Regulations and RulesInformationStudent WebStudents can access our MPI website www.ipm.edu.mo for the most updated information about studying,
facilities,pedagogicalaffairs,etc.
Every registered student is assigned a personal Net ID for accessing services such as network storage , emails,
e-learning platform, SIWeb, etc. Students can check their personal information, enrollment status, class
attendance,academicresults,paymentstatus,classtimetable,examinationandsupplementaryexamination
timetables.Meanwhile,studentscanconfirmenrollments,paytuitionfees,applyforlockersandlocatevarious
documents via e-service. In addition, students can communicate with teachers and administrative units with the
MPI email service. Students are reminded to check and clear their mailbox frequently, to ensure that they will
not miss important information sent to their mailbox.
Release of InformationMPI important information about activities, as well as information about class cancellations due to typhoons, are
sent to registered students mainly via our website - www.ipm.edu.mo, student notice - www.ipm.edu.mo/index.
php/student-corner-news-for-students, SMS, notice boards, and emails. Students should check for MPI informa-
tion frequently so as to get the most updated information.
Students can check for information such as academic calendar, class timetable, examination and supplementary
examination timetables, class cancellation and make-up class notice, book lists, book order service, recruitment
ofstudenthelpers,jobopportunity,studentnotices,formsandstudentactivitiesonourMPIwebsite

RegistrationRegistration – New StudentsNewstudentsmustcompletetheregistrationprocedurewithinthespecifiedtime.Studentswhofailtodoso

period ends. Otherwise, they will be considered to have decided not to enrol.

Registration – Current StudentsTheRegistrywillcompletetheregistrationprocedureforstudentswhoaregoingontoYear2andYear3.Students

Current students of Higher Diploma programmes (Year 3) who are going to take the Supplementary Bachelor
Degreeprogrammes(thefourthyear),needtosendtheirapplicationsagain(online).Thereareadmission
examinations(writtenexaminations,interviewsetc)forsomeprogrammes.Successfulcandidatesneedtosettle
thetuitionfeesandregisterwithinthespecifiedtime.Students,whofailtocompletetheregistrationprocedures
withinthespecifiedtimeneedtosendwrittenapplicationstotheRegistryfordeferredregistrationwithinor
before the registration period. Otherwise, they will be considered to have decided not to enrol.
DocumentstobesubmittedforregistrationofBachelorDegreeprogrammes:Copyofidentifycard(needto
showtheoriginal),copyofhigherdiplomacertificate(MPIgraduatesdonotneedtosubmitthis),three1.5-inch
photos, report of medical examination (with doctor’s signature and stamp; students graduated from MPI less
than a semester, do not need to submit this), copy of tetanus vaccination record (need to show the original) and
receipt of tuition fee.

Enrollment Guidelines
Studentsshouldfinishtheenrollmentprocedureswithinthespecifiedtimepriortothestartofeverysemes-
ter(includingfirsttaking,re-taking,applyingforsubjectequivalence,addingordroppingsubjects,changing
classes, exempting from class). Late applications will not be accepted.
Students have to pass and complete the Higher Diploma programme to continue with the relevant Bachelor
Degreeprogramme.Full-timestudentshavenolimittothenumberofsubjectstakenwhilepart-timestudents
cantakeamaximumofthreesubjects.Beforeselectinganysubjects,studentsneedtohavecompletedthecom-
pulsorycourses(ifapplicable).Studentscannotselectsubjectswhichtheyhavealreadytakenandpassed.
UnlessitisapprovedbytherelevantSchool,day-timestudentscannotselectthecourses(inthesameordiffer-
entdiscipline)ofnight-timeprogrammes,andviceversa.Moreover,studentscannotchoosesubjectswithclass
timeconflicts.Thisstipulationisnotapplicabletothosere-takingcoursesinaccordancetoregulations.
Enrollment DetailsTheRegistrysetstheselectivesubjectsinaccordancetofull-timestudents’studyyearandstudyplaninthe
case of full-time students, before the commencement of each semester the Registry will enroll them on all the
appropriatecompulsorycoursesofferedintheacademicyear,inaccordancewiththestudent’srespective
admissionyearandstudyplan.Theinformationwillbedisplayedinthe“StudentInformationWebServices”
before the course enrolment period.
Part-time students should proceed with enrollment at the Registry in person.
The“StudentInformationWebServices–coursesforenrollment”sectionwillshowclasseswhichareautomati-
cally arranged. If no information is shown in the ‘Class’ column the courses most likely have quota restrictions
andareenrolledonafirst-come-first-servedbasisortherespectiveschoolshaveotherspecialarrangements.To
enroll on such courses, students are required to handle the relevant procedures in person at the Registry during
the course selection period.
Pre-enrolmentforstudentsresumingstudieswillincludeallthefollow-upcoursesofeverygrade.Therefore,
these students are required to handle the relevant procedures in person at the Registry during the course selec-
tion period.
If students do not approach the Registry to add or drop any courses or for class transfers during the course
selectionperiod,thepre-enrolledcourseswillbeconfirmed.

