REFLECTION OF MACRO TEACHING As in Task C, we are assigned to be in groups of three, and my group members who are Nurul Hayani and Christillah Jutaim had work together with full commitments and cooperations. In lecture hours with Madam Noormah for ELE 3034 E which is English Language Teaching Methodology For Young Learners.We constructed a lesson plan and presented it to Madam in front of the whole class. As it was the first lesson plan created by us, we received tons of comments and suggestions to improve our group’s lesson plan. I am thankful for the feedbacks because I know that I need a lot of improvement.However, after everyone in my group had settled doing their individual lesson plan, three of us met and presented our own lesson plan individually. We discussed and considered a lot of aspects and elements in choosing the lesson plan to be presented in macro-teaching and finally all of us unanimously chose to take my lesson plan to be implemented in the next task C which is the macro teaching process. We discussed once again and made some improvements on the lesson plan and met madam Noormah for the checking. After the first meeting, we corrected some of the lesson plans into more reliable and practical. We then met for the last time before presenting the lesson plan in class. Even in the final meeting, we had to alter the lesson plan again to be the best. However, we felt relieved as madam gave many positive inputs and comments

REFLECTION OF MACRO TEACHING

English Language Teaching Methodology For Young Learners.We constructed a lesson

plan and presented it to Madam in front of the whole class. As it was the first lesson

group’s lesson plan. I am thankful for the feedbacks because I know that I need a lot of

improvement.However, after everyone in my group had settled doing their individual

plan. Madam explained very well about the learning outcomes because the lesson that

we had done got some mistakes about leaning outcomes. Learning outsomes must be

apporiate with the task that we constructed.

Task C is where we need to implement the lesson plan in our class. We used

standard three theme’s which is World of Knowledge and the topic was ‘Healthy and

unhealthy food’. Our focus skill is listening and speaking. During 1st April 2015, I was

the first to start with set induction and continued my part in the stage of while-listening. I

started the lesson with relia to gain their attention. I bring apples and junk food.Iask

them question and makes them to talk.They managed to respond to my teaching aids

and I told them that they were going to learn about healthy food throughout the day. And

they are really excited when I bring the real food. I asked them and makes them to talk.

The most effective ways to present set induction by using teaching aids, related

situation with the lesson, motivation, questioning technique, revision of related topic and

much more (Mohd Hafiz bin Saad, 2010).

Then, I started the pre listening stage by showing the big picture regarding effect

of healthy food and junk food.I added an interesting picture to student so that they

interested with the lesson. In this phase, teacher usually stimulates interest in the topic

of the text so that pupils do not come to the text ‘cold’ (Nesamalar Chitravelu, Saratha

Sithamparan, Teh Soo Choon, 1995 in their book; ELT Methodology Principles and

Practice). They also stated that in this stage, teachers should try to rouse the students’

interest in what they are about to listen, as well as making the students actively aware

of information/experience that would be useful in helping them understand what they will

hear. Thus, choosing an interesting big picture to be shown to them was one of the

stimulating ways to integrate their readiness to the next activity; which was listening and

speaking.

Next, Christillah proceeded with the stage while-listening with a video song.. As

mentioned by Nesamalar Chitravelu and friends, this stage is the centre of focus of the

lesson. The activities in this stage contain the teaching points the teacher wishes to deal

with in the lesson. This part may contain just one activity or it may contain a number of

related or stepped activities. Christillah showed a video song entitled good song to them

and she asked them regarding the song that they have heard.After listening to the song,

she guide them to talk and answer the blank space of lyric on the majong paper on

whiteboard.We chose to focus on one activity (group work) where after listening to the

song, Christillah distributed a piece of mahjong paper that consists of lyric of the song

and contain blank space .They need to dicuss among themselves to fill in the blank

space of example of food. Madam Noormah commented that on this stage we should

makes the majong paper that paste on whiteboard more bigger because the one that

we have created not so big for student.

Finally, Hayani got on the post-listening stage which giving them worksheet.

There are three worksheets. One of the worksheet is for individual and the other two is

for grouping. Before giving the worksheet by her, she explained first what they need to

do and instructions given by her is easier to understand for standard three. She also

guide them to answer the questions of worksheet. In grouping work, she divided the

group of five and students need to cooperate to answer the question.After the students

finished to answer, she checked together the answers together with students. She also

rewarded her student who did the excellent job.This is the way how to motivate the

student doing the work.

After finished the macroteaching, madam gives us the feedback. She said that

the activity is good and the way we handle the class. But madam wants us to improve

more our language and grammar when speaking so that we pronounce the correct

language and student will learn from us. I realize that I need to improve more my skill to

speak in English.And madam correct some mistakes in my lesson plan and she advices

that my learning outcomes must be suitable with the activities that I have construct. I

need to be more careful doing the objectives of lesson plan.

Everything went well and all of us were glad to learn many new matters along

this macro teaching process. However, madam asked us to rectify the worksheet for

remedial and enrichment. We had learnt that remedial should be given a worksheet that

is easier, for instance matching worksheet while for enrichment; they may be able to

answer any fill in the blanks questions. I think the improvement for the lesson plan that I

need to do is regarding the pre listening. I need to do interesting activity when I pick the

small picture to ask and paste because some student get bored if im just taking the

picture and paste. Maybe for the next time I can ask student to pick one of the picture

so that they can participate more with the lesson. And for the while listening I think I

need to improve on the activity. The lyrics must be paste on the whiteboard when they

sing the song so that they know how to sing and to make the activity more interesting I

think I need to do the actions while singing. For the activity groups, after they finish

writing the blank space of lyric with their answer, I want to ask them to present in their

own group to sing the song with new lyric that they have created.The worksheet that

have given to student also need to do some activity so that they will not get bored doing

the worksheet. I want them to present their answer so that they able to talk in class and

not just doing the worksheet only.In the closure, improvement that I have think is

showing the slide show or video regarding the healthy and unhealthy to sum up the

lesson. So that they can recall back what they have learnt.

There were too many benefits that my group members and I valued from this

task. We thanked each other as all of us have given best commitments. Madam

Noormah also has been a very good, patient and supportive lecturer who never gives

up on us.
