INVERTER TYPE INFORMATION
Inverters are supplied in two different power output configurations; these
are MSW (modified sine wave) and PSW (pure sine wave).
MSW inverters are cheaper than PSW inverters but there are certain
appliances that you should not try to power with a MSW inverter, there are
also appliances that MSW inverters are well suited to and MSW inverters
will not cause any damage to these appliances. MSW inverters are usually
slightly more energy efficient than PSW inverters. In general, do not try to
directly power any form of electric motor, especially motors with speed
control, ceiling fans, fridges, freezers and light dimmers with a MSW
inverter. (see list below for examples of appliances not suitable for MSW
inverters) PSW inverters output the same quality power as you currently
receive from your utility (Eskom). PSW inverters are therefore suitable for
any appliance.
Both MSW and PSW inverters must be rated to handle your power
requirement. Example: Do not try to power an appliance that consumes
800 watts with an inverter that can only output 600 watts, this rule applies
to MSW and PSW inverters.
We sell MSW and PSW inverters in various power outputs and
configurations.
Typical appliances not suitable for MSW inverters:
Laser printer, oxygen machine, aquarium pump, hair drier, fridge, freezer,
washing machine, tumble drier, dish washer, food processor, certain ballast
operated fluorescent lights, light dimmer, electric weed wacker, electric
grass cutter, ceiling fan, pedestal fan, air conditioner, swimming pool pump,
thermo fan oven, overhead projector, vacuum cleaner, certain portable
battery chargers, microwave oven.
Note: There are some MSW inverters on the market that have a very poor
output quality and these MSW inverters cause interference on some TV’s
and sound systems in the form of a humming sound. All MSW inverters we
sell are compatible with all TV types and sound systems.
BATTERY TYPE INFORMATION
Standby / emergency power batteries are manufactured in various
chemistries to provide improved performance characteristics.
The typical deep cycle battery types used are as follows:
Sealed lead acid deep cycle
Sealed lead calcium deep cycle
Flooded lead acid deep cycle
Sealed gel deep cycle
Sealed AGM deep cycle
Sealed lead crystal deep cycle
Lithium type
We do not sell the sealed gel deep cycle type or the lithium type for backup
power applications as these batteries require specialized battery chargers
which are expensive and are usually out of most budgets. Using a standard
lead acid battery charger on a gel battery will shorten the battery life span
and may cause overheating of the battery. Take care when using the gel
type battery; ensure that the battery charger is suitable for gel battery
charging.
We do not sell multi use batteries either, these battery types are commonly
referred to as marine or leisure batteries. The multi use battery is not a true
deep cycle battery as it is 50% designed for starter motor applications (e.g.:
boat engine) and 50% designed as a deep cycle battery for cabin boat lights,
entertainment, caravan or camping use. The multi use battery can be used
with MSW and PSW inverters but backup power time will be a lot less than
a true deep cycle battery. Multi use batteries are usually a few hundred
rand cheaper than the lower end true deep cycle battery types multi use
batteries also have less run time in a standby application.
With any of our advertised systems the customer is welcome to supply /
source their own batteries, when assembling your own battery pack a few
basic rules must be applied.
- You can use different brands in the same battery pack
- You must use the same battery voltage; do not mix 6V and 12V
batteries together.
- You must use the same amp hour (AH) rating on each battery in the
pack.
- You must use the same battery type in the pack. Example: do not mix
lead acid and AGM together or sealed lead acid and flooded lead
acid.
- Make sure you set your battery charger to match the battery
chemistry you are using.
Battery life:
Different battery types have varying life spans, the lower end sealed lead
acid type has the lowest life span and the sealed lead crystal / lithium types
have the longest life span. All batteries have one characteristic in common,
the deeper you discharge any of the above mentioned battery chemistries
the shorter their life span, it is possible for a low end lead acid battery to
outlast a top of the range AGM battery if the lead acid is only has 20%
discharged from its capacity cycle after cycle while the AGM battery has
100% discharged from it cycle after cycle.
Size your battery amp hour capacity correctly for your application, if you
are not sure what battery amp hour capacity you need you can contact us

Try to limit your discharge capacity to 50% of the battery amp hour
capacity.
If you can limit your battery usage to 20% or 30% of capacity your battery
life span will almost double when compared to the 50% discharge level.

included AVR the inverter will ensure a constant 220 V output should the
Eskom power dip below 200 V, the unit will not use battery power to
maintain 220V output while Eskom incoming power is less than 200V.
What can the system not provide power to?
The described equipment is not recommended for powering a fridge, a
ceiling fan, a vacuum cleaner, a hair drier, some fluorescent lights, fish

Basic System Architecture The following illustration shows the basic application for this inverter/charger. It also includes connection to the following devices to have a complete running system:

The built in inverter can power all kinds of appliances in home or office environment, including motor-type appliances and ballast type lights such
as fluorescent tube light, fan, refrigerator, swimming pool pump and air conditioner. The largest controller we offer is the 4000 watt (5 kVa) option. This controller can power a normal electric water heater (geyser) and it can power an electric oven, but it cannot do these two tasks as the same time as their combined power requirement is greater than 4000 watts. Should you want to power more than 4000 watts you would need to install a second 4000 watt hybrid controller in parallel with the first unit, these controllers do have communication protocol between them via comms cable connection and will be able to act as one unit when connected in parallel. Up to 6 units can be connected in parallel to supply up to 24 000 watts of power.
Operation and Display Panel
The operation and display panel, shown in below chart, is on the front panel of the power control module. It includes three indicators, four function keys and a LCD display, indicating the operating status and input/output power information.
