We use relative pronouns to add new clause to a sentence. The relative pronoun refers to the noun before the relative clause.
EXAMPLES
It was late WHEN they reached the summit.
That is the man. He won the race.That is the man WHO won the race.This is the mountain. I climbed that mountain.This is the mountain WHICH I climbedIt was late. At that moment they reached the summit.
