ReflectionsReflections

Dear Members of the Unicent Community,

Your children are not your children; They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you, For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

The words of Khalil Gibran are so powerful in emphasizing the role of tomorrow and the uniqueness of children. Every endeavor of ours is to ensure that we put all our efforts towards nurturing that uniqueness in every child. The journey is long and arduous for parents and teachers, nevertheless we want to see our children excelling in their fields of choice and leading a fulfilling life. That is what Unicent strives for every day.

The school has been off to a great start and we have been excited about all the happenings in the first term. Through the year ll now we have updated you on our progress towards our school goals. As always we ask for your support in achieving the following goals. Parent Partnerships‐We view parents as an integral part of the educaonal process and value your inputs and suggesons. As the relaonship between the home and the school grows, so does the students' achievement.

Early Literacy‐Our goal is to have each student reading fluently by grade 3 hence we are focusing on foundaonal skills to read, understand and respond to a variety of texts.

Universal Expectaon of Behaviour‐whether in the hallway, classroom, bathroom or bus, each student is aware of the expected behavior and every staff member enforces those regulaons.

The six pillars of Unicenan Values‐ETHICS‐Empathy for caring and healing, Teamwork to stay together, Humility in word and deed, Integrity to do the right thing even when nobody is watching, Courage to stand up for the right cause, Self –Discipline to put principles into pracce as an everyday habit.

High Expectaons from Students‐ We believe all children have a high level of achievement. All our teachers work diligently to ensure that learning is engaging for students and differenated to meet the needs of all our students.

Some of the milestones that we have reached this year were to, start with class magazines, improve the levels of achievements in Math, make sports curriculum more systemac and have an online soluon to view the regular progress of students.

I am sure you will enjoy reading this newsleer as much as we had fun in pung it together. Wishing you the best towards meeng your challenges.

May God keep you all well.

Climate change ‐ “Be the change you want to see in the world.”Recently, on 7th October 2015 students of Unicent School, Nagole went to a workshop on climate change. It was conducted at Madhapur, Chinmayee art gallery. The workshop was about the influence of human acvies on climate. The rate of the carbon emission produced by the world per year is 400 gigatons. We as students need to spread awareness about climate change. It is esmated that by 2066 the carbon emissions will be so high that the people of earth would need another planet to survive. India produces about 0.65% of the total global carbon emissions. But now it produces 1.3%, twice the amount. We as students need to take steps in reducing carbon emissions, like travelling in public transport or walking or cycling to nearer places. It is because of human acvies that India is experiencing super cyclones. So folks be ready to get your hands dirty, to save our environment.

They had also shown us the skeleton of a dinosaur which was really big and awesome. There were some fossil fuels and a big dinosaur egg. We also saw the collecon of soils and rocks from many states of India. It was an excing trip.
