I am immensely excited and pleased to invite you all to the 12th Annual Congress of the Hernia Society of

India (HSI), a National Chapter of Asia Pacic Hernia Society (APHS) on 7th & 8th September 2018.

Hernia surgery being one of the common surgical procedures was always considered as a simple and elegant

procedure.

With the theme “Hernia Surgery – Safety First” we will be focusing on one of the very important aspects

concerned with the Hernia Surgery and that is Safety. In this congress, we will discuss the risks involved and

the technical evolutions and advancements in the eld of Hernia repair over time.

The risks involved in Hernia Surgery including recurrence, chronic pain etc. could be managed to a great

extent if the surgeons are extra vigilant and aware of the safety techniques, leading to a better recovery and

relief to the patient. HSI 2018 will talk about all the advancements and update surgeons of the surfacing

concepts in hernia surgery

I am delighted to inform you that HSI 2018, the Annual conference of the Hernia Society of India, is being

organized in Chennai from September 6th - 8th 2018.

Hernia surgery, both open and laparoscopic, is practiced widely today across the country. There are newer

approaches to inguinal as well as ventral hernia which are emerging and growing in their popularity. As

hernia repair is a commonly performed operation, the emphasis has to be on safety and avoidance of

complications. Keeping this in mind, the theme of this meeting will be “Hernia surgery: safety rst” and the

event will focus on risk reduction strategies and optimization of outcomes for various types of hernias.

Some of the highlights of this conference include

• Pre-conference cadaveric course for the rst time in the history of HSI

About Hernia Society of India Hernia repair is one of the commonest surgical procedure performed by surgeons. Over the

past two decades there has been a steady emergence of minimal access techniques for the

treatment of inguinal as well as ventral hernias. In the past few years abdominal wall

reconstruction for complex ventral hernias is making rapid strides. It is essential that surgeons

treating patients with hernias keep abreast with the rapidly expanding knowledge in this eld.

This is the ofcial website of the Hernia Society of India – a national organisation dedicated to

advancing the science of herniology.

Hernia surgery being one of the common surgical procedures performed all over the world, is ever changing

in scientic and technical understanding from what started as a simple and elegant procedure to a

superspeciality - ‘Herniology’. Taking in to account the sheer volume of hernia cases, its varied manifestations

and the complications, most surgeons have their own unique way of tackling the situation in the safest way

which they acknowledge on personal discussion but due to paucity of knowledge sharing and publications

unfortunately they do not reach the lime light. Hence we have rightly planned our theme as “Hernia surgery –

Safety rst”

Abstract DetailsThe Organizing Committee is delighted to invite abstracts for presentation at the 12th Annual Conference of the

Hernia Society of India to be held in Chennai from September 7 and 8, 2018.

Topic classication for abstracts:

1. Antibiotic prophylaxis, infective complications, instrument sterilization

2. Groin hernia (open)

3. Groin hernia (laparoscopic)

4. Internal and rare hernias (Spigelian, lumbar, internal, diaphragmatic)

5. Ventral hernia (open)

6. Ventral hernia (laparoscopic)

7. Ventral hernia (open component separation)

8. Ventral hernia (endoscopic component separation)

The abstracts should be in one of the following categories:

1. Challenging case

2. Point of technique

3. Complication – intraoperative or postoperative

Abstracts submission will be in the form of:

1. Oral presentation (8 minutes + 2 minutes audience participation)

2. Video presentation (6 minutes + 2 minutes audience participation)

3. E-poster presentation (5 minutes and 5 slides – Title (1), clinical history (1), investigations / work up (1), video /

images (1) and conclusion (1)

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

» Abstracts can be submitted only by surgeons who have registered for the HSI 2018 conference

» The abstract should be categorized into one of the categories listed above.

» The abstract body should be limited to 250 words.

» Font style: Times New Roman, size 12, single spaced.

» Abstract should contain the following:

- Background

- Aims & objectives

- Material and methods

- Results

- Conclusion

» Abstract can be submitted only in English.

» Disclosures if any

» The contributor carries legal obligations of the abstract; any violation to a third party’s right will be the

responsibility of the contributor.

Abstract selection & acknowledgement:

» All presenters will receive an email acknowledgement of submission of abstract and of acceptance or rejection.