If students plan to apply for course equivalence for any prerequisite courses, the corresponding follow-up or
subsequentcoursesarenotincludedinthepre-enrolledcourses.Theyneedtoapplywithinaprescribedperiod
at the Registry to add these follow-up courses.
Studentswhohavesubmittedapplicationsforcourseequivalenceforprerequisitecoursesmaybeenrolledupon
thefollow-upcoursesonaconditionalbasis.Iftheirapplicationsareapproved,theycancontinuetoattend
classes for these courses. Otherwise, enrollment of the follow-up courses will be cancelled.
Ifnoadjustmentisneededtothecoursesenrolledonasshowninthe“StudentInformationWebServices”,there
isnoneedforstudentstoreturntotheInstituteforenrollmentandtheyshouldsimplyattendclassesaccording
to the time-table.
If students do not approach the Registry within the course selection period for adding or dropping courses, all
pre-enrolled courses will be shown on the academic report.
Students may apply at the Registry for credit recognition for all or part of the courses enrolled on within
a prescribed period. Applications and approvals of credit recognition are dealt with in accordance with
separate regulations.
Exemption from classes Ifstudentsretakecoursesforwhichtheyhavealreadymettheattendancerequirements,andclasstimesoverlap
with the class times of other courses they are enrolled on, the Registry will normally automatically handle
procedures of exemption from classes for the courses concerned on behalf of the student. If not, the student is
required to apply to the Registry for exemption from classes within the course selection period.
Students should apply in writing stating the grounds, together with valid proof, for reasons other than those
mentioned above for exemption from classes. Approval of such applications is the exclusive competence of the
relevant school.
In the case of approved exemptions from classes, students are required to consult their lecturers concerning the
requirements and arrangements regarding submission of assignments and assessments.
Exam time conflictsIftherearetimeconflictsatexamtimesandtherearemorethanoneexaminationtimesforthecourse,the
studentmayattendtheexaminationofanotherclass.InsuchcasesthestudentshouldapproachtheRegistryto
apply during the course selection period.
Ifthereisnotimeconflictatexamtimethestudentmustattendtheexamaccordingthetimescheduledforthe
course,andmaynotapplytoattendexamsatothertimes.

Enrollment status categories and changes in statusEnrollment status categoriesCurrent: students who enroll on courses during the school year / semester of their studies and pay the tuition
fees are considered as current students.
Deferrals: students who, in the middle or before the semester due to personal reasons, apply for deferrals and
complete the related procedures, with permission from the school obtained, are called deferred students.
Suspension: students who because of violations of relevant provisions of the Institute are forced to suspend their
studies are called suspended students.
Resumption:Studentswhoresumetheirstudiesduringtheoriginallyscheduledtimeafterleaveofabsenceor
suspension, and continue their studies, are considered to be resumed students.
Withdrawals: students who apply for withdrawal and complete related procedures, with permission from the
school, in the middle or before the semester due to personal reasons, are considered as withdrawn students.
UnofficialWithdrawals:studentswhocannotcompletetheproceduresofpayingtheirtuitionfeesanddonot
applyforanysuspensionorwithdrawalareconsideredasunofficiallywithdrawnstudents.
Forced Withdrawals: students, who due to serious violations of the Institute’s regulations or who have been
forced to suspend their studies because of having reached the maximum school hours of relevant degrees, are
considered to be forced withdrawn students.
Changes in enrollment statusApplying to transfer between programmes Registered current students wishing to change their programmes are required to apply during the registration
period. Current students with academic achievements/excellent results may apply to be exempted from entrance
examination procedures. Students failing to obtain such approvals from the Schools concerned will be required
togothroughthenormalproceduresfornewstudents[(suchas:entranceexamination(writtentest/interview),
intakeoffers,registrationprocedures,etc.].

