual student in the test enables the

student to plan and prepare accordingly. These initiatives help

the students improve their academic performance.

10 Co-academic Arrangements

The Institute organises performance enhancement classes,

motivation and counselling sessions to give confidence to

students and give them an edge. Information and assistance for

various competitive exams and Olympiads are made available.

The Indian Institutes of Technology or IITs are the best India has to

offer for education in the field of engineering. They are a group of

15 autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institutes of

higher education established and declared as Institutes of National

Importance by the Parliament of India. The IITs were created to train

engineers and scientists also, with the aim of developing a skilled

workforce to support the economic and social development of India.

In their campuses, students live in a pleasant and intellectually

stimulating environment with people having similar goals and

aspirations, which is an exciting and unique experience. Also, the

credit-based academic programmes in IITs offer the flexibility to

students to progress at their own pace. Today, the IITs are a dream

for thousands across the country and an admission almost

guarantees a highly successful career and life in general ahead.

The admission to the IIT and few other prestigious engineering

colleges is through the Joint Entrance Examination popularly known

as IIT-JEE.

Primary Objectives of IITs

§ To build a solid foundation of scientific and technical knowledge

and thus prepare competent and motivated engineers and

scientists

§ To create an environment for supporting freedom of thought,

cultivating vision, encouraging growth, developing personality

and self-discipline in the pursuit of excellence

§ To kindle an entrepreneurial streak amongst students

“This competition among high quality students in

IITs sets your aspiration high.”

Narayana Murthy, Founder, Infosys

“It's hard to think of anything like IIT

anywhere In the world. It is a very unique

institution.”

Bill Gates, Founder, Microsoft

The Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination

(IIT-JEE)

IIT-JEE is the common admission entrance test for admissions in the

B. Tech. (Bachelor of Technology), Dual Degree (Integrated Bachelor

of Technology and Master of Technology) and Integrated M. Sc.

(Master of Sciences) courses at all 15 IITs and also at the Institute of

Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Indian School of

Mines University, Dhanbad.

Eligibility

IIT-JEE, probably the toughest examination in the world an 18-year

old has to face, Tests a candidate’s knowledge of Mathematics,

Physics and Chemistry. The success rate is remarkably low. For

example, last year only 13,104 candidates were called for

counseling from among the 4,55,871 test takers.

Students who have completed or are appearing for their 12th

standard examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are

allowed to appear for the IIT-JEE. Candidates who apply in the

General, Other Backward Class (OBC) and DS category must secure a

minimum aggregate of 60% marks in the 12th standard

examinations to be eligible. For candidates applying in the

Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Physically Disabled

(PD) categories, a minimum of 55% marks is compulsory. The upper

age limit for appearing for the IIT-JEE is 25 years and the age limit is

relaxed to 30 years for candidates in the SC, ST and PD categories.

Also, a candidate may only appear in the IIT-JEE a maximum of two

times in consecutive years.

Reservations

As per Government of India rules, candidates belonging to certain

categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed

criteria. For the SC and ST categories 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved

respectively. For candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer),

27% of the seats are reserved. For PD, including leprosy-cured

candidates, 3% seats are reserved in each of the categories (namely,

GEN, OBC, SC, & ST).

Examination Pattern

The IIT-JEE is normally held on the second Sunday of April, every

year. There are two objective papers of 3 hours each having

questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with negative

marking for wrong answers almost a norm. The results of IIT-JEE

are normally declared in the last week of May every year. Students

can then select their institute and department of study based on

what is available at the time of their counseling and the

interviews, spread over 5 days, which follows the IIT-JEE result.
