ІВАНО-ФРАНКІВСЬКА АРХИЄПАРХІЯ
ARCHEPARCHY OF IVANO-FRANKIVSK
The Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy has started distributing charitable assistance in the
form of food kits and detergent kits for people affected by the floods. The help became
possible thanks to the support of Metropolitan Borys (Gudziak), Bishop Paul
(Chomnytsky), Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk), Bishop Bohdan (Danylo), priests and the
faithful of the Metropolia of Philadelphia (USA). The first to receive assistance were
victims from the village of Zavadka, Verkhnyanska OTG.
In the coming days, targeted delivery of aid to flood victims will be provided by Caritas
Ivano-Frankivsk workers and volunteers and the MALTA ASSISTANCE SERVICE of
Ivano-Frankivsk. Volunteers of the Malta Relief Service also organized the evacuation of
the flooded premises. (Source: FACEBOOK)

by the floods. This time the food kits and kits of detergents were given to the residents of
Verkhnyanska OTG, namely the village of Verkhnya, Nehivtsi, Humeniv and Zbora.
The help was made possible by the support of Metropolitan Borys (Gudziak), Bishop

Residents of town Tysmenytsia readily tell and show how the flood damaged
property - flooded walls, damaged furniture. Big water flooded their yards
and gardens. People make repairs. However, not everyone can rebuild their
homes. Some simply do not have the funds.
Caritas Ivano-Frankivsk employees and volunteers gave people help in the
form of food packages, cleaning supplies and detergents.
Priests and faithful of the Philadelphia Metropolia collected money for the
residents of Prykarpattia affected by the flood. We thank Archbishop Borys
(Gudziak) and Bishops for their support! Let's hurry up to do good!

"We live in fear," Tysmenytsia residents say of the floods
Stefania Krasnozhon from Tysmenytsia. The woman is 79 years old. She lives with her
son.
His son Volodymyr is 55. He says that he should be on disability. He has a sick heart, he
was not drafted into the army at the time. However, his disability was not recognized.
The man did not work all his life. The state of health did not allow.
Mother and son live on her one pension.
Stefania is not very talkative. The woman despaired of everything and everyone. She
refuses help, saying she doesn't need anything anymore. There is a need, of course, but
due to the hardship that has lasted for years, the woman has lost hope for any help.
More eloquent is her son Volodymyr. The man complains about the rain. "We live in
fear, as soon as it rains heavily, the yard immediately floods, - says Volodymyr, - there
was water in the house, but immediately went down."
Volodymyr needs boards to fix the floor in the cattle room and linoleum to lay the floor
in the house.
Stefania and Volodymyr have enough problems even without floods. The house is old,
cracks on all sides, damaged foundation. The inside also needs major repairs.
Stefania's husband died a long time ago, when he was 40 years old. Volodymyr is the
only son of a woman. There are no grandchildren. The only consolation is a small farm -
chickens and a goat.
……
Caritas Ivano-Frankivsk provided Ms. Stefania with assistance in the form of food kits
and detergents from the Metropolitan of Philadelphia (USA). Bishops, priests and
concerned people gathered to help the people affected by the floods in Prykarpattia with
the help of Metropolitan Borys (Gudziak). (Source: Caritas site - Ivano-Frankivsk)

The last time people in Prykarpattia suffered from floods was in 2008. Now, in 2020,
people are rebuilding their homes after the disaster. The flood caused significant
material damage.
This time, Caritas Ivano-Frankivsk employees handed over help from the Metropolitan
of Philadelphia to the residents of the village of Yezupil, Tysmenytsia district, and the
village of Dubivtsi, Halyts'kyi district. In Yezupil, 30 families received assistance in the
form of food kits and detergents, in Dubivtsi - 16. (Source: FACEBOOK)

