Earn more conference discounts by sharing the benefits and rewards of Academy membership with your peers!

Here’s how it works: You share the good news of the Academy with another dentist or specialist. He or she joins the Academy as a new dues-paying member, listing you as the referring member, and attends the 2016 annual conference in August. After you attend the conference, your account will be reimbursed $100 for each dentist you have referred who is brand new to the Academy and attended the conference.

We all have positive things in our lives that have created great memories and experiences for us, and we share these things with the people we care about. Why not take a minute and share your experiences of the Academy and conference? Let your friends and colleagues know what the Academy can do for them so they can enjoy the blessings and benefits of Academy membership too. It’s the best reason of all to refer a friend!

I invite each of you to be dues-paying members of the Academy and join us for our conference on August 12 and 13. Your dues bless the lives of so many of our Heavenly Father’s children around the world and right here at home.

Gordon Christensen will again have the best speakers in the world to provide us with the latest and most exciting continuing education available. We will all be inspired and rejuvenated. Great programs await our spouses and children as well. We can all look forward to another wonderful fireside banquet at the newly remodeled Provo Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

I am excited to rub shoulders with all of you as we learn together and renew our friendships. Bring your family and friends, and be a part of the 2016 Academy conference!

An Invitation from Our President

Lindsay HancockImproving Patients’ Health through Nutrition EducationDue to frequent patient contact, health screening capabilities, and position of authority, those in the dental profession are often the most equipped to educate your patients on dietary problems, nutritional deficiencies, and opportunities for dietetic improvement.

This presentation will help you understand how closely nutrition, oral hygiene, and overall health are connected, and what you can do to help your patients make smarter nutritional choices. We will discuss how to use your time with patients to discuss nutri-tional concerns and provide you with simple solutions to help improve your patients’ oral hygiene and overall health.

Education and Background:Lindsay attended Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado, where she studied culinary arts (AS), bak-ing and pastry arts (AS), and nutrition (BS). Her passion for culinary nutrition led her to work as a product development chef, where she consulted for global food and beverage companies, weight management corpora-tions, sports nutrition companies, and the National School Lunch Program Board for more than five years.

Lindsay furthered her culinary and nutrition education by taking continuing education courses in more than five countries. For nearly three years she taught nutrition, meal preparation, and food budgeting courses to low-income families through her volunteer work with Share Our Strength. While pursuing her career in the food and beverage industry, Lindsay returned to her alma mater to teach both culinary and nutrition courses.

Dr. Adams is a member of the ADA, AGD, AACD, SCAD, ASDA, NADL, and a fellow in the ICD.

An All-Ceramic Dilemma (morning)With the recent introduction of incredible new all-ceramic materials, there has never been a better opportunity for clinicians to be placing more minimally invasive restorations. However, is this the current reality? We will take a brief look at a representative sampling of cases examined in North American dental laboratories, and then offer some clinical solutions.

Trends, Innovations, Controversies, and Clinical Tips (afternoon)From his unique perspectives as editor-in-chief of one of North America’s leading clinical news magazines, and from much experience working with the dental laboratory industry, Dr. Adams will be discussing a variety of trends, controversies, and clinical tips related to the latest lab-fabricated all-ceramic dental materials.

The Age of Zirconia in Dentistry Is NOW! (morning)Do you know all you would like to know about zirconia for your patients—or do you wonder about questions such as:

1. How do the new translucent zirconias differ from the original BruxZir?2. How do the different brands of translucent zirconia differ from each other?3. Why is it best not to fire veneer ceramic over zirconia?4. When used as a substructure, how does zirconia compare to metals?

From results of large, controlled clinical trials, learn answers to these and other pertinent questions regarding zirconia—the material that now dominates dentistry!

Monolithic Crowns—Where Are We Now? (afternoon)In 2016 dentists can choose from a wide variety of monolithic crown materials ranging from zirconi-as (both less and more translucent), to lithium disilicate, several polymer “ceramics,” and interest-ing combinations of zirconia mixed with lithium silicate. Each material has indications and contra-indications clinicians need to know. The differences and similarities will be enumerated, along with the clinical performance of each in large, controlled, clinical trials conducted by TRAC Research.

What Do Diet and Nutrition Have to Do with Dentistry? (morning)As dental professionals, we are in a unique position to provide our patients with the highest degree of preventive health care. The dental visit isn’t just about the mouth—it’s about the whole patient! By apply-ing the basic principles of cariology with ongoing research and emerg-ing information on diet and nutrition as it relates to oral and systemic health, we can confidently provide comprehensive care for our patients.

Sugar and Sugar Alternatives: The Bittersweet Truth (afternoon)Consumption of too much sugar is linked not only to tooth decay, but to heart disease, diabetes, and other systemic conditions. Alternatives help us cut sugar, but do they provide benefit or added risks? This course will provide an overview of sweeteners on the market, current evidence about sugar and sugar alternative intake, and the practical application to dentistry and whole body health.

accredited cosmetic dentists in the worldwide American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).

Practical and Predictable Posterior Composite Restorations: Minimizing Sensitivity and Maximizing Esthetics (morning) Have you recently updated your direct composite restoration skills? Learn how to prevent postoperative sensitivity on posterior direct resto-rations and how to assure a solid contact on interproximal restorations. What class of composite materials is appropriate for posterior restora-tions versus anterior restorations?

Practical and Predictable Anterior Composite Restorations: Seamless and Undetectable in the Esthetic Zone (afternoon) When placing anterior direct composites, is material or technique more important? Learn various layering techniques and how tints and opa-quers can aid with mimicking natural tooth structure. Discussion will include additive techniques that rival porcelain in color and polishing.

Making Money Is Killing Your Practice (morning)Get off the treadmill, make more money in less time, and get back to the passion that brought you into dentistry in the first place. Use your practice to build your ideal lifestyle, not just an income.

Join us and get these questions answered: What does a successful business look like? How do I get there? Where do I start? How do I turn my passion into a real business that works for ME?

Why Managing Your Practice Costs You Time and Money (afternoon)Management is a treadmill; leadership is the way off. Practice owners and key staff who act like managers don’t get off the treadmill.

This workshop will be a practical parade of principles and tools:

• Leader’s mindset vs. manager’s mindset, and how the difference will change your practice

• Your specific and unique decision-making profile and how it affects everything you do

• Practical tools to become a leader and grow a practice that requires less management

• How to play the Business Owner’s Game • How to be more free to do the things you love in your practice
