SKIN CHANGES ARE A NORMAL PART OF THE
aging process. As we age, skin becomes less elastic, oil glands
lubricate less effectively and the cells controlling pigmentation
can malfunction. However, overwhelming evidence indicates
that many undesirable skin changes such as fine lines, wrinkles,
brown spots, sagging skin and broken blood vessels are, in fact,
more related to repeated sun exposure than the passage of time.
Smoking, stress, excessive alcohol consumption, improper diet
and pollution also affect the condition of the skin.
If you have fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging there
are many treatment options available that are safe, effective
and can subtract years from your appearance.
The board certified dermatologists of NEDA have developed
this guidebook if you are interested in rejuvenating your facial
appearance. If you have questions about the information provided
in this booklet, please ask your doctor or make an appointment
for a free consultation with one of our clinical aestheticians.
BootxBOTOX® TREATMENTS HAVE BEEN used for
decades to treat medical problems related to the eyes.
In 2002, Botox was approved by the FDA for cosmetic
use. In 2009, a similar product called Dysport® was also
approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. These treatments
are particularly effective for decreasing “crow’s feet,” frown
lines between the eyebrows, and horizontal lines on the
forehead. When injected into specific spots of the affected
area, they cause the treated muscle to relax temporarily.
This eases the appearance of lines and wrinkles and helps
prevent new ones from forming.
Continued maintenance is vital to the effectiveness of
Botox and Dysport. Treatments every 3 to 5 months are
best for maintaining desired results.

MANY OF THE AGING CHANGES ON THE FACE CAN BE
improved by the use of “fillers” that restore youthful facial volume.
These natural based products can smooth away the unwanted lines
and folds around the mouth and nose. Treatment can usually be
performed in 1 to 3 sessions depending on the filler, with minimal
pain and downtime. We use many different products such as
Juvederm,® Radiesse,® Sculptra Aesthetic® and Restylane.® Results last
from 6 months to 2 years. Since there is not a “one size f its all”
approach to these therapies, we prefer to meet with each of you,
tailoring treatment to meet your individual needs, as well as your budget.

FRAXEL TREATMENTS PROVIDE A SAFE, EFFECTIVE
and non-invasive procedure that can take years off your appearance.
Fraxel treatments address fine lines, wrinkles, furrows, skin texture,
age/sun spots, acne scars, uneven pigmentation and melasma. In other
words, Fraxel creates smoother, fresher, younger looking skin with
improved texture and pore size while diminishing fine lines. Patients
typically need 1 to 3 treatments.

+THE TERM LASER IS AN ACRONYM for Light Amplification Simulated
Emission of Radiation. Lasers convert electrical energy into light energy, with
many applications. Dermatologists have used lasers since the 1960s for treatment
of various skin conditions. In recent years, advances in research and development
have given lasers a significant advantage over other cosmetic skin therapies.
In addition to the Hair Removal and CO2 Resurfacing lasers the board certified
dermatologists at NEDA use lasers to treat vascular lesions, fine lines, pigmented
lesions, warts, stretch marks and tattoos.
Photodynamic Therapy (or Blue-Light) is a narrow band, high intensity visible
blue light approved by the FDA for treating precancerous skin lesions. It also
represents the most widely accepted light therapy for acne treatment.