CARITAS – IVANO-FRANKIVSK WORKS ON THE FRONTLINES
OF THE FLOOD ZONES IN WESTERN UKRAINE
Ukraine did not have a chance to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, as people in Western
Ukraine again faced a new challenge - due to incessant rains that lasted more than a week, the
water level in the rivers of Western Ukraine rose so much that water overflowed and flooded
homes, utility buildings and agricultural lands of farmers.
Residents of rural areas were most affected by the floods. The water gushed so suddenly that in
some cases the water level in the houses rose in 3 minutes to 50-60 centimeters. In a panic,
people saved their belongings - clothes, house things, documents, pets, etc. They climbed to the
attic or were evacuated from their homes by the emergency services and helplessly watched how
everything around was collapsing, how what had been achieved with such hard work was lost.
"We have just finished making repairs and put the house in order after the floods of 2008," said
Mrs. Svitlana Rudko, a mother of many children from the village of Obolon of Dolyna district. It
was necessary to feed, clothe and teach 10 children, so really a penny was set aside to plaster the
walls, put laminate flooring, buy furniture. Because I wanted the children to have everything
like others. My husband worked non-stop, went to his job, and suddenly got a heart attack. We
had to spend money again to install a pacemaker. Then the disaster befell the youngest son. Now
he has an eye prosthesis, he is visually impaired. It was very difficult. The children were so
happy that finally everything got better and the disaster hit us again. In 2 hours the house was
full of water, which stood for 2 days… Everything is destroyed, but thank God, we are healthy.
And once healthy, we can do everything with the help of people… »
So from the first days Caritas - Ivano-Frankivsk got involved in helping people affected by the
floods. They brought drinking water, organized the delivery of food, hygiene products and
detergents.
Archbishop Borys (Gudziak), Bishops and faithful of the Philadelphia Metropolia, CNEWA from
Canada, partners from Caritas Fulda (Germany) and local Caritas - Caritas Do, responded to His
Beatitude Sviatoslav's call to help families affected by the floods in Western Ukraine: Caritas -
Dnipro, Caritas Lviv, Caritas of Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy, Caritas of Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy,
indifferent residents of Ivano-Frankivsk and Ukraine.
“Now we especially feel the solidarity of Ukrainians living on different continents and around
the world, the unity of Ukrainians in Ukraine, who are in a rush to come to the aid of people in
need,” - says Fr. Volodymyr Chorniy, director of the Caritas – Ivano-Frankivsk. “We see what
successful charitable collections are organized for the victims in Ukraine in the Philadelphia
Metropolia - residents of 26 states of the United States joined the collection organized by them.
We in Ivano-Frankivsk see how people bring clothes, food, bed linens. Volunteers come and help
to pump water out of the houses, clean everything from silt. Trouble unites people, they come
together to help. Thanks to this, we can reach out and help more people.”
Caritas - Ivano-Frankivsk received $ 25,000 in charitable donations from Metropolia of
31 липня 2020 року July 31, 2020
Philadelphia, which was spent on the purchase of 942 food kits, 364 sets of detergents and personal
care products, and 100 sets of bedding. We deliver the purchased kits to the homes of the victims who
live in 7 administrative districts of Ivano-Frankivsk region: Tysmenytsia, Dolyna, Kalush,
Bohorodchany, Rozhnyativ, Rohatyn, Halych.
During this time, while visiting homes affected by the floods, workers assess the extent of damage and
determine the needs of people for major repairs. In total, more than 13,000 houses were flooded in
Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts, so Caritas - Ivano-Frankivsk is now focusing on identifying families or
individuals who cannot manage to deal with the effects of floods due to old age, illness or lack of
funds. As of July 30, 53 affected families were interviewed and their needs for the purchase of
construction materials needed to begin repair work were identified. The next tranche of funds received
from Philadelphia ($15,000) will be spent for repairs.
Maria Vasenda from Halych says: “When the water came into the house, my husband and son and I
escaped to the attic. Fortunately, her old mother Anna Petrivna, a 93-year-old woman, was not in the
house at the time, she is bedridden, and at that time she was in Ivano-Frankivsk with another daughter.
The water was a meter high (three feet high). He says they carried water in buckets. They started
tearing down the floor. The walls are ruthlessly covered with fungus, sometimes cracking. The tiles in
the kitchen also cracked. Almost all the furniture is destroyed. They dry on the street. But they are no
longer usable. "
The woman hopes for help, because there are no funds to renovate the house. "I don't want big
renovations. You see, we live modestly. I would be very grateful if you could help us rebuild the
house the way it was," says the woman, "I don't want extra money, not a penny." Mrs. Maria is
worried because she has health problems. The woman underwent surgery on her leg and it is difficult
to walk. Her husband has Parkinson's disease. He says, “we have problem after problem - the house
was flooded, and when my sister came to help with cleaning, she fell and broke her leg.”
There is still a lot of work to be done - to finish the delivery of food kits, to organize the purchase of
building supplies and help with repairs. Then, the next level - the renovated premises will need
appliances, furniture, without which it is
impossible to return to normal life. All this
encourages us to continue working and finding
new resources. Today we want to express
many words of gratitude to all donors,
organizers and coordinators of assistance to
Ukraine. With your support and help, people
have gained FAITH that everything will be
fine. May the Lord's grace and mercy always
be with all donors!

