PROPOSAL FOR RESEARCH WORK AT IIT INDORE The objective of the research is to work towards new frontiers of research and innovation by identifying and creating new disruptive technologies. The whole concept is to work on new ideas- mainly hardware related- without being affiliated to any particular academic section. The approach shall begin with an idea and the aim will be to create a working prototype of it. Below, I have provided the details and objectives of the research work that I intend to do at college. 1. PROJECTS:- The proposed projects shall be divided into two:- ii) INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS:- My objective is to conduct research on 3D printing technology and portable CNC & milling machines (think of the size of a desktop PC). iii) STUDENT PROJECTS:- I plan to float projects over the course of next two months (duration of the summer vacation) for the students of IIT Indore to participate in and work on. The projects shall not be pre-defined and shall be designed and suggested by the students themselves in groups. Ideally, the project shall involve students from all three disciplines (mechanical, electrical and computer science). 2) RESOURCES :- i) LABS: This shall include use of lab machines (mechanical and electrical) for prototyping work. ii) MATERIAL: Material will be required to create working prototypes. 1 Aman Garg

PROPOSAL FOR RESEARCH WORK AT IIT INDORE

The objective of the research is to work towards new frontiers of research and innovation by identifying and creating new disruptive technologies. The whole concept is to work on new ideas- mainly hardware related- without being affiliated to any particular academic section. The approach shall begin with an idea and the aim will be to create a working prototype of it.

Below, I have provided the details and objectives of the research work that I intend to do at college.

1. PROJECTS:-The proposed projects shall be divided into two:-

ii) INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS:-My objective is to conduct research on 3D printing technology and portable CNC & milling machines (think of the size of a desktop PC).

iii) STUDENT PROJECTS:-I plan to float projects over the course of next two months (duration of the summer vacation) for the students of IIT Indore to participate in and work on. The projects shall not be pre-defined and shall be designed and suggested by the students themselves in groups. Ideally, the project shall involve students from all three disciplines (mechanical, electrical and computer science).

2) RESOURCES :-

i) LABS: This shall include use of lab machines (mechanical and electrical) for prototyping work.

ii) MATERIAL: Material will be required to create working prototypes.

3) FUNDS REQUIRED: - An estimate amount of funding required is mentioned below as per the projects. As the project is meant to be in iterative mode, the estimation is based on several factors: reusable materials(which will require only one time investment and can be used again on separate iterations), disposable material (which will need to be bought again with additional iteration)

i) INDIVIDUAL PROJECT: Rs. 1.5-2 Lakhs.

ii) STUDENT PROJECTS :Rs. 1.5-2 Lakhs

4) WHAT THE INSTITUTE ACHIEVES:--

i) Technologies that are developed can be implemented in use for several other project works.

ii) Also, those same technologies can be used by the students to get hand-on learning, which can be a part of course learning as well.

iii) As has been the case at several other universities with active entrepreneurship cells, certain technologies can even be converted into start-ups. With already a growing entrepreneurship cell at the college, work on new technologies could lead to hardware start-ups originate out of IIT Indore.

iv) Also, these ideas once converted into prototypes can lead to investment from the industry and established start-ups alike for more extensive work.

v) Undertaking of such projects will lead to work on novel interdisciplinary research areas, which shall attract students.

vi) Such projects shall even assist in finding employment opportunities for students ( particularly mechanical) as they get to do more hands on prototyping work, as is required in established hardware start-ups.

vii) In long term, this initiative can lead to active research in hardware technologies.

5) MY EXPECTATIONS:-

i) Presently, I am waiting on my Masters decisions from overseas universities, and want to utilize the next three in some research work.

ii) I expect to cover my basic expenditure of living and food through a small stipend(Rs. 8,000 - 10,000)

iii) During the undergraduate years, I was one the several students who started the E-cell as the means to provide students start-up opportunities. I still want to continue to be involved in the entrepreneurship activities and expand that culture at IIT Indore.

iv) Presently, I plan to stay at the college for at least 3 months, with a possibility of extending that stay.
