RENAULT 4 1.6LT 16VPart I: the fuel hardware
The rst thing you'll need to do is make a custombrass tee to send some fuel over to the injector. Iwent to a local hardware store and bought a teewith three 1!" threaded ttings# $lus two %1&"barbs and one 1&" barb. I $ut some te(on ta$e
on the threads and screwed it together nice andtight. )*e sure to $ut the right barbs in the right$lace+, -nce together it is installed in the fuelhose which feeds your fuel railit's the hose thatis %1&" in si/e. *e sure to use clam$s which arein good condition0 we don't want any leaks

ow we install the injector itself. This is sim$ly a runofthemill cold start
injector out of a junkyard 2aab0 it di3ers from normal injectors in that itdoesn't $ulseit's either (owing constantly )on, or not at all )o3,. This is thestyle of injector you must use. ormal "$ulsing" injectors will not su$$ly aconstant fuel (ow and the resulting s$oradic fuel delivery will causedetonation and destroy your engine. In your metal intercooler $i$e# drill ahole which is barely larger than the injector's no//lesi4 inches in front ofthe throttle body is ideal. Tem$orarily $ut the injector in $lace# use its (angeto mark where the screw holes go# then remove the injector and drill those
holes.
-nce the holes are ready and the $i$e has been thoroughly cleaned of metalshavings# $lace a halfinch $iece of %1&" fuel hose over the ti$ of theinjector and install it $ermanentlythe small $iece of hose will com$ress andconform to the sha$e of the $i$e making an airtight seal. 2heet metalscrews will do the job $erfectly0 I even went so far as to add a very smalldab of 5T6 for these screws to ensure a good seal but this is overkill so long
as you don't drill holes which are too big for the screws. ow that theinjector is mounted# $lumb in the fuel hose from the 1&" barb of the brasstee.

RENAULT 4 1.6LT 16VPart II: the $neumatic hardware@ooling the ma$ sensor with diodes or bleeds
Barning+ 7ou must have a noncom$uter controlled wastegate to take advantageof this modication. 9ny boost over stock levels will also not be seen by the
com$uter and e4tra fuel will have to be added.Dsing a diode is an electrical way of fooling the com$uter from seeing over a 1!$si of boost. The com$uter "sees" boost by $roviding the ma$ sensor with a % voltsignal and based on the amount of $ressure )or vacuum, the sensor is readingreturns a voltage between 1. to %. volts. >.%v is the center $oint more or less# anyvoltage below that is vacuum and any voltage above that is boost.
ow de$ending on your com$uter you will need either a !.v or a !.;v /enerdiode in the 1> watt to 1 watt range. Eener diodes work by "dum$ing" any e4travoltage over their rating to ground0 thus $reventing the com$uter from seeing
over the diodes rated voltage+
If you have a stock com$uter# you must use the !.v diode. If you use the !.;v theboost reading the com$uter still sees is higher than the $rogrammed boost"target" and you will still get overboost shutdown. 7ou must have a AP com$uterto use the !.;v diode# they have a higher "target" boost voltage and won't shutdown at the !.;v ma$ sensor reading.
Bhy not just use the !.v diode for everything you sayF Bell remember we areblinding the com$uter to what it sees over this target voltage and it won't be
su$$lying e4tra fuel. The di3erence between !. and !.; might be slight# but it's alittle e4tra fuel and you should take advantage of it if you can.

ow to hook the diode u$ you will need:
9. digital volt meter*. wire stri$$ers or ra/or knife )be careful,G. soldering guniron and solderH. electrical ta$e
There are three wires coming out of your ma$ sensor0 sensor ground# %v in andsensor voltage out )between 1 and % volts rememberF, Bith the key on# engine
o3 $robe the wires for voltage and mark what you nd. The one with - voltage isground# and the one with less than %v is sensor out$ut we will be using these twowires for our modication.
Install the diode as shown in the above diagram# be careful take your time andmake sure you don't use to much heat as this will damage the diode and it will notfunction $ro$erly. )9 small electronics soldering heatsink isn't a bad idea, itsim$ortant to note which way the stri$e on the diode goes+ If you get it backwards#your car will not run correctly+
Ta$e everything carefully u$ and you should be good to go+

RENAULT 4 1.6LT 16VPart III: wiring it all in
ow all you need to do is wire everything together. Theinjector has two wires and $olarity does not matterfeed 1>vto one and ground to the other and you'll get fuel. I attachedone wire to a constant 1>v source0 this line contains a 1am$
inline fuse for safety.
I then connected the other injector wire to one of theterminals of the $ressure switch. The switch's second terminalis connected to ground. Bhen the threshold $ressure isreached the switch closes and sends ground to the injector#turning it on. -nce $ressure falls below the threshold# theswitch o$ens and the injector shuts o3.
@or neatness sake# I used as much of the injector's wiring as Icould. Bhen you remove a cold start injector from a junkyardcar try to cut o3 as much of the harness as you canyou'lla$$reciate it later.

ow all that's left is making it all work. 8radually raise yourboost level one $ound at a time0 make sure your fuel gaugesays all is well. If you hit overboost cutout# adjust your raiservery slightly )half a turn at a time, and try again. 9fter a bit of
e4$erimentation you should get dialed in to your target boostsetu$. -nce you do# be sure to read your s$ark $lugs toconrm everything is okay. If it is# you're all set+