The Philadelphia Archeparchy helps people affected by the floods in Prykarpattia
On Wednesday, August 12, Caritas of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy donated to the family in
the village of Zalukva of Halyts'kyi district, which was affected by the flood. Due to bad weather,
the house of Hanna and Ivan Glushko's house caught fire. The cause of the fire was a power
failure. The refrigerator caught fire, then the kitchen, the corridor and the door of the next room.
A tragedy occurred in the family that day - during a fire in her room, Mrs. Anna's aunt
suffocated from the smoke. She lived with her husband. The woman was 94 years old.
I was not at home at that time, I just ran to the store for bread, - says the woman, - a neighbor
guy ran after me, said: “Your house is on fire.” I ran home, and here - all in smoke, went to the
porch. , and then could not, the cassettes fell from the ceiling. Even the ambulance workers could
not go into the house, knocked out the windows, but the aunt could not be saved. "
The family received a refrigerator, a gas stove and building materials. Funds for the purchase of
necessary things were provided by the Metropolia of Philadelphia. The money was raised by
bishops, priests and parishioners thanks to the initiative of Metropolitan Borys (Gudziak).
The family was visited by the Syncellus of Social Service of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy
and the director of Caritas, Father Volodymyr Chorniy. He supported the couple at a difficult
time for them and wished the apartment to be rebuilt as soon as possible.
"The floods have caused significant damage to the people of Prykarpattia, we, as a church,
respond to the needs of the people and are sincerely grateful to our donors, thanks to whom we
can help the victims. For example, stoves, building materials are a great help, because people
are left without the most necessary appliances and they need materials to renovate their
homes, "says Fr. Volodymyr Chorniy.

Assistance program to help flood victims
has started in the Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese of the UGCC
Last week, the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy launched an assistance program aimed at helping
the most needy and victims of the floods in Prykarpattia. The assistance includes the provision of
building materials and household appliances, writes the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy.
Employees of the archeparchial administration and representatives of Caritas of the Ivano-
Frankivsk Archeparchy have already managed to provide assistance in the form of building
materials and household appliances for more than 10 families living in Halych, villages of Golin,
Yezupil and Zalukva. In the future, assistance will be directed to another 40 families in the
villages of Spas, Nizhniy Strutyn, Zavadka, Sivka Kaluska, and also Mariampil.
"It is very important that the clergy and the faithful of the UGCC did not stand aside, but
managed to lend a helping hand at a time when many people suffered from the floods in
Prykarpattia," says Fr. Mykola Khomyn, an assistant pastor in the parish of Golin.
In July of this year, a commission of the archeparchial administration conducted visits to homes
and farms affected by the floods in order to assess the damage caused by the disaster. The next
step was to deduct the amount of property damage and establish a list of building materials.
It is worth noting that the implementation of such a project was also made possible by the clergy
and faithful of the Metropolitan of Philadelphia (USA), who in times of disaster showed
Christian solidarity and support by providing financial donations to help flood victims in
Western Ukraine.

Father Volodymyr Chorniy, the director of the social ministry and director of Caritas of
the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy, visited one of the families.
"We try to help those people who really can't cope on their own, we - where there is a
need - says the father - are families with children, and children need proper care, so
appliances for these families are a necessity."
Employees of Caritas and the archeparchial administration have already provided
assistance in the form of building materials and household appliances to more than 10
families living in Halych, village of Golin, s. Yezupil and the village of Zalukva.
Funds for assistance were raised by the Philadelphia Metropolia (USA) with the
assistance of Metropolitan Borys (Gudziak). Let's hurry to do good!

Father Viktor Pryydun, Finance Officer for the Eparchy of Kolomyya, sent me these
pictures taken TODAY in three villages of Ivano-Frankivsk Region: Zarichchia,

ago. On July 2, we wired $10,000 to the Eparchy of Kolomyya to help people.

