Representation of females

• Our female character is represented to be, stereotypically, manipulative. She has evidently led the victim on as a ‘joke’ and she has her boyfriend as a form of backup. She confronts the victim with control, her boyfriend follows her. However, when she is the victim later in the film, she is conventionally vulnerable. She is alone and small compared to the killer and also has no form of defense on her as she does not even have a bag.

Representation of males

• Males are stereotypically represented and viewed as more aggressive and dominant compared to women. In our film, although the girl teases the victim, it is the boy who pushes him to the floor. Also our killer is a male who shows aggression when he jumps on the victim and ultimately stabs her to death.

Age

• Our beginning sequence of Elimination only shows a young, teenage age group of youths. This is because we wanted to appeal our target audience of 15-30 year olds. Generally young people are seen by older generations as angry, aggressive and disruptive. In our film, the three characters presented to the audience, are all represented as aggressive. The girl bullies the victim, the boy physically hurts the the boy being bullies, and the killer murders the girl who is the victim at the end.

• Originally, the girl was going to have blonde hair because this conventionally represents her to be ‘innocent’ and ‘vulnerable’ as blonde is a light, fair colour. However, we decided for her to have dark hair and the fact that it’s purple suggests that she is rebellious which is a typical teenage trait.
