Harlequinns Visit

The club had a great day out at the Stoop on Saturday 4th October. The day started off with the Harlequinns coaches taking our kids for a training session just outside the stadium. A number of really good training drills and exercises were performed. The heavens decided to open though it didn’t stop the kids – The parents without brollys got a tad wet though. After training we were

allowed into the Stoop for lunch, wash and a change and for the kids to enjoy themselves on

pr

provided

Pre Match the U12 Captain –

Tom Carson and U12 Scrum Half Patrick Buckley got the opportunity to announce the players names over the PA system. The rest of the Mini’s performed the Guard of Honor which the

players ran through. By now it was brilliant sunshine and so at half time the mini’s took a photo opportunity on the pitch - under the posts and performed a lap of honour. Tom & Patrick were invited back to the PA announcer to interview George Lowe & Charlie Walker. The best question being “have you heard of Reigate RFC, and

when are you coming down to see us”? The

U7’s stayed behind after the match and Seth, Cal,

Thomas, William & Dylan managed to get a great picture and autograph of Marland Yarde. Please have a look at the pictures on the next page and front cover.

U5&U6’s

The Micro’s have had the best start to the season ever with a combined squad of over 30boys

and girls undertaking the unique micro training session each Sunday morning. As the season

gets underway we will start to build touch rugby skills in the U6’s specifically in the run up to

Christmas. We are as ever looking for support from parents so thanks to those who join in

and if any parent wishes to help then please make themselves known to James or Danny

U7’s

Paul is delighted to announce that

the U7’s took part in their first ever

festival this year. The event hosted

by Weybridge Vandals was a

fantastic day with cracking weather

and resulted in U7’s FIRST EVER

TROPHY. Two teams were entered

the Raptors & The Rhino’s and

there was fantastic play by all.

Hopefully the first of many more to

come

U8’s The U8’s have had a really good start to the season, very high numbers including 21 minis

attending Harlequinns. The next U8 event will be the Parents Social on 13th November.

Please let Adam know if you can make it.

U9’s The U9’s did not attend the Weybridge Festival, instead they took the short trip across to Old

Reigations where they entered a tri fest with OR’s and Dorking. AND BEAT THEM BOTH !!

Fantastic achievement by the boys and a really good sign of things to come.

How on earth they understand Dec is a mystery but it’s working

U11’s & U12’s The U11’s & U12’s both attended the Weybridge festival. The U11’s struggled with numbers

but put in some very gutsy performances.

The U12’s lost their first game (as usual) to the Vandals but was a very close affair. After

that they drew against Staines and Old Emanuel before beating Twickenham and London

Welsh to end up 3rd in the group.

U10’s The U10’s have made a cracking start to the new season (although the season never

really stops for them as they continue the midweek training throughout the summer).

The new skills that are introduced this year are coming along nicely.

Matt & Wes are delighted to have 4 new players this season, they are all new to rugby

and have got stuck right in, so a huge welcome to them.

The biggest surprise for the U10’s has been the introduction of a whistle. Wesley has

been sporting his new whistle every week so far, this hasn’t stopped him shouting

“WHISTLE”, even though he has one around his neck.

It was really good to see so many parents joining in and having fun with the mini’s on the 28th September. The weather was glorious and the BBQ food sold out in no time at all. Thanks to Luis for his hard work on the grills.

In addition to the fun games with coaches and parents and as well as the Obstacle course challenges the Micros ran, the minis held a Club speed race ,over 50 metres, to find the fastest mini. A few coaches and parents had a go….and didn’t get close. The results are;

Fastest U7: Daniel 10 Seconds Fastest U8: Oliver 9.28 Seconds

Fastest U10: Ashton 8.31 Seconds Fastest U9: William 8.06 seconds

Fastest U12: Antonio 8.03 seconds

Fastest U11 & Current RRFC Mini record holder

Sam P - 7.85 seconds

The club café will open each Sunday at 10am. Hot food & drinks, cakes and snacks available. Treat yourself to a bacon sarnie and a coffee whilst you watch the rugby unfold. Watch this space for upcoming events and weekly specials

We will open the bar towards the end of training whilst the younger children get changed and fed or while you wait for the older ones to finish their matches. Please do come in to enjoy the bar and make the Sunday mornings even more of a social occasion.

We have a thriving second hand shop open each Sunday, please make use of this and remember to donate any old kit. This really helps the club and brings down the cost for us parents. If you do need to buy new kit, you can order on line. The links are below:-

As ever we are always looking for volunteers. Even if you can’t commit each Sunday any help is appreciated. In the next few weeks the coaching staff will be looking at Child Safety & Protection. This includes First Aid. If there are any parents who are or would like to be First Aid and are happy to help please let your head coaches know

T.R.E.D.S TREDS is the acronym for Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship – the core values of Rugby as set out by the RFU. It is very important that the minis learn these values and as coaches and parents we lead by example. In the U12’s we have worked hard on sportsmanship, the boys always give three cheers and shake hands, win or lose …and they have fun – they have nicknames for most of the players now including Damage, The Phantom, Dory, Hollywood, Lippy, Callumball, Crackers, TC, King Ben, Cuddles, Mango, Fast Toni, Will-i-Be & Bob! (More to come). However, they do need to work on Respect and Discipline – which we will be working on over the weeks (a lot of sin binning!!) Other age groups may have different issues to address. Please help your coaches to install these core values into the minis so they are second nature.

Many Thanks