Father Viktor Pryydun, Finance officer of Kolomyya eparchy, delivered today some drinking
water and food supplies for people living in the three villages of Ivano-Frankivsk region:
Zarichchia, Bili Oslavy and Mykulychyn. But they need much more!
On July 2 we wired $10,000 to the Eparchy of Kolomyya to help people affected by the floods.
The money we sent will be spent to buy food (pasta, rice, buckwheat, canned meat, canned food,
etc) in bulks and be distributed to people especially to large families. Shortly, a video will be
released, in which I will explain all details. (Source: FACEBOOK)

A family of seven (father/
husband) is working abroad)
lives in this house (Bili
Oslavy). The foundation of the
house cracked under mudslides
and heavy rains. They would
have to move or rebuild the
house. As you can see from the
pictures, they did not have
much to begin with. And now
they are facing even more
problems. On July 2 we wired
$10,000 to the Eparchy of
Kolomyya to help people like
this family. Our fundraising
campaign is going on now.
We received email from Father Viktor Pryydun, finance officer of the eparchy, that they
made a list of food for care packages. A package will include cooking oil, pasta, oatmeal,
rice, corn kasha, buckwheat, canned green peas, 3 different cans of fish, sugar, dish
detergent, laundry detergent, two kinds of soap, tea, condensed milk, dry peas. Total is
434 hryvnia or about $16.14. (Pictures of all receipts are included below) They
purchased enough food to make 200 boxes. One hundred boxes will be delivered to
people this Friday. They plan on making and distributing 450 boxes! The Eparchy also
purchased 500L of diesel fuel to delivery vans or trucks. They spent 7,560 hryvnia to buy
400 boxes. All these expenses (450 boxes) will be covered with the money ($10,000) we
forwarded on July 2. How exciting is this? And this is only the beginning! With your
unwavering support we will try to do our very best to help as many people as possible in
a meaningful way. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!

Svitlana Karatnyk: And where is the help for the faithful parishioners of the Ukrainian
Orthodox Church (UOC)?
Caritas Kolomyia: Did you mean - FROM THE UOC? Or for the faithful of the UOC? If
from the UOC - ask not here, but in them. If you mean - for the parishioners of the UOC
- then Caritas Kolomyia and representatives of the Kolomyia eparchy of the UGCC
distributed for the people, victims of the flood probably more than 3,000 food and
hygiene kits, several thousand tons of drinking water, tons of used (unfortunately used,
because we do not have new clothes). We help (to the best of our ability) all the affected
people, and we will continue to help in another format - rebuilding and repairing homes.
We coordinate all our actions with representatives of local OTGs or village councils. If
you have personally suffered from the flood and for some reason OTG workers did not
include you in the lists - contact your pastor or us directly and we will help you as much
as we can! God bless you!

Fr. Roman Kitselyuk, Protosyncellus of the Kolomyia Eparchy and Caritas Kolomyia
employees handed over the last batch of food aid, sanitary detergents purchased with
the help of Metropolia of Philadelphia, as well as drinking water and second-hand
clothes from the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy to the Transnistrian and Transnistrian
villages.
In the village of Nezvisko, Horodenkivskyi district, 12 such kits and used clothes were
handed over to the village council, and Mr. Mykola Kovalchuk, head of a local
government, organized the transfer of this aid to the affected low-income families.
In the village of Horodnytsia, Horodenka district, the parish priest Fr. Ihor Yemchuk
and Mr. Dmytro Kolomiychuk, helped organize a distribution of 38 such kits for the
families most affected by the floods.
And local volunteers helped deliver the aid to the elderly and people with disabilities.
23 липня 2020 року July 23, 2020
The strong June flood of 2020 broke the usual way of life of many families in Prykarpattia,
Bukovyna and Lviv region. People living near stormy mountain rivers and near the floodplains
of the Dnister suffered the most.
Caritas Kolomyia, together with the Kolomyia Eparchy of the UGCC, was one of the first to
respond to the sudden problem and from the first days began a systematic program of assistance
to victims. Our parish Caritas, socially active parishes and concerned citizens and entrepreneurs
have joined this work.
From the funds accumulated by Caritas Kolomyia, immediately in the first days after the flood,
Caritas employees and volunteers prepared food kits, including funds from Caritas Olomouc
(Czech Republic), supplemented them with sanitary detergents from P&G, bought drinking
water and distributed to most affected villages, many of which were not even accessible.
In the first days after the flood, more than 550 food, sanitary and hygienic kits and about 3 tons
of drinking water were distributed to the families of Zabolotivska OTG, Mateivetska OTG,
Nizhneverbizh OTG, Rozhnivska OTG, Nyzhnivska OTG, Lanchynska OTG, p. Mikulichin,
village Chorny Potik, village Bili Oslava and other villages.
Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy of the UGCC, Philadelphia Metropolia of the UGCC (USA), Sokal-
Zhovkva Eparchy of the UGCC, and the Buchach Eparchy of the UGCC also provided important
and significant assistance with food, drinking water, and hygiene products.
In particular, only from the Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy and Caritas Ternopil received 1,100
folded food kits and more than 5 tons of products collected by the faithful from the parishes,
more than 20 tons of water and more than 45 tons of used clothes for the affected families.
Local entrepreneurs and volunteers also responded to the call for help. Thus, the food company
Ristor Foods from Nizhny Verbizh provided 220 food kits and 1.5 tons of drinking water, and
many volunteers from Kolomyia helped sort clothes, unload the aid and more.
It is important that the clergy of the Kolomyia eparchy of the UGCC, parish Caritas and caring
residents of the affected parishes, employees of the OTG and village councils were very active in
helping on the ground. Local volunteers brought food and drinking water for the elderly, people
with disabilities, and helped clear the yard, clean and do other necessary work. Thus, even
through such a difficult ordeal, social responsibility and volunteer service were intensified in
many parishes.
Currently, Caritas Kolomyia is changing the format of providing assistance to flood victims.
Caritas employees visit the affected villages, inspect the most affected families, draw up
inspection reports and organize the process of providing assistance with building materials,
household appliances and other necessary things.