Applying to transfer between groupsStudents wishing to transfer from day class to evening class or vice versa, or from one language group to
another (Chinese/English/Portuguese), or from full-time mode to part-time mode or vice versa, are required to
approachtheRegistrytohandletheirchangesinenrollmentstatusduringtheadd/dropcourseperiod,subjectto
the approvals of relevant academic/administrative units.
Applying to change enrollment statusThisreferstostudentsapplyingfordeferralsordeferredstudentsapplyingtoresumetheirstudies.Studentsof
MPI degree programmes, when applying for deferrals , should note the following points:
˙-adefermentapplicationformmustbecompletedandsubmittedtotheRegistry.Eachdeferralsmaybeup
to one academic year;
˙-whenthesemesterforresumingstudiesisapproaching,studentswishingtoapplytocontinuetheir
deferrals should submit their applications again to the Registry;
˙-withinsevendaysaftertheschoolshavemadetheirdecisionsconcerningtheapplications,theRegistrywill
issueletterstoinformstudentsabouttheresultsoftheirapplications.Beforebeinginformedoftheresults
students shall continue to participate in all classes;
˙-accordingtotheInstitute’sregulations,whensubmittingtheirapplicationformsfordeferralsmainland
studentsshouldalsosubmittheoriginalcopyoftheirparents’consentletters,copiesoftheirHongKong
and Macao Boarder / Entry Passes (including the Visa D page), and copies of the Immigration Services’
documents (if applicable);
˙-toenablestudentstohavebetterlearningarrangements,itisrecommendedthatdefermentapplicationsare
made before the commencement of the semester;
˙-inaccordancewiththeprovisionsofthePedagogicRegulations,“Iftheprogrammehasbeenupdated
before the student returns to school, the student is required to follow the new study plans to continue
their studies.”;
˙-inaccordancewiththeprovisionsconcerningthetimetocompletion,themaximumtimeallowedfor
completionisthetotalnumberofacademicyearsduringwhichstudentscontinuouslyorintermittently
registered with the Institute and should be equal to the normal number of academic years of the course
plus50percent.Durationsoflessthanoneacademicyearshouldbecountedasoneacademicyear.For
working students, the number should be equal to the normal number plus one hundred percent. In ac-
cordancewiththerelevantprovisions,attheendoftheschoolyearstudentswhohavebeenidentifiedas
not able to complete the course will lose their student status, commencing from that academic year the
studentscannotapplyorenrolluponcoursesattheInstitutewithinthreeyears.Thereforetothisend,itis
vital to make pre-planned learning arrangements;

