II. Activities
The flow of activities was as planned in the agenda. Before conducting the training, the participants were informed on the objectives of the training
and performed a pretest which showed the following results:
Marks Pre-test Post -test
Mean mark 14 / 30 (46.6%), 20 /30 (66.6%),
Lowest mark 8/30 (26.6%) 15/30 (50%),
Highest mark 21/30 (70%), 27/30 (90%)
Observations 19 participants got less than mean mark and 1 had
70%
The marks obtained by participants was improved,
9 of them got above 90%.
From Monday to Thursday, the training was conducted in two sessions, theory and practice (handson). Most of the participants were not familiar
with MVA technique and manifested interest in learning this procedure.
6
They were very active and shared experiences on their previous practice related to abortion and family planning. During the practical hours, every
healthcare provider wished to have all required material in their respective health facility in order to help them to practice more MVA and IUD.
Every health center was given one Kit of MVA. They learned the use of MEC wheel which is a very important tool to assist clients in making a
decision for family planning. Participants were provided with a link where they can download the MEC wheel tool. All training material (modules)
were provided to healthcare providers through their email before leaving the training site.
Lesson learnt:
Manage a safe abortion client in a private room to ensure confidentiality, and prevent psychological complications related to the service provided.
One of the facilitators shared his experience on the practice of safe abortion. It was a case of an under 18 years managed in the labor ward while
keeping her in privacy to minimize criticism that can lead to post safe abortion psychological trauma.