Most Reverend Bishop Andriy!
I am sending you a brief note about the flooding in the Chernivtsi eparchy according to a
questionnaire survey of victims and heads of government agencies. Also, a brief
description of the problems and some photos of the damage!!!
The biggest problem of people is flooded houses, a lot of flooded gardens, which dooms
them to deficit of food in the fall, because they live mostly off farms and gardens, also
animals (rabbits, chickens) were lost.
One family does not have a place for two small children to live, so they had to take them
to their relatives in Chernivtsi
In many houses floors are damaged or destroyed, all the furniture is gone. A lot of
burned equipment.
In one family where there is a single mother with three children, where one child is
disabled, the batteries of the hearing aid were lost in water. People need our help.
We pray for each donor and thank God for you dear Bishop and for your efforts of Jesus'
merciful love for the victims !!!

soap dish, mop, etc.). People were extremely shocked and moved that they were not
alone in this trouble. We thank Father Andriy Kunitsky for his sacrificial cooperation

Father Lubomyr Ivanochko tells the story of the family we help together:
Another amazing day, when the Lord gave us all the opportunity to understand the
treasures. Caritas-Chernivtsi provided assistance to flood victims in the village of
Novoselytsia. We truly thank our center Caritas Novoselytsia and its leader Fr. Roman
Zamorsky.
But today the Lord brought us to the little girl Bohdanka, a child without a childhood.
She takes care of her bedridden mother every day and runs household as an adult. She
cooks food, washes clothes by hand ... which is far from a child's occupation. Their
housing has become almost useless, there is not even a sofa on which her mother could
lie.
That's why today we have provided materials for the restoration of decent housing -
cement, laminate, tiles, putty, a soft special sofa for a mother with a disability, paints,
fittings and more.
We encourage each of you to gather treasures in heaven, because they change our hearts
and build the Kingdom of Heaven in our midst !! HALLELUJAH)))
Matthew 6: 20-21: "Gather up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth
nor worm doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through walls or steal: for where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

assistance provided to the victims of floods in the village of Mikhal'cha and village of

one child who had nowhere to put her clothes and was already looking forward to our
arrival), a single bed with a mattress, floor varnish, wall paint, grid for putty, laminate,
glue, primer, linoleum.
People were extremely surprised and touched!
"For the first time in our lives we receive such great help. We thought we would not get
out of this trouble," said a resident of Dubove.
And the little girl who got her crib immediately said, "I'm already going to sleep on
it !!)))"

service !!! Everyone sincerely promised to pray for the donors !!!

On Wednesday, Caritas-Chernivtsi, with the support of the Philadelphia Metropolia and
visited the most affected mountain village of Roztoka from the recent flooding.
There was a lot of water coming thru, flooded houses and caused extensive damages.
The government provides assistance to such families, but it is a meager $650 from the
state provided that there are all registration documents. People are mostly poor and a
large number of them do not have the appropriate documents for housing and,
accordingly, will not receive anything!
We have focused on those people who are in despair and may not be able to spend winter
in their homes because of damages. Cement and drainage pipes, floor boards, microwave
ovens, building materials for wall restoration were provided!
May the Lord bless Father Vasyl Stefanko, who sacrificially serves with the love to
people in this predicament!
This mountainous area is quite inaccessible for transportation, which complicates the
delivery of aid but the Lord cares and provides different people to help!!
We plan three more trips to this village with building materials, bedding sets and food
packages in time for winter!
Thank you to Metropolitan Borys for being with us at this difficult time!