- the Registry will process the resumption procedures for approved cases automatically according to the
instructions of the relevant schools. Resumed students should refer to the student notice on our website
www.ipm.edu.mo, to acquire information on the selection of courses, paying tuition and registration pro-
cedureseitherinJune(resumptioninthefirstsemester)orNovember(resumptioninthesecondsemester);
-everysemesterafterschoolstarts,theRegistryhastherighttochangestudents’enrollmentstatusfrom
“current“to“informalwithdrawn”withoutfurthernoticeincaseswheretuitionfeesarenotpaidand
where no course is enrolled upon without completing the suspension procedures. If informally withdrawn
students choose to continue their studies and can obtain permission from the schools concerned, they are
requiredtopayanadministrationfeeofMOP$100forinformalwithdrawalandanotherMOP$150for
resumption of studies.
Current students applying for withdrawalStudentsarerequiredtocompletethewithdrawalapplicationformsand,havingobtainedthelibrary’sconfirma-
tion that all borrowed books have been returned, submit the completed forms to the Registry.
Informal withdrawn students applying for resumption If informally withdrawn students wish to return to school they are required to lodge their applications with the
RegistryinMay(resumptioninthefirstsemester)orinOctober(resumptioninthesecondsemester)andsend
their applications to their respective schools for approval. Upon receiving schools’ approval results, the Registry
willissueletterstostudentsinformingthemoftheresults.Pleasepayattentiontoonlinenoticesconcerning
paymentoffeesandselectionofcourses.AnadministrationfeeofMOP$100forinformalwithdrawalandan-
otherMOP$150forresumptionofstudiesisrequiredwhenpayingtuitionfees(August-thefirstsemester/De-
cemberorJanuary-thesecondsemester).Inthecaseofsuchstudentsapplyingfordeferralsagainafterhaving
returnedtoschool,alltuitionfeesandtheadministrationfeesinvolvedininformalwithdrawalmustbesettled
in order to formally apply for deferrals.
Suspended students applying for resumption TheRegistrywillautomaticallyhandletheproceduresforsuspendedstudentswhoareapprovedtoresumetheir
studies according to relevant academic/administrative units’ instructions. Please refer to the student notice on
ourwebsitewww.ipm.edu.moeitherinJune(resumptioninthefirstsemester)orNovember(resumptioninthe
second semester), and complete the procedures for selection of courses, paying tuition and registration fees on time.

Prerequisite Courses and System of Promotion (repeating) of GradeStudentsmustfirstenrollonprerequisitecoursesandobtainpassesintheexaminationsbeforetheycanenroll
on follow-up / continuation courses. For students who complete all courses of the school year in accordance
withthestudyplan,orwherethecreditsofuncompletedcoursesaccountforlessthanonefifthoftheyear’s
credits in accordance with the study plan, their grades are considered as promotion.
Admission and school system for special needs students Specialneedsstudentsgenerallyreferstostudentswithdefectsinlimbsorinbody.Theyshouldreporttheir
situationtotheRegistrybeforeadmissionsothatspecialarrangementsaboutadmissionexams,attendingclasses
canbemadeandothersupportprovided.Alltheprogramme/courserequirementsmustbefulfilledinorderto
bequalifiedtograduate.
Eligibility criteria and application procedures for audit students If registered current students wish to study courses outside the study plan of their programme they may
applytodosoviatheRegistry.TheRegistrywillinformstudentsoftheresultsfollowingtherespectiveschool’s
decision.Thecoursesattendedbythestudentswillnotattractanycreditsorbeincludedinthecalculation
of results.
Non-MPIstudentswhowishtoauditanyclassesmustfirstcompleteadmissionapplicationandisrequiredto
submitawrittenrequestforauditingclassestotheRegistry.TheRegistrywillinformstudentsoftheresults
followingtherespectiveschool’sdecisions.Afterbeingapproved,studentsarerequiredwithinaspecifiedperiod
to complete the registration, selection of courses and payment procedures with the Registry. Audit students are
obligedtocompletewithdrawalproceduresafterattendingcourses.
Exchange Students - Application Terms, Procedures / FormalitiesThereareexchangeprogrammesintheSchoolofLanguagesandTranslation,SchoolofArts,SchoolofPublic
Administration, School of Business and School of Health Sciences. Students wishing to participate in these
exchange programmes must complete the relevant application form and meet the School’s requirements. Re-
gardingapplicationperiodandotherdetails,studentsshouldapproachtherelevantSchoolofficeortheStudent
AffairsOffice.

