Over the years, Highmark’s reputation for excellence has been a result of their expertise in custom designs, new construction, renovations and remodeling. Now they’ll be preparing for spring with Highmark Exteriors, a new blend of services that will focus on custom repairs and replacements to roofing, siding, windows and gutters.

“We started the exteriors division because our clients were consistently asking us for help with repairs due to storms or just wear and tear,” “explained Jim Moras, partner. “We used to refer them to companies that specialized in this, but our home owners kept saying they’d rather have us do the work.” This is due only in

part to the quality of Highmark’s craftsmanship: with storm damage, many owners prefer to work with a locally-established firm that has a permanent presence instead of the many transient companies that comb neighborhoods after the weather clears.

Highmark Exteriors focuses on both maintenance and storm damage to the exterior systems of fine homes. “Minnesota’s four seasons

offer a varied lifestyle, but they’re also extremely demanding to the outside of your home, so regular inspections and upgrades are essential,” said Terry Gaulrapp, partner.

Clients can be assured of priority and quality service after hail, wind, extreme rain, falling trees or any other storm factors damage their home. They also work directly with insurance companies on storm projects, which saves time and eliminates hassle for homeowners.

Highmark selected Marvin Windows as their replacement windows partner due to the durability and efficiency of their products as well

as their commitment to sustainable manufac-turing processes. They offer an efficient, comfortable solution that integrates the traditional warmth of wood interiors with a low-maintenance extruded aluminum exterior. Insulating glass comes standard with all windows and doors. For greater performance, Marvin recommends Low E II or Low E II with Argon to reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter.

New Green Project: Sustainable, Accessible LivingThis 13,914 square foot private home is designed to be fully

accessible for the disabled. Designed by Sala Architects, it includes an in-home therapy pool and center as well as a separate wing for a live-in nurse. Located near Forest Lake, the entire home features the latest in high-efficiency insulation, windows, lighting systems and geo-thermal heating.

Marvin’s commitment to green manufac-turing is as impressive as their windows.• Approximately 12,000 tons of packaging and

logging waste are recycled annually. This powers the boiler, heats the plant, saves energy and reduces landfill waste.

• 14,000 tons of wood shavings are sold annually for animal bedding.

• An estimated 350 tons of cardboard and 90 tons of paper are recycled each year.

• Approximately 120 tons per year of plastic is recycled.• A carbon absorption process enables thousands

of gallons of solvent from wood preservation processes to be recycled.

• Special on-site equipment is used for recycling glass.

Save energy and money with Energy Star appliances

Energy Star is a federal government sponsored program that sets standards for energy savings in home appliances, heating and cooling systems and much more. See below for a few “way cool” facts.

Fridge and freezer. In most households, the refrigerator is the single biggest energy consuming kitchen appliance. Replacing a refrigerator bought in 1990 with a new Energy Star qualified model would save enough energy to light the average household for nearly four months.

Clothes washers. New large-capacity models without agitators save up to one extra load a week by washing over 20 pounds of laundry per load as compared to 10-15 pounds for older models. The non-agitator models are more gentle, reduce the wear and tear of your clothes, and can save over 7,000 gallons of water a year.
