The scientific, technological or socio-economic reasons for carrying out research in the field covered by the research• Information Access and Retrieval (IAR) and Relevance• Quantum Mechanics (QM) • Uncertainty due to the interaction between the measurement of the

observable variables describing user’s context and cognitive status. • Transferring the scientific research results and expertise from senior

researchers in the utilization of the theory of QM in IAR to the junior researchers


The research objectives of the network

• Information Access and Retrieval (IAR) and Relevance

• Quantum Mechanics (QM)

• Uncertainty due to the interaction between the measurement of the observable variables describing user’s context and cognitive status.

• Transferring the scientific research results and expertise from senior researchers in the utilization of the theory of QM in IAR to the junior researchers

• Geometry: Non-classical methods based on complex and heterogeneous feature vectors in abstract vector spaces

• Interaction and Logic: Non-classical logic to model irrational user behavior.

• Probability: To model the uncertainty caused by the impact of measurement of relevance.

• We addressed the ethical issues in D8.1, 2, 3 through two external advisors recruited by UCPH.

• No further ethical issues so far.


Management meetings

• The representatives of the ESRs at the Ethical and Gender Committee and at the Training Committee have been elected. • The representatives are already operating and organizing the first QYRG

workshop (i.e. the review pre-meeting).

• Meetings at kick-off, workshops and schools.• Regular e-mail for monitoring and acting as intermediary between

REA and consortium.• The Ethics and Gender Committee was involved.• Supervisory Board always connected.

EU Contribution

The overall reduction of the EU contribution is connected to the decrease of eligible PMs and of family charges (compared to planned budget)

The overall EU Contribution isexpected to decrease of about160K€.

Financial aspects


Research, training and networking:

ü average duration of 3 days for each event ü lump sum of 2.000€ (maximum rate) for each

day of the event

Management:

ü average duration of 2 days for each project meeting ü lump sum of 1.500€ (maximum rate) for each day of

the event

Main principles:ü a Party receive additional funding in proportion to the common activities performed;ü a Party give some its own funding in proportion to the number of ESR enrolled for the project.

ü covers the logistic costs of all the shared activities of the projectü is allocated by the Supervisory Board in accordance to the planned activities to be performed

• All the milestones scheduled for the first project period are closely linked to the recruitment process.

• The delay in the milestones achievement was primarily due to problems in granting entry visas.

Critical implementation risks and mitigation actions• Visa granting

• A visa to enter a country is subjected to local regulations and sometimes to uncontrolled variables

• Negative impact on PCDP• Some actions are needed:

• To examine the local rules as well as the closing periods (e.g. Christmas) and times (e.g. time zones) of the local visa centers and consulates

• To back up a secondment by an equivalent plan at another organization • To complement by inviting external visitors (extrema ratio)

• Job contract termination• Internal arrangement following the European Chart of Researchers and local laws• QYRG as an opportunity of discussion and exchange

• PCDP regularly checked.


Any proposed re-orientations of the networks’ activities• Secondment plan rescheduled.


Document management and Open Research Data• ACM and IEEE provide open access:• Widely accessed publishers in Computer Science;

• Especially for conference proceedings.

• Arxiv.org is OA by definition:• Widely used in Physics.
