The concept of neuro-developmental treatment

NDT is based on the recognition of the

importance of two factors:

- the interference of normal maturation of

the brain by the lesion.

- the presence of abnormal patters of

posture and movement.

The main problems of patients with cerebral

palsy are models of impaired postural control

and coordinated movement.

Identified deficiencies of the system are

modified and improves global function when

motor coordination problems are treated bydirect approach neuro-motor abnormalities and

postural control in a context of specific tasks.

The deficiencies affect the entire person -individual functions, place family and

community, independence and quality of life.

NDT intervention using motion analysis to

identify missing or atypical elements, linking

functional limitation of system failure.

The therapist identifies the components of a

biomechanical movements including the base

of support alignment, weight change and

amplitude of motion during a functionalsequences.

The study group included 10 children with

cerebral palsy which principles were applied in

practice of NDT Bobath for the first time

during 4 months.

Before the treatment I made an assessment

plan for every pacient according to the NDT

BOBATH concept for clients with cerebralpalsy.

In the dynamic physical therapy sessions with active

movement plays prominent role dissociation.

Without separate each piece like a puzzle and then

put together can not have a biomechanical alignamentwhich is another principles in NDT treatment.

Another principles in therapy is trunk rotation to

facilitate many posture and normal movement.

Assessment and treatment the range of motion is

another important principles in NDT treatment.

After that very important is to see the

highest functional level, gross motor

and fine motor, to established themajor problems and the major

components in range and function. In

every physical therapy session will

have a mini goal.

All the pacients were evaluated initially and finally

and final scores have shown the efficiency application

of the NDT Bobath concept in cerebral palsy

treatment.

During the 4 months treatment I observe a really nice

improvement of evolution and a very good respond orthe parents and caregivers.

The purpose of NDT Bobath concept is to optimize

the function and the intervention programs are

designed to serve clients throughout the life.