Student Records & How to Gain Access to Them Astudent’sprofilerecordshis/herinformationwhens/heentersMPI,whichincludestheregistrationform,
identityinformation,educationalbackgroundetc.Students’recordsareforpermanentfiling.Students’records
canbereadorcopiedbyauthorizedMPIpersonnel(suchasthePresident,programmecoordinators,and
relevantacademicstaff).StudentscanmakereferencetotheirrecordsintheRegistry.Theyshouldstatethe
purposeandusageoftherecordswhenapplying.Theinformationsubmittedbystudentswillbeusedfor
handlingissuesrelatedtoAdmission.Theyarekeptasstudents’records.Afterregistration,students’recordswillbe
senttotheTertiaryEducationServicesOffice,MacaoSARforthepurposeofcompilingtheCollegeStudentsDatabase.
Graduation EligibilityUpon completion of the course credits (or course), students’ graduation eligibility will be approved by the Peda-
gogicalandScientificCommittee(PSC)oftherelevantschools.
CertificateInaccordancewiththeapproveddesignsfor“Diploma”,“HigherDiploma”and“BachelorDegree”certificatesby
theSecretaryofSocialAffairsandCulture,MPIwillissueappropriatecertificatestograduates.
Academic RegulationsAcademic CalendarStudentscanchecktheacademiccalendarontheMPIwebsite.Theycanalsobrowseordownloadthemost
updated arrangements regarding the Opening Ceremony, holidays, make-up classes, revision time and examina-
tions for degree programmes.
Class TimetableTheclasstimeandvenuewillbeannouncedat“ClassTimeTableEnquiry”onMPIwebsiteeverysemester.
Since changes may be happened due to needs for teaching purpose, students are suggested to check the Class
Timetable again before class.
Final and Supplementary Examination ArrangementsFinalandsupplementaryexaminationsareheldonceeverysemester.Thefinalandsupplementaryexamination
periodsarestatedintheacademiccalendaroftherelevantacademicyear.Theexaminationschedules,includ-
ingexaminationvenue,areavailableat“ExaminationTimetableEnquiry”and“SupplementaryExamination
TimetableEnquiry”onMPIwebsite.Studentsshouldpayattentiontotheremarksstatedonthetimetable.For
any enquiries, please approach to the Registry.

Academic RegulationsTheAcademicRegulationsareimportantrulescoveringprogrammearrangements,structure,academiccalendar,

Examination Regulations(1)StudentsshouldpresenttheirstudentcardstotheMPImemberofstaffandoccupytheirseatsaccordingto
the examination seating plan. If a student’s name is not listed on the examination seating plan or has been
crossedout(i.e.his/herattendancedoesnotsatisfytherequirementsoftheAcademicRegulations),andthe
studentislodginganappealregardinghis/herattendancerate,thestudentshouldcompletea‘Provisional
ApplicationforExamination’formandpresentthevalididentificationdocumentwhichwasusedfor
registration.
(2) Students must place their (i) student card, or (ii) ‘Provisional Application for Examination’ form with the
valididentificationdocumentwhichwasusedforregistration,atthetoplefthandcorneroftheexamina-
tion desk for inspection by invigilators.
(3)Studentsarenotpermittedtotaketheexaminationifarrivingafterthefirst30minutesoftheexamination.
Studentswhoarriveupto30minuteslatewillbepermittedtotaketheexamination.Nocompensatory
time will be allowed for latecomers.
(4)Studentsarenotallowedtoleavetheexaminationvenueinthefirst45minutesandlast15minutesofthe
examination, except in cases of illness or emergency. Students who wish to leave the examination venue
early should raise their hands to obtain permission from the invigilator of the School before leaving.
(5)Pleasereadthroughthe“MacaoPolytechnicInstituteExaminationRegulationsforStudents”beforeexami-
nation.
Study Time and Attendance SystemStudy TimeThenumberofyearsstudentsstudyinMPIcontinuouslyorintermittentlyshouldbeequaltothenormal
numberofacademicyearsplus50%.Lessthanoneacademicyeariscountedasoneacademicyear.Forworking
students,thestudytimeequalsthetotalnumberofacademicyearsplus100%.Studentswhoareconfirmedto
be unable to complete the relevant courses by the end of the academic year will lose their status. In accordance
with the study time regulations, students who lose their status cannot enrol and register for MPI programmes
for three years starting from the year of loss of status. For further details please refer to Article 6 of the Aca-
demic Regulations.

