The European Mediterranean migration model: what is that?
The model is studied on the basis of a transnational approach comparing data and experiences of 4 UE Mediterranean Countries: Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain;
Commun cultural and socio-economic features and commun experiences of migrations governance such as:
Shift from sending countries to hosting countries; late industrial development; economies based on SME and agricolture; weakness of welfare state/role of families in care services; diffusion of the grey market and large use of regolarizations mechanisms for migrants
The European Mediterranean migration model: some considerations
Restricted entrance policies and massive security control systems at the EU borders → illegal status and social exclusion of migrants;
Link between the grey market and migration flows towards EU M.C.→ fostering of social exclusion and deepening the gap between new and old EU migration Countries.
