ABSTRACT

There is a considerable amount of attention being given to herbal formulationa lower or zero side effects when compared to the synthetic formulations available in the market. The objective of the present study involves the preparation of a herbal oil using coconut oil, olive oil and Tulsi extract and ion hair follicle and its antimicrobial activity. The preparation was also subjected to various tests for analysis including moisture content, total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash, water insoluble ash and sulphated ash. Other physical tests were also conducted like viscosity, surface tension, pH, acid value, etc. and were compared with some synthetic marketed formulations. The herbal hair oil prepared is on par with the marketed ones in quality and in some cases showing better activity marketed formulations which may lead to adverse reactions like hypersensitivity, but our preparation contains no such synthetic preservatives and utilizes the natural antimicrobial activity of herbs for the extension of shelf

RESULTS & DISCUSSIONS

The pH and Acid value of the prepared formulation was found to be similar to the marketed preparations. The viscosity and density was also found to be satisfactory for use. As shown, the hair oil possessed sufficient antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, which increases its potential to combat seborrhea and acne.

CONCLUSION

The herbal oil prepared was found to be a safe product with its pH being in normal range. Acid value was also found to be satisfactory. The antimicrobial properties was sufficiently exhibited. The formulated product was devoid of any potentially irritant synthetic substances like parabens as it consisted entirely of natural substances. Thus the formulation was superior to the marketed brands due to itsof non-irritancy, safety and due to the complete absence of any artificial ingredients.