GradesTheannouncingofresults(includingresultsofsupplementaryexaminations)willbeinaccordancewiththe
current academic calendar and Registry’s announcement. Students can enquire about their academic reports
throughtheStudentInformationWeb(SIWeb).Incaseofanyobjectiontotheresults,studentsmaylodgean
appealwiththeRegistrywithinthreeworkingdays(finalexamination)andtwoworkingdays(supplementary
examinations) following the announcement.
Re-checking Results and Appeal on ResultsStudentshavetherighttore-checktheirresultswithinthespecifiedtimeaftertheannouncementof
examinations(includingsupplementaryexaminations),bycompletingthe“appealform”andsubmittingit
to the Registry.
General Arrangements for Classes and Examinations during Typhoons and Severe Weather Conditions for Degree Programmes of Macao Polytechnic Institute Please kindly be reminded that all classes and examinations will be held as scheduled, unless tropical storm
warning signal no. 8 or above is hoisted/in force or special announcements to the contrary are made by the
Institute.

2. Severe Weather Conditions(eg. Rainstorm Warning Signal)
a. Under normal circumstances, when rainstorm warning signal is hoisted:
i. All examinations will be held as scheduled, students are required to sit in for examinations according to the
rules and regulations;
ii. All classes will be held as scheduled, for students who are late for or absent from classes will not be
considered as absent;
b.TheInstitutehasthediscretiontosuspendanyclassesorexaminations,arrangementisasfollows:
i. Classes and examinations will continue till the end of that class or examination session;
ii. For any suspension of classes or examinations due to rainstorm warning signal or severe weather
conditions, a special announcement will be made at MPI homepage;
iii. For suspension of examinations, details of postponement will be announced at MPI homepage in 5 working
days when the weather conditions have improved.
iv. For suspension of classes, the academic unit concerned will decide whether to postpone or suspend any
tests, mid-term examinations and other activities/events, etc, according to the above arrangements.

Awrittenreprimand;
Azeromarkfortherelatedcourse,recordedinthestudent’sfile;
TerminationofpartoftheprivilegesoftheoffendingstudentinMPIforaspecifiedperiod
(including subsidy, grant / scholarship provided by MPI);
Disqualificationfromsittingforthesupplementaryexaminationfortherelated
course of that academic year;
FirstoffendersshallbesuspendedfromstudyinginMPIforaperiodofoneyear.Theperiodofsuspension
is not included in the duration of study and starts from the semester following the case;
Serious(suchaspremeditated,conspiratorialand/ororganized)orrepeatedoffendersshallbe

Regulations Governing Hostel ManagementTheestablishmentoftheseregulationsistogovernthemanagementofhostels,soastomaintainasuitable
livingandstudyingenvironment.Theregulationsarealsoaimedatensuringhostelstudents’safetyand
enhancingtheirindependence.Hostelstudentsareresponsibleforfamiliarizingthemselveswiththe
regulationsandcomplyingwiththem.Shouldstudentsviolateanyoftheseregulations,awrittenreprimand
will be issued to the students concerned, with a copy sent to their parents or guardians. Students’ violations
willberecordedintheirpersonalfiles.Thosewhoviolatetheregulationswillbeliableforalllossesincurred.
Inordertomoreeffectivelyimplementhostelmanagement,ademeritpointsystemwillbecarriedoutinevery

For those whose deduction amounts to ten points before the end of the school year, their application for
next school year’s dormitory places will be placed on the waiting list and MPI retains the right to order the

Regulation on SmokingPursuanttoLaw5/2011of“PreventionandControlofSmokingSystem”,smokingisnotallowedinallhigher
educationinstitutionsandvocationaltrainingcentres.Smokinginsuchplacesisanoffence.Withtheexception
ofdesignatedsmokingareas,smokinghasnotbeenallowedanywhereelseoncampussince1January,2012.
