USING STAINLESS STEEL AT HIGHTEMPERATURESThe resistance to oxidation of stainless steeldepends largely on the chromium content. Twoother alloying elements, nickel and silicon, canalso be instrumental in enhancing the oxidationresistance of the steels. Nickel in the alloyminimises oxide spalling. Silicon increasesoxidation resistance by improving thecompaction of the scale formed and therebyallows the steel to be used at higher operatingtemperatures. Corrosion in air or steam occursrelatively slowly due to the formation of acompact adherent chromium oxide based scale.

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONRefractory fixings are available in a range ofstainless steels and higher alloys:

Grade 1.4301 (304) (18/8)The most widely used stainless steel gradecontaining typically 18% Chromium and 8%Nickel as the main alloying elements. Thisgrade has excellent welding properties and iseasily formed and fabricated.

Grade 310A heat resisting steel that combines excellentresistance to both corrosion and oxidation atelevated temperatures. It is resistant tomoderate thermal shock and shows highstrength at high temperatures.

Inconel Alloy 601Inconel 601 has an outstanding resistance tocorrosion and to high temperature oxidation. Thematerial also has good resistance to aqueouscorrosion and high mechanical strength.

Other GradesRefractory fixings can be supplied in othergrades on request, including Stainless Steelgrade 1.4401 (316). Please contact Ancon formore details.

MATERIALSAncon manufactures refractory anchors andfibre fixing systems to exacting tolerances in awide range of stainless steel and higher alloys.Standard fixings are available in stainless steelgrade 1.4301 (304) and grade 1.4845 (310),and Inconel 601. Other grades of stainlesssteel, mild steels and alloys are available to suitrequirements, including Stainless Steel grade1.4401 (316).

STAINLESS STEEL ATELEVATED TEMPERATURESStandard Stainless Steels provide corrosionresistance in a number of aggressive situations. They also provide very good oxidation andscaling resistance at elevated temperatures.

In situations where standard steels reach theirtemperature limits, higher alloy and speciallydesigned stainless steels provide a combinationof increased strength and oxidation resistance, extending the useful working range up tohigher temperatures around 1200˚C.

REFRACTORY ANCHOR SYSTEMSAncon manufactures a wide range of refractoryanchor fixings to suit any particular applicationfor retaining castable and brick installations.

    • Refractory Anchors• Refractory Brick Fixings• Special Fixings and Special FabricationsManufactured from round bar or plate section, the anchors are available in a number ofstandard shapes. They are fixed with a threador a weld, and can be supplied with a weldfoot. The fixings are available in the full rangeof stainless steels and alloys, and can bemade to suit any depth of lining.

CAST-IN ANCHORS‘Y’ AnchorsThese anchors are manufactured from 5-12mmdiameter bar or from plate section. ‘Y’ anchorsmade from round bar can be supplied open toany angle, with a plain end, weld leg or thread. The tips can be fitted with plastic caps toenable expansion of the tips at temperature. ‘Y’ anchors from plate section can be suppliedopen to any angle, or supplied closed forinstallation of pre-drilled fibreboard or otherinitial layers prior to opening on site. Anchorscan also be supplied pre-welded to a mild steelbase plate for ease of installation on site.

‘V’ AnchorsManufactured from bar diameter 5-12mm. Theanchor legs can be supplied to individualrequirements with odd lengths, with bends orcrimps, and with plastic end caps.

Crook AnchorsCrook anchors are manufactured from 5-12mmdiameter bar. The crook is available with a spanof 75mm, 100mm or 125mm. Crook anchorscan be supplied with a plain end, weld leg, thread or bent to fit a pre-welded cleat.
