REPORT OF THE STUDENT REGENT ON THE 1291ST

    BOR MEETING

On the Renaming of the UP Diliman CBA to Virata School of Business

In the August BOR meeting, the Board came up with a resolution that the Chancellor will betasked to tell the originating College to do immense extended consultation among the sectorsupon the approval of the minutes of the 1298 th meeting. At that time, the Board expected thatthe College would be able to forward the results of the said consultation by the next meeting.

The Board was informed that unfortunately, the consultations have not yet been done because

the College has not been informed that the excerpt is already available and they could alreadybegin with the consultations.

We are expressing our disappointment with the slow pace of resolving this issue. We reiteratedto the members of the Board that the majority of the students from the CBA have alreadyexpressed their dissent against the railroaded decision to rename the College and the stand hasalso been gaining wide spread support from the UP Diliman community.

The Office urges students to continue to become vigilant and active until this decision becomessettled in the Board.

On the Proposed Revisions of Articles 330, 430 and 431 of the UP Code

Since the death of our fellow iskolar ng bayan Kristel Tejada, the Board has been receivingdifferent proposals for the revision of articles 330, 430 and 431 of the UP code so that it isconsistent with the Board resolution stating that: No qualified student shall be denied access toUP education due to financial incapacity.

Last Board meeting, the UP President told the Board that his office will forward another proposalbecause the different proposals coming from the review committee, the JFK alliance, UP LosBaos and UP Diliman seems irreconcilable.

We have already received the proposal being forwarded to the Board for approval in the next

meetings. The Office urges all students, student councils, organizations and other formations toactively participate in the consultation of this proposal which will occur in the following weeks.

On the Proposed Revisions to the STFAP

The Office of the President updated the Board on the proposed revisions to the SocializedTuition and Financial Assistance Program (STFAP) which is targeted for implementation byacademic year 2014-2015.

We have already received the proposal being forwarded to the Board for approval in the nextmeetings. The Office urges all students, student councils, organizations and other formations toactively participate in the consultation of this proposal which will occur in the following weeks.

The Office also stands firm that the inaccessibility of education cannot be solved by the STFAPalone. Rather, we challenge our students and other sectors of the UP community to actively call

for a rollback in the tuition and higher state subsidy for the education sector on the fundamentalbasis that education is a constitutional and basic human right.

For the students and the people,