Today, Caritas-Chernivtsi, with the assistance of the Philadelphia Metropolia, began
providing the third wave of assistance to flood victims. This time 52 schoolbags were
purchased and distributed to children who had not received any necessary gifts for a
long time, due to the tragedy that befell their families.
On this day we visited the village of Novoselytsia. It was here that the Lord introduced
the charming girl Bohdanka, who takes care of her mother alone.
Bohdanka was very happy, "Mom, look what a pencil case, look how many notebooks,
look what pens!" We bow our heads and assure of our prayers for our donors from the
Philadelphia Metropolia!!!!

Caritas-Chernivtsi is one of the newest and very active organizations in our Church.
However, the extend of their ability to provide help has been limited due to lack of
resources and necessary equipment. Today they received 4 brand new HP laptops,
CANON printer/scanner and software purchased with the money of our fundraising
drive. (They did not have any computers or printers, and used their personal for work).
These computers will enhance logistics and work productivity of the office especially
right now in providing help to those affected by flood in the Eparchy of Chernivtsi.

And they brought the long-awaited soft corner-bedroom and table to the already
renovated home !!! Floor - laminate, walls are super !!!
Thank you for your zealous service and delivery to Fr. Roman Zamorsky and his Caritas-
Novoselytsia team.
Assistance became possible with a donation - a project for flood victims of the

We often hear a lot of negativity that people pour on the Church. These people are
mostly far from the Church and its life ... And today the Church shows how much she is
responsible for all those whom Christ entrusted to her as a Mother. People who, due to
certain circumstances, were left without the basics, today feel the support and love of
their Church, as well as those who never knew who the Ukrainian Greek Catholic
Church is provided with everything necessary.
Honestly, I am happy to be a priest of a Church that has never been indifferent to
human grief, a Church that is always one, no matter what continent it is on, a Church
that knows how to love those whom Christ has entrusted to HER ...

Today a ZOOM meeting was held with Father Volodymyr Chorniy (Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy), Father
Viktor Pryydun (Kolomyia eparchy) and Father Lyubomyr Ivanochko (Chernivtsi eparchy), coordinators of
flood relief assistance in Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions. The purpose of the meeting was to talk about
the damage caused by floods in each eparchy, the size and subject of first aid, methods of assistance, planning
and implementation of the second phase of assistance, challenges and needs. Currently, all three eparchies
provide targeted assistance from food, building materials to furniture, beds, and household appliances. They
learned about how the collection is going, the great support from the Ukrainian community and the desire to
help. Such coordinator meetings will be held regularly. I thanked them for their hard work and help they show
with love of neighbor as our Savior taught us.
Reflections after the conference with the coordinators providing assistance to flood victims
Discussing the situation with providing assistance in their territories, the coordinators stated
that no real assistance from the state, government agencies and local councils comes or almost
does not come to the people. Everything is currently limited to talk and a description of the
damage and promises to allocate funds, but nothing more is being done.
The diocesan Caritas in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kolomyia and Chernivtsi, to which we send your
donations, provide real, very fast and extremely high-quality assistance to those people who are
really poor and needy. All the help they provide is targeted and carefully checked. That is why
your donations are so critical and necessary.
There are still great needs:
- building materials: cement, electrical wires, floorboards, sheet metal, plaster;
- water, food, hygiene kits, detergents, bedding, diapers for adults and children;
- school bags, tools, uniforms, etc .;
- home appliances: refrigerators, washing machines
- furniture, beds, mattresses.
We plan to continue to help. We have already sent $70,000 between the three dioceses. At the
moment we have about $23,000 that we can send.

Your Excellency!
I was extremely pleased to hear your latest report on the huge amounts of money
collected by our Ukrainians for the flood victims needs. Under your leadership, you and
your staff have done an outstanding deed in collecting and managing the funds to be
distributed to western Ukraine. May all your efforts and endeavors come to fruition for
our people, especially the poor.
Enclosed is my second check to assist those most in need in Ukraine.
Sincerely,
Catherine (Livonia, MI)
