ABSTRACT This study is to assess the prevalence rate of Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity and Hypertension

among the population of Nadiad city. The host influences by contributing to the development

of hypertension, diabetes, BMI including cardio-vascular event, obesity, workload, family

history, increase age, living a sedentary lifestyle, malnutrition. On-experiment research

descriptive study design with exploratory survey approach was used the data were derived from

simple random sampling among 1000 population of Nadiad city demographic view, age,

gender. The present chapter is devoted to the presentation of results and their interpretation of

frequency and percentage statistical technique used for analyzing the data have been presented

objective wise from total samples 1000.This community based study demonstrated high

prevalence of hypertension (29.60 % + 27.20 % = 56.80 %) moderate prevalence of obesity

(13.30 % ) among the population of Nadiad city .A nationwide initiative has to start to create

awareness among the people of community regarding the harmful effects of diabetes

hypertension and obesity, with main focus on adolescents and adults .

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY: -

The global prevalence of chronic illness like

diabetes mellitus, hypertension and obesity

is increasing day by day. Diabetes mellitus

commonly referred to as diabetes, is a group

of metabolic disorders in which there are

high blood sugar levels over a prolonged

period. Hypertension is also known as high

blood pressure, is a long term medical

condition in which the blood pressures in

the arteries are persistently elevated.

Overweight and obesity are increasing

problems that lead to significant health and

social difficulties for people. Commonly

defined by a measurement of body mass

index (BMI).

NEED OF STUDY

India is experiencing a rapid health

transition, with large and rising burdens of

chronic diseases, which were estimated to

account for 53% of all deaths in 2005.

Earlier estimates projected that the number

of deaths attributable to chronic diseases

would rise from 3.7 million in 1990(40.4%

of all deaths) to 7.63 million in 2020(66.7%

of all deaths).

1) Diabetes mellitus

Diabetes mellitus has been rising rapidly,

with the country until recently being often

labelled as the ‘diabetes capital’ of the

world. Most recent estimates of the

international diabetes federation (IDF),

report that there are about 65 million people

with diabetes, with projected increase to

109 million by 2035.

2) Hypertension

Hypertension is the leading risk factor for

CVD and accounts for nearly 10% of all

deaths in India. There are currently 20-40%

adults in urban areas and 12-17% in rural

areas who suffer from it.

3) Obesity

Obesity is one of the important risk factors

for non-communicable diseases. Obesity is

a most prevalent malnutrition all over the

world.
